Although Ungodly Hour was critically acclaimed, I think it’s strange how people act like Ungodly Hour was this HUGE breakthrough and commercial success for the girls when in reality, although it achieved more buzz than their previous work, ultimately, it was a commercial failure. I have a feeling their next album as a duo will be a commercial hit though.
This! I’m still introducing songs to ppl. Like the fact I Wonder What She Thinks Of Me should’ve been a single and should be everywhere as the new classic ballad
@@missyd1215 she is, but she’s relying on a already tried image. And loud come and go music. She’s not taking her time and just releasing what she thinks can get her a quick top 5. That’s what is messing her up.
I’m here for Chloe doing whatever she wants I feel the treatment she received was a turning point for me on how alot of black people especially black women truly suffer from internalized self hatred and believe that we should respect ourselves in order to be respected by society and it’s really a sick mindset bc no matter how respectable a black woman is she is still made to be inferior to every other woman.
I agree! And I’m going to be honest I was judgemental of her at first, and the more comfortable ive become w myself, the less I’ve been worried about others. Like if she’s cool with it who are we to care? We’re just reinforcing that that behavior gets the most attention, positive or negative
@@precious1918 what do you expect? Y'all keep on blaming HER but you should be blaming the INDUSTRY. The industry sexualizes women and if they aren't, then they fade to the background. We have to first tackle the root of the issue.
Chloe is going through that same transition we watched Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera go through in the early 2000s with the added dynamic of Chloe being a Black woman. When you've been seen as a wholesome teen girl singer, but suddenly want to act more adult or sexy, the whole world flips out.
Exactly! Miley got these treatment too, but like you said it didn’t have the layer of race mixed in. It will be interesting to see if Chloe is “welcomed back” if she ever tones her image down a bit like with Miley
Britney felt natural in my opinion. Not trying hard. It was from within just like Janet Jackson. The way she was dancing gurl was clearly feeling her féminine energy. I was shocked when I discovered she was only 19teen in Slave. Chloé is still young so her sexuality still developping. When she will feeling this from within gurl gonna break rules!
Yes yes yes. Yes. As much of everyone says Britney isn’t talented. She was a natural performer and Dancer. She didn’t have to shake ass or jiggle her tits. It was just her fit body and real choreography
I don’t think the transition is the same at all. If you’ve kept up with Chloe and Halle, they’ve properly slowly matured into who they want to project themselves now. I don’t feel like Chloe is doing too much, but just showcasing her talent and energy the way she’s always wanted to, while still being respectful of the duo group with her sister and as Halle is figuring out her public image. There was a Grownish episode acknowledging this growth and I think they’ve done a great job maturing compared to Disney stars
One thing I always think but don't see enough people say is that I love genuine authentic expressions of female sexuality, but I personally get really turned off and cringed out when it feels fake, forced, pandering to the male gaze, or just inauthentic. I am fully behind women being really openly sensual in their music but what I don't enjoy is the sudden and forced commodification of our bodies and our sexual energy.
I just miss when most black singers and rappers would sing or rap about love/romance without being so vulgar and oversexualized. Young black girls deserve to have singers like dua and olivia too which is what drew me to CXH when i discovered them during ungodly hour era. This is why i'm thankful for FLO right now and i hope they rise to the top. Although i don't like the direction Chloe has gone in she still deserves respect and the way the black community especially is tearing this woman down right now has just gone past the point of "critiques" or just not liking her music.
For anyone who thinks she's fake or "forced" ... she's always been like this. she's always been "doing too much", even when she was maing covers with halle. back then, people told her to go solo because she was so extra, and now when she went solo, she's doing too much? idk, it doesn't make sense.
Yes! I usually just tell others to go back to their old videos and it explains itself 😩😂😂 Chloe has always been extra and as a fan I loved it because it showed their differences
I’ve been a fan of Chloe and Halle since their first album dropped, and I have to admit that when Chloe started to venture out on her own I was conflicted. The entire reason why I loved them, and their music, was because they weren’t doing what other artists were. They weren’t selling sex or vulgar music. They made music that felt like it’s own genre, and I LOVED it because I felt seen. I’ve never been comfortable with showing my body or bragging about what I do with it, that’s just my choice. This is why I felt, I guess, a little disappointed that Chloe decided to go down her own path. But even though I may not personally relate to what she’s doing, or the music she makes, I respected her decisions. I think this is what people should be doing. Respecting her decisions. She is her own person, and even if we disagree, I think as fans we need to remain respectful!
