  • A friend of the channel messaged last year to see if I'd be interested in some long distance birds after hearing I was aiming to one day enter the King's Cup - Lerwick. Now it's time to visit the Callaghan's loft in Cambridge and take a look at some of the birds that can trace their bloodlines back to the long distance greats of the last 100 years, including Bricoux, Westrop, Southwell and Janssen.

    That's my Dad ❤ I started off on my own when I was 18, in 1987, and then Dad joined me in 1989, and we never looked back.
    We started racing on the North Road flying down into Cambridge. After a few years we went south to try our hand at the Nationals. We have yet to win one, but we have won our section several times and our best Open position is 6th.
    Our pigeon "Reliable" was the Ace pigeon for our NFC section last year, Dan has the first young birds bred from him this year. We sincerely hope they help Dan establish a long distance team.

    Well Dan im delighted that the day finally came, that you took john callaghan and his father noel up on there very kind offer. Give them plenty of time, and please god they will repay youre patients, and the callaghans kindness. I don't tink that dark cheq will moult out into a black or sut as we used to call them, but time will tell. The 2 silver mealys or Ash's will be interesting to see how they moult out. John youre Dad Noel is a gas man, and he didn't entirely loose his irish accent, and Dan really fu€£$d up declining the offer of food from a woman who knows how to keep an irish man happy trough his stomach 😂😂😊😊. Dan i wish you all the best with these babys. And i also wish the callaghan's all the best for the future , 2 absolute gentleman of the sport❤

    • @johncallaghan8854
      @johncallaghan8854 Месяц назад

      I don't agree, you still have the genes of your great grandfather and his great grandfather.
      The base of the Jan Arden family is still their in our birds, my Dad's not claiming that they're pure Jan Arden's, but the base family is definitely still within the genes.

    • @youriverstraete4986
      @youriverstraete4986 Месяц назад

      @@johncallaghan8854 nope, I share not even 15% of my genes with my great grandfather. We are talking about pigeons who lived 60 years ago and earlier. How many generations are there between now and then? How many "pollution" of genes? There is no Jan Aarden strain anymore. That is just a fact.

    • @johncallaghan8854
      @johncallaghan8854 Месяц назад +1

      @@youriverstraete4986 pigeons have always been known by their base strain, and in Europe especially, by the name of the fancier who created the original family.
      As George Busschaert said, as soon as any pigeon comes into my loft it is a Busschaert.
      I'm not arguing semantics with you.
      We have had the Jan Arden strain in our loft for almost 40 years.
      My Dad is not claiming they are pure Jan Arden, but there is Jan Arden blood in that pigeon and in many more in our team.

    • @youriverstraete4986
      @youriverstraete4986 Месяц назад

      @@johncallaghan8854 so you telling me a white pigeon from another loft, that has no genetics attached to tho original strain, can be a Jan Aarden? And you are the first to bring up genetics, soooo... .
      The Jan Aarden part is really not a base anymore, maybe not even 1% of the genetics.
      It's just a name they are using to sell pigeons for bigger numbers (all over the world).
      That said, using the name of an excisting loft is not the same as using the name of a person that has no saying in breeding his kind of birds.