I’m not surprised that Chloe stage presence maybe different from her personality that’s literally what us creative introverts are, we are quiet, shy and always tip towing on what we say/do but we let out creative output (rather it’s poetry, creative writing, music, performing, acting) express our true inner-thoughts I express that many times people didn’t know how politically conscious and provocative bc of how shy I was until they read my writing or I talked to them about my interests in controversial topics like intersectional feminism, colorism, ethnocentrism, social class hierarchy, xenophobia, stereotypes, postmodernism and consumerism or when I did musical theatre/acting class and how I was able play characters that were polish opposite of who I was and it’s bc me being a quiet shy kid I always observed and studied how different people were
Yessss you def are the observant insightful type!! I love your comments. I truly think for Chloe her performance is an outlet because she seems extremely reserved in real life. And who are we to mock her finding a place where she has the confidence and is feeling herself
@@naomi.cannibal right Chloe and hallie dynamic does remind me a lot of Beyoncé and solange the older sister who’s more shy, quiet and more introverted who has a powerful and more in your face persona/performing style while the younger sister is seen as the shy one but is more outspoken, more fearless and more anti-mainstream
Yes!! Creative Introvert, is the perfect way to encapsulate this. And to respond to the user that said “you have to understand some people may find that inauthentic then,” no, not really. People have a huge misconception about introverts and their abilities and creative fields as a whole. You would be surprised how many famous writers, orators, public figures, leaders, artists, actors, musicians, storytellers, etc, were and are actually introverts and it’s on account of the introvert’s unique way of interacting with and understanding the world. I find that most often the people who have a hard time understanding how that can be and/or have a hard time acknowledging the unique expression that comes from that way of interacting with the world, tend to be those with more extroverted personalities who have a hard time not seeing people with more introverted personalities as less than. But I can tell you, it’s not so surprising as people flourish in the arenas of their purpose. Irregardless of how introverted or extroverted they are.
@@Blahgirl283 Wrong. I’m actually an introvert myself. I also never said couldn’t be successful so you mentioning famous introverts is irrelevant. I said that it’s understandable for people to see Chloe as inauthentic if she’s one way in her personal interviews and a completely different person in her music. It’s understandable for people to see that as fake or not her real self. Y’all might not like it, but it IS understandable. People like folks who are real. They like people who aren’t afraid to be their authentic selves at all times. Maybe Chloe is too scared to do that or maybe she’s living out her dream of being this “bad bitch” persona that she feels she can’t be in real life, but either way, people aren’t buying it. She needs to go back to the drawing board.
That lollipop video WAS too much...it was a video to check in on her fans, which are mostly female. But it was like she was seducing them lol... weird. So that's why it felt awkward and too much. It's like, who is this for, ma'am? We're the wrong audience lol
@@naomi.cannibal exactly lol...felt like I was being sexually harassed lol. Like noooo, ma'am! I know you tryna be sexy, but not AT me, please!! Are you trying to get your fans in your bed ma'am? Lol...
I cannot imagine being a young black woman in front of the public trying to figure out 1. how to differentiate yourself from your sister who has been attached to your hip your whole life and who you have built a brand with and 2. figuring out your own sexuality and relationship to your body, which all women do in their teens and twenties. The pressure must be so immense. I was cringy in my early 20s when it came to sex too. Cannot imagine having that be public and having the extra pressure of being a black woman on top of that.
Guess you never heard of the artist Brittany spears !!!! You think Chloe has it bad you should have saw how everyone dragged Brittany spears ! Christina Aguilera , Avril Lavigne , Diane Sawyer justified a woman wanting to shoot Brittany spears, Jessica Simpson they all hated on her . A comedian made fun of her ruthlessly at the VMAs . The media was absolutely horrible to Brittany .
@@tet7497 uh...ok? We know lol what does that have to do with my comment about a young black woman. It's not a competition. Everyone in the world knows Brittany was exploited horribly. You stans are weirdos.
@@tet7497 you know, we dont have to pit women against each other in any sense. Britney had such different circumstances and yeah, had it worse. But it wasn't due to her race. Where as here, people are putting her down bc "she represents a community" or isnt doing it right, etc. Solely bc shes black. So. Relax.
The issue is black women feeling like we have to derive our power from overt sexuality. Twerking and showing most of your ass isn’t the only way to feel sexy or powerful but it’s shoved down our throats by the masses, so when you see an artist go down the same route it’s disappointing
Idk to me it seems like women love to twerk and feeling sexy. I feel society puts more pressure on women to suppress their sexuality because of how men react to it.
Deffo and I feel like some people deny that chloe is going down that same path and brush it off by saying things like oh other artist do it or Janet Jackson did the same thing but it's like before Janet went into that direction she had to establish herself as a repectable artist through her dance and mostly her music for example she had control, rythm nation, it's just good strategy, right now chloe's music is not that good on top of that add the over excessive twerking and its all a shambles which is a shame because she's super talented I also feel maybe whoever is managing her could be contributing to the problem as well as she's gravitating towards what other artist are starting to sound like today I have a feeling she is trying to compromise to be like them though she says she's expressing who she is, but hopefully this changes
I agree with your statement. It's very disappointing when you continue to see an artist that you think have moral values respecting themselves and then you see them go down to making sex sell its very discouraging. I don't understand why they just can't make classiness sale right along with their talent and then they will eventually have people gravitate to their music. It just like what Whitney houston said that nothings left to the imagination anymore and that's its not about singing.
I just feel like she fell to that “sex sell” narrative in the music industry and hiding behind the statements of “empowered black women”. I still love her though
Well yes there is a narrative that black women in particular, have to be sexy in other for their music to sell, however, some women fit this narrative, while others don't. Deal with it
I agree. (This comment is not necessarily about Chloe Bailey specifically, especially because I see her as a victim of this whole ordeal.) Hypersexuality is not as empowering as people like to claim. Embracing and expressing yourself in a sexual manner is one thing, but this hypersexuality is a completely other thing imo... especially considering that black women have been fetishized for just existing with curves. Definitely love your body, but is this hypersexuality empowering? Some mainstream black women are presenting themselves as the sex subject rather than the sex object... but it's still from a fetishisizing pov. I'm not sure how to fully articulate myself on this manner, but Tee Noir made a great video on this topic, here on youtube. TL;DR - Imo, hypersexuality as a movement among women (especially black women) is not empowering.
1. I feel the problem with Chloe is that many people fall in love with her personality off the stage. She always not only come off as shy and reserved, but it feels like she's a very sweet and adoring personality. So when it comes to her on stage performances, it either catches people off guard or turns potential fans off. 2. There are times I feel like Chloe does come off a bit much, but I think it's just her experimenting with her sexuality and her image. Like the Lollipop video and the "Treat Me video" was a lot. I feel like a lot of people including me don't mind her being sexual, the thing is that it's about having a balance. Like you can be sexy and not try to show too much skin. 3. The music is not really up to par like Ungodly Hour or even The Kids is Alright. Which is understandable because she's going after a poppier sound, but I feel she can work with way better producers that understands her influences and understand the roots of where she comes from, which is Atlanta. I feel Chlöe imo is not fully established yet, she hasn't fully found her sound or her image and that's fine. Not all artists will come on point. Also as a straight dude, I found Chlöe to be very sexy as much as I found her to be very sweet. I just think she needs to find her what truly works for her and public and when she finds that. She'll be set. 🔥👍🏾 I love Chloe, I hope things go so well for her and makes her mark in the industry ♥️
Right! I feel like she has SO much time to find herself. I feel like she’s doing a similar 180 to what Miley did to remove herself from that “kid” image, and then she’ll level out soon. Either way she’s extremely talented so I can’t wait to see what she has in store!
Yes!!! I agree with every word you said. Most people do love Chloe (I know I do 🙌🏽) but you really cannot deny that she does the most sometimes and it does come off as forced. The backlash to me seems like people who want her so badly to succeed and not fall into a hole where the masses only expect her to be overtly sexy
I agree with everything you said! She definitely tries to hard sometimes and I don’t think she fully understand what being sexy is. You don’t have to lick suckers or be all oiled up to be sexy. That kind of stuff only works for ppl that have that sort of personality. Sexiness comes from within and genuinely being unapologetic yourself. Right now she comes off as someone trying to mimick what she thinks sexy looks like. But I know it will eventually come together for her!
I agree with this. You made some really great points! I will say that your first point though, I personally have the opposite view as I find it pretty cool when a performer is able to put on a different persona during performances that is opposite of how they present themselves offstage. It feels more like duality to me. It's probably easier to accept this view, however, when you discover someone through their music and performances first before their offstage content, which was always how I engaged with Chloe and Halle's content.
When ChloexHalle was/is a duo, people were egging Chloe on the become this solo star. There were people who actually wanted both of them to go solo, however the main focus was on Chloe. Chloe is definitely talented and I feel like she isn’t given the credit of being a producer, considering she produced some of the songs on UH. I do feel like the backlash and criticism Chloe is getting is honestly insecurity and projection from both men and women, and it’s even sad that some of that criticism is coming from Black women. I think the problem here to me is that Chloe thinks she has sex appeal, when sex appeal is not synonymous with looks. It’s based off aura and the way one carries themselves. Chloe should be allowed to embrace her sexuality, since Black women are not allowed to embrace that in a world that has constantly dehumanized us from the beginning. Another thing is, I do want Chloe to find her sound and expand on that. I don’t think she needs Halle to make a hit, nor I think she will ever leave Halle (CxH). The singles she’s dropped have felt lukewarm to me. I am anticipated for her debut album though.
Yessss!!! Sexy is aura, not attractiveness!! I think Mark Anthony is a great example of that (no tea no shade). But it’s also like?? Why are we so bothered? Western society is relatively sex positive, but we’re also very bad at shaming others for the choices they make when they’re unapologetic about them
She’s cringy and inauthentic. It doesn’t matter what race you are, the internet will attack if they smell blood in the water. She’s cringe and easy to make fun of. It’s not that deep lol
@@naomi.cannibal I believe that people can be sexy or sensual without showing it.There is nothing wrong with showing that physically but not everyone can do it.
There’s definitely a conversation to be had about the hyper-sexualized box black, female artists are usually placed in in the music industry but there’s also a conversation to be had about black women who don’t fit in that box and the lack of support they receive as a result. Chloe x Halle didn’t start getting attention until their more risqué styling and subject matter on “Ungodly Hour” in 2020, despite releasing music for 7 years up till then, and “Have Mercy” came along and eclipsed that and all their other work of almost a decade as well. On top of that you have amazing artists and vocalists like Jade Novah, Amber Mark, Alex Isley and even more who are not on the hyper-sexualized side yet are paid dust not just by the GP who might not know them but by the same people criticizing women like Chloe who choose to play up to the image unfortunately that is promoted and sells. Hell, even Sza wasn’t popular like that until after her weight loss and her dressing more suggestively/singing about more suggestive topics. Everything is not on the artists. A lot of it is on the public and what they buy/stream/choose to entertain and interact with. And the fact is a lot of the covered up artists people say they want are not being supported. That aside, this was an interesting video and I enjoyed your objective thoughts.
Exactly. People are fake. Cardi B said it best despite people constantly coming for her intelligent - women are going to keep singing about the same sh-t as long as that's what's being supported. Look at how Normani's song Fair (a beautifully written heartbreak song) well, fared. Her own fans were thoroughly unimpressed with her vulnerability.
@@kamigriff me too lol 🤣I've lost count on the amount of times I've watched her performance. it was so good and the transitions were so smooth and clean
She's grown and being herself so let her do her thing. People tend to forget that Chloe is a grown woman who can do whatever she wants especially with her image. Why can people just let her and other people be? I'm still a fan of Chloe and all body positive black women.
Of course she's grown & can do what she wants, but that's not gonna shield her away from criticism of her musical tone shift. It all comes with the territory, sum people don't mind the direction she's going & some don't. She's just gonna have to go wit whatever she feels works for her
I’m glad she is being herself and not letting the mean comments and criticism stop her. Y’all scream “Stop tearing down black women!” while tearing a beautiful young black woman down for loving herself! Continue to love yourself Chloe! People need to learn how to love themselves and then they’ll stop worrying about others that do.
Great video! I feel like folks are trying to make Chloe the face of a long standing conversation. That conversation being the hyper s*xualization of mainstream Black artists. Whether or not it’s empowering or detrimental. Genuine pride in their sensuality, or a ploy by industry heads. Etc, etc. There’s so much focus on this, that one major thing is being forgotten: Chloe is only 23 years old! Your early 20s are some of the most experimental, self reflective times of your life. Folks are legitimately upset, that Chloe is finding herself. Not only as an artist, but as a person! As a woman! That’s difficult enough without an audience of millions. Let her be 🤦🏽♀️
I don't have a problem with Chloe being "sexual", I think that's perfectly normal. I would say that what saddens me a little bit is just that her solo music is just not as good (to me) as the stuff they did together. I understand that she might be going for a poppier sound to hit wider audiences and finally get that hit, but I think even then, there should be room for expression, for her to shine her true light and something a little bit more...authentic. I think the sexuality that she's showing now is just too cliché, too "in your face", as if she had a checklist of the stuff she needed to include in order to get that mainstream appeal. I think it's good to want to express your sexuality but that's the thing, it just doesn't feel like it's hers. Ultimately, I think she needs to find her own brand of sensuality, sexuality, and when she does, it won't look "cringe" the way that it does now. So, I think it's just a matter of time before she finds the formula that appeals to the masses but is still her, be it with the looks, the dance moves (yes, she's a good dancer but at the moment, I feel like the performances aren't really hitting me because there is just something that doesn't fit her...and her execution isn't the problem at all) or the music.
idk Chloe has said numerous times that this is who she is. When I look back at their old videos on RUclips, even back then there were tons of comments about how she was giving too much, seeming too excited, expressing too much. These opinions are not new for Chloe, yet she continues to embrace doing too much. It's kind of funny that fans think they know her better than she could know herself especially given how eloquent and honest she seems to be when she talks about owning who she is.
@@DRdreamer23 Well, if that's who she is then good for her! Mind you, I never thought that she did "too much" before. Just the same way I don't think that she's doing "too much" here, I just feel like there is something that doesn't quite fit. Like I said, it's not about being sexual or not. It's about how she does it. I'm just describing what I see and how I feel about what she produces. At the end of the day, if that's good for her, then she doesn't have to change a thing and whatever we have to say about her choices doesn't undermine her talent for sure.
Great words! Chloe is so talented she is just finding her groove, it would be hard to do that in the public eye. She is going to find it and then blow up! Love Chloe and Halle, hard working ladies!
I feel like Chloe's in a stage where she's trying to find herself personally and musically. So she's doing the thing most young people do from teenage to late 20s, even early 30s which is trying on every hat to see which one fits you LMAO we all did it. Not going to lie though at times I feel she spends more time trying to stand out versus really standing in her presence and who she is naturally. I feel like she's trying to keep up with the raunchiness of a lot of singers and rappers of this generation and it can sometime come off as "trying too hard". because it kind of is🤷🏽♀️. But I know eventually she will find her place in the industry and within herself. I just hope that she doesn't sell herself too short or loose herself in this business, where she'll look back at these moments and regret how she went about her career. But I honestly feel when she gets through this shock phase as most Young new artist do she will find her own and be able to hold it. I do however hate that female artist feel they have to be super sexualized to have their talent recognized that part really saddens me.
The issue is she ACTUALLY talented. She doesn’t have to lean on her being a thick, light skinned jawn. So it’s frustrating to see her trying to give us this overly sexual persona, when we literally don’t need it, or want it from her. We want her vocals and musical talents. Not her twerking. It’s a enough of the girls doing it, that don’t have a choice.
@@robertha8555 I did. But I’m not the assuming that only the untalented over sexualize themselves. I’m saying the ones that do, don’t have a choice. But she does and does not. That’s my opinion and it’s not changing. Chloe seems like she’s trying to rid herself of insecurities by, over sexualizing herself now, maybe hoping it will be come authentic later. That lollipop video was cringe. She needs to find balance. Bc being sexy isn’t the problem. Being fine isn’t the problem.
You talk about what you need like Chloe is your personal entertainer or something. Maybe you don't need the music she's putting out, but I need it and that's the music she need to make because it is what she wanted. Not everything is about what you need
but if you think about it, all the women who do shit like that ARE talented too. Doja, Beyonce, lizzo, niki minaj are insanely good at what they do yet… they are sexualizing themselves because they know THATS what sells
some of y’all gotta remember it’s her body her choice what she wants to do with it, some of y’all won’t like it n that’s okay and the other of us will, so if y’all think she’s doing tm scroll n move on
Those that don’t understand Chloe “doing too much” onstage, just don’t understand the love of performing. She feels most confident and love of herself onstage, so that is what’s coming out. It’s not as much sexual as it is a love of her own body, her talent, and the comfort ability she feels while performing.
Great work as always! I still think a lot of Chloe’s moments can be cringey and too much like licking the mic, the lollipop cam girl thing, and so on, BUT I’ve learned to accept that is the route she’s willing to take. She wants to be a pop star and that’s clearly getting the pop girl attention in comparison to the CxH days, so I can’t be mad at her. Also, she’s still figuring herself out and this is her debut so things can evolve. Yes, her songs aren’t as creative like her CxH material, but it’s not awful. We all know she is capable of better and you can write abt sex and make clever songs like Bootylicious or Too Deep, but imma let her do her simple pop songs and see where it takes her cus that’s her path rn lol
completely agree! I’m trying to get out of the idea that just bc it’s something I wouldn’t do, that doesn’t mean I have to judge someone else by my own standards. And regardless, she’s seen success, so we need to let miss maam be. And honestly, once she finds her comfort zone, this might not even be something she’s doing anymore. And if it is??? Life goes on. I’m just like… it’s sad that a lot of people weren’t even checking for her before she started doing all of this, so I understand the position she’s in too
It's hard growing up in the industry and people are pulling you in every direction. She's young and trying to come into her own truth while having to deal with social media and continue to be relevant. As they say, "If your not talked about, your nothing/nobody." Whether good or bad. The opposite of "keep my name out of your mouth." I'm older and don't do social media, but I understand the criticism that entertainers get. It's messed up growing up in the public eye and everything you do is judged, unfortunately, that's the industry they thrive on.
I find the logic that "well, men have objectified women since forever so I'm gonna sexualize and objectify myself!" to be ridiculous. At the end of the day, men (producers, labels, etc.) still make the most money out of that sexualization and that changes nothing about the power dynamic men have in our society. No man is intimidated by Chloe's twerking. Lil Nas X shakes things more by sexualizing and objectifying men and letting women be fully dressed. That changes the status quo and highlights men's hypocrisy. But that's Chloe's life and she can do what she wants. I wish her all the best.
THIS. So true. The word “empowerment” is so overused and overabused in our modern society, especially the music industry. There are SO many ways to be empowered that doesn’t deal with sex or sexuality or the performativeness of either/both. There are SO many ways to be sexy too in ways that don’t have to be crass or in your face.
There's a difference between sexualization and objectification. Just because someone is sexy or "too" sexy doesn't mean they should be treated like an object, if you think otherwise, that's a problem with you not the individual you're objectifying. But I do agree that you can be sexy without showing too much skin.
@@avacadocap9591 "if you think otherwise, that's a problem with you not the individual you're objectifying". I think that this is a naive at best and hypocritical at worst way of thinking about women's oversexualization in the media. None of these choices are made in a vacuum. We are absolutely influenced by men and our entourage, that's a sad reality. So there is a reason why women's "empowerment" and "freedom" in the male-dominated music industry looks more and more like porn, another male dominated-industry that objectifies women. Sick of "sex-positive feminism". It used to have value and legit good points, but now 98% of the time, it does absolutely nothing for women who aren't conventionally beautiful and men are still the ones who profit from it. It's objectifying. And yet, we're supposed to applaud it or else WE're the problem. Lol...
I absolutely love Chloe and her sister. Chloe is experimenting with her sexuality just like every young woman has done. The difference is that every woman didn't have an audience like Chloe has watching her ever move and being judged for it. Chloe is allowed to grow and make her mistakes and learn from them just anyone else. People need to stop being so critical of other people and look at their own past. Look at their parents or grandparents past before judging someone life. Chloe is young, beautiful, talented, intelligent and a triple threat of an entertainer. Chloe may not be for you but she is to others. She might be too much sometimes for some people but stop the hate because you're not on her level, good or bad
Exactlyyy. She is so talented and I'm just happy to see her exploring her persona. "Too much" for me could be "just enough" for the right person - again, it's certainly not an issue of talent or ability cause she stays killing it.
Personally I love Chloe and her extra and unique approach to music and stages This may be a me thing but I feel like people only want a conventional way of art and not art that breaks boundaries That’s why artist like Fka twigs and Chloe bailey aren’t appreciated enough for their creativity
As beautiful and talented as she is, she really is an Awkward but Unique personality, her doing the street/superficial sexual stuff, doesn’t really fit her. But all the best of success to her. She is definitely drop dead gorgeous.
Lord have Mercy, Treat me, and Surprise, are all bops. Why can't ppl let this grown woman finding love in herself express that how she wants? As long as she's not breaking any laws or hurting others let her dance sexy, some ppl need a grip and a life.
To the Cardi IG live clip--it's really sad that Black women (especially female rappers) can't be diverse with their content like they did back in the 90s and early 00s. There was definitely a shift in the industry when it came to Black female representing in music and it was not for the better
The reason why female rappers back then could be diverse is because they had talent and real lyrical prowess to back up their femininity. These females now only rely on T&A to sell records.
In my opinion, Chloe started sexualizing herself after getting attention from her drop-it video. No one was checking for her unless you were fans of her. She ran with it and took it maybe a bit too far. I can't speak for everyone but the majority of people, whom Chloe fans call "haters", only disagree with it because the over-sexualized black singer, dancer, entertainer, etc is getting old. I for one thought she was going to take a different route with her solo career and give us something new. I really liked the song have mercy it was fun, upbeat, and tweakable but back to back, I don't want a whole album of sexy twerk songs.
Chloe has amazing vocals but sometimes she does too much. She did a cover of Adele easy on me and it appears as if she's trying to "seduce" the audience but it's a break-up song 😂
She just needs to sing 😩 lol she’s so talented vocally. Like my god, she’s talented. She needs to be known for her talent. Also, this is the music industry. Regardless of what she wants to express, the industry has partial control over her. Her management, team, etc. When you are under a contract, they push what sells! Whitney Houston wasn’t this glamour diva people made her to be ( based on interviews.) management will push what sells
what’s happening with chloe and halle is something that happens in desi culture all the time. ik these sisters-one of them has a body like chloe and the other like halle. and the sister who had a body like chloe wouldn’t be able to wear a simple tshirt without being stared at by older men, and without hearing older women telling her to cover up. meanwhile the skinnier sister could wear the same tshirt and no one would say anything bciz her body wasn’t as sexualized. and the second the girl who was like chloe started being confident, sexualizing her the way everyone was, everyone had an issue. like pls, choose one. why do u want to sexualize her and then have an issue with it? anyways that’s just my take lol
I will also say this alot of people only pretend to care about Chloexhalle music true fans care though, most people bring it up because they don't like the music Chloe is putting out, in my opinion ungodly hour is not their best work it's just more commercially friendly their first two mixtapes are masterpieces but most people don't know that because they only focus on ungodly hour, they have always been experimental especially Chloe, she has always rapped and sung but as I said most people don't know anything about these two young ladies besides do it , mentally I hope Chloe is fine because if this young lady breathes folks will be writing think pieces
The thing is people that see her as this artists who carries herself as a quiet and sweet girl and want to expect that with her image and music but shame her when her image and music is the total opposite.People should accept that Chloe is a grown woman who can be shy offstage yet confident onstage.Although I do think you can be sexy without having to be very in-your-face about it.
Ppl don’t have accept anything. They pay for her career. They can like what they like and be vocal about it. Chloe needs to find herself and stop trying to be cardi b, Meghan ratchet etc. it’s not entertaining just thirsty
I understand Chloe but I still wish she’d release different music. However she is getting better. Surprise is her best release by far and she has a more toned down, nostalgic r&b video. She’s not doing too much but I feel like if she did less, even for a couple videos, she’d gain way more traction as an artist.
Surprise was sooo boring to me. And I don’t mean she has to be hitting high notes left right and center but the instrumental was boring to me and the lyrics were so repetitive. I want to see better R&B from her especially when we already know she’s capable
@@naomi.cannibal I liked all of Chloe’s singles, but “Surprise” is the best one for me. Maybe checkout the music video and the BET Awards performance to get into the song (hopefully)😭🎶
@@naomi.cannibal I agree, she should've released "For the Night". I don't get why "Surprise" was released especially considering that the fanbase was asked and most voted for "For the Night".
I’ve never seen Beyonce ride a man on stage. Beyonce kept it classy then eased into more a sexy persona. Chloë is doing too much too soon. Blk entertainers are degrading themselves and it’s quite sad. It is actually boring and predictable.
@@AminaPhilosophy She's doing too much because everyone only reacts when she does so. If she kept singing in her authentic style no one (beside her small fanbase) would care. Blame the music industry because they are pushing for oversexulized black female artists. They do not want any versatility because they know there's talent with black artists which they try to surpress.
I hope you do a video on the singer H.E.R she’s talented but there’s something missing with her in terms of how she marketed with her public persona as this Gen Z love child to prince and Lauryn hill VS how her music doesn’t measure to that high level and also how she’s able to be pushed to the mainstream and win all these major awards without really being a best selling crossover artist or a critical darling with a supportive cult following fanbase as well as her past Twitter days where she was being anti black colorist and shading SZA but won a Grammy and a Oscar for writing pro black songs
I don’t keep up with HER, but I feel like a lot of what you’re saying is the reason why? Something is definitely missing with her marketing when we only see her at award shows but don’t see her in between. I would be interested to do a video on her. And you DEF just inspired me to come up with a topic for a SZA video
This was a great assessment of the hypocrisy of the so called fan bases for artists like Chloe. I like that both Halle and Chloe are showing who they are while they’re still growing as artists.
She’s grown. She can do what she wants. Stop policing women. It’s giving toxic masculinity. She’s young, and has been sort of sheltered, due to being in the spot light her whole life. She’s trying to figure herself out as a woman. She’s transitioning now. She didn’t get to do so in her teens like most of us did. Let her transition however she wants. Let this young woman be a young woman. She’s still so innocent, and everyone’s bullying can ch age someone’s joyful personality.
Really makes you think why so many girls blossoming into their womanhood do so in such a hyper sexual way. Probably has something to do with the constant hyper sexual brainwashing by these artists, now she's a part of it...
@@misterhappy5462 is this someone from the most illiterate in society trying to check me. Reading is comprehension. @Delina stay on topic. We’re talking about Chloe Bailey. The things people were saying about her were very male gaze minded. You can carry the not all men rhetoric elsewhere.
Chloe's new songs are bops when you don't have a thousand people in your ear telling you she's doing too much😂 The lollipop video was cringe but folks gonna diss her over a video that she posted last year? Fine, but not me. I'm still listening to her and Halle. They're amazing performers, the vocals are always there! I think a lot of people here are hiding their rudeness behind "it's my opinion" So I tell myself, the great thing about opinions is they're not facts. These people don't know Chloe better than Chloe and her family do. Just because you perceive her as inauthentic doesn't mean she is💜 I think a lot of "shy" people (me included) are seen as fake or inauthentic by some any time we perform really well, get passionate about something, or open up around certain people. I'm sicka folks justifying opinions & assumptions with "I said what I said" as if that makes it accurate. Idk but it's too much energy to put into artists you don't even like.🤷🏽♀️
Chloe is amazing in all facets however, everything isn’t for everyone and that’s ok. Everyone isn’t here for the sexually saturated image regardless of the artist (I personally am but she honestly makes me cringe at times, I’ll be honest 🤷🏾♀️) but why insult those who aren’t fans? It doesn’t make them insecure and they don’t have to like anything, none of us do 🤷🏾♀️
I may not agree with Chole's presentation but that is her decision. Additionally, social media users love to give conflicting information. Many of the women I saw criticizing her and her videos; specifically, her covers; also have very revealing or risque photos on vacation etc. What confused me was where was the line drawn and who dictated that was the line?
I just don’t really likes chole direction I loved the “godly” vocals she use to show off. She’s a solo star now and older so of course she’s allowed to show off different sides of herself but I prefer her choleXhalle music
This is the best breakdown I've ever seen about how people have reacted to Chloe. I agree 100% with everything. I hope she continues to block out the bullshit and trust her own art. Everyone else will catch up.
As a shy socially awkward introvert 95% of the time, I like letting loose and expressing myself via dance, which some could see as an abrupt change in personality. I'm fortunate in that the people who see me day-to-day don't much overlap with the people I dance with, but because Chloë is a public figure with a history and skin darker than mine, she doesn't really get that privilege of separating artistic expression and regular everyday personality, especially with all the expectations placed on her. I just hope she's not being forced into a persona she didn't want for herself. Too often female artists (particularly WOC) are forced into the false dichotomy of the family-friendly always-smiley singer versus the loud proud sensual singer/dancer/performer. On one hand I agree that she doesn't need to rely on her appearance to make it big, since she's already so vocally skilled. However, I also agree with the sentiment of live and let live: I'm happy that she's grown up and started exploring herself as an individual and I just hope she's having fun, yk?
I agree and I like her a lot. But I also think we have to have a broader conversation about whether or not this form of sexuality is really empowering? I love women being confident and showing themselves off when they feel like it and that’s even greater when they are poc. But when it’s done so overtly for the male gaze with mice licking, ass shaking and so on, it’s something else. Chloe isn’t the problem here but rather the patriarchy that tells women that they have to do that and even makes them defend it not only to the world but to themselves as well as if it would be “female empowerement” when it’s really the opposite. Be sexy as much as you want but ask yourself truly, who is the lollipop cam girl and microphone licking really for?
13:45 Spitting facts right here: "It's here that we see again the classic misconception that embracing one's sexuality is only for the untalented, or for women who don't respect themselves."
by the way Minnie wrote that song about her husband but later sang it to her daughter. She literally says 'every time that we *moans* I'm more in love with you' lol clearly a sex reference
Girl these videos are addicting. You set the scene just like a True Crime shows. It sucks you in. It’s like I can’t look away. I gotta keep watching a whole marathon. Im tuned in.
@@naomi.cannibal yes. I’m trying not to watch them all. I’m like “okay just one more episode before I go to bed”. But im saving the rest for tomorrow. I’m driving to see a friend four hours away. And I’m going to put on all da videos on my way there. I’m washing my wigs and watching the videos and I’m like “OOh whaat” bc you said something juicy. I really enjoy your commentary.
At this point, I'ma need the ladies to stop saying "it's women's empowerment" when it comes to over sexualization. For Chloe, I'm giving her grace. But some of her stans are annoying. Just because I disagree with her route doesn't mean I'm anti black women expressing herself.🤣😂
If you look at the something in the water performance it seemed like two different artist on stage they didn’t perform like a duo it’s nothing wrong with that it just seems like they’re going in different directions artistically
Exactly so they are they not in unison anymore or Insync the girls are on two different paths now the connection is not like it once was either u can see that
Her talent is real and her intentions are pure. That much is true. She is still finding herself out and doing so in front of millions of people, that's what makes her situation different from others. Chloe genuinely overdoes it at times but at the same time, it looks like a young woman figuring herself out in front of the world. I don't think that deserves any hate. She naturally sexy but she doesn't let her energy speak for itself, she ends up overamplifying it. And that's where the cringe comes in. That paired with her offstage personality being so completely different than her on stage one, it can confuse people or pique their interest. She doesn't deserve any negativity for any of this though.
@@ericeric463 let’s keep it real lil kim always gets her flowers and i love her. Nicki Minaj is always getting disrespected lil kim is always praised both by the media and industry
It is funny that she is natural as she is, but the ones with chemical blow ups are celebrated. It is so sad that women must fight to feel comfortable in their skin and then have self esteem issues for that acceptance.
First time listener because I can’t see the screen hence my screen name but I wanted to say thank you so much for doing this video Naomi you are fierce and fabulous and speak truth to power and as a 44-year-old white blind gay guy living in San Francisco I’ve loved Chloe and Halle and Continually play ungodly hour album on Vinyl on my record player at least every other day! I love Chloe‘s music it might not be spelling her name correctly because I dictate everything and it’s hard to edit things when I can’t see the screen. My phone reads things out to me and I am able to listen to RUclips videos! Everything you said in this video is absolutely true I love Chloe‘s music as soon as Have Mercy came out I have been blasting it on my Sonos 5.1 surround system because it is just so shake your ass and drop that booty music that I love! Even with treat me and surprise I’m still dropping my 44 year old white gay ass so hard that my furniture is starting to break lol! You have a new super fan of me Naomi and thank you for your videos they are awesome and so informative and so awesome I know I keep saying awesome but even your video that I listen to before this one about RCA curse it’s true I totally agree! I love me some Normani and I love Chloe! Again you have a new super fan of me and keep pumping out the videos girl because they are fierce fabulous and fantastic! Work it out girl thank you again
I was just talking to my friend about this. She was trying to say stuff along the line of why is Chloe being so sexual and I was like when she wasn’t being sexual mugs were constantly commenting on her body, then when she said f it and leaned into that, she got criticized. It is so creepy to be more ok with outsiders sexualizing someone than that person making the decision themselves to embrace their sexuality.
I don’t think people want her image to necessarily stay like in the beginning or when she was with her girl group…. We just don’t want her to be so tacky about it… like be sexy or whatever just do it with taste
The lollipop video was was so relatable because i did something like that and tried to feign innocence. I knew what I was doing. Didn’t think I’d get backlash though. Navigating social media when your trying to push an image is rough. Plus when you know sex sells its a very easy path to take. It’s almost a shortcut.
I feel like, and this is just my opinion, that the aesthetic that Beyonce is trying with Chloe would be better suited on Normani. Imagine if Beyonce was mentoring Normani. Imagine that.
I can’t take you fools seriously, the biggest issue is that you people still see this young lady as a child who is attached to puppet strings of Beyoncé , what ever issues y’all have with this young lady is yours
There is a lot she will learn from Beyoncé and others. People have fans on social media and sometimes some fans try to speak as if they’re an authority and as if they know what is best for others. She will soon learn this and not allow it ruffle her feathers. It’s all apart of her evolving as a woman.
She really just doesn’t know her audience point blank period. Cause she doing things for audiences that didn’t pay her any mind before. It’s really self sabotage for herself and the relationship she did have with the fans who likes her for her
Chloe is gorgeous. Her body is to DIE for. like I stan. but I still feel like she does too much by forcing the sexuality. There's a difference between sexual and sensual. Beyonce is sensual. Megan the Stallion is sexual. If Chloe was sensual, I'd get it. I think more people would be into it. But she's like the girl in high school who throws her sexuality in everyone's face, so of course people are gonna call it out and have something to say. I don't think it's [about] her body. Nobody says anything about Normani. I think it's that she doesn't do it in a tasteful way. She's trying to do sex in a hiphop/rap way not an r&b way. If you catch my drift. I think Chloe's age also plays apart. She's still seen as "younger." Not that she can't talk about sex, just have some taste about it.😬
How is she throwing her sexuality on your face when all she does is post the content she wants on her page? if you don't like it the normal response is to keep scrolling, you don't go to your neighbor's living room and request they change the wallpaper cause you don't like it, what
Absolutely. Shes giving cum dump, not silky sexy. The first version wears thin super fast. Meg Thee Stallion who can actually rap is losing her career for leaning on that crass version.
I kind on think that everything progressed very quickly after Ungodly Hour and it threw fans off. I don't think she is doing too much at all and I love her but I kind of feel like she should have eased into her sexuality. Lets take her singles so far, for example. I personally think that Surprise should have been the first video and single. Even though it is sexual, it's a lot more sensual and would have been a better introduction to her as a solo artist after Ungodly Hour. Have Mercy could have been the second single and would have continued to hype her album up. I personally don't think that Treat Me should have been a single at all and for her third she should have went with something that was more romantic/heartfelt type of single. That's just my opinion though.
@@MeMarcusTheCreator I personally think it should have just been an album track. But then again it could have been like a later single or final single off the album. I just don't think it was the right choice to follow up Have Mercy.
I love Chloe and halle so much, I always supported both ladies, but chloe shocked me with have mercy she killed me I was going crazy this woman is everything, and when I saw the news that halle was in little mermaid I was like oh this is going to impact every little black kid's heart and every of my black friends who grew up wanting representation on Disney, I truly love them so much ♥♥
I dnt understand how dressing and behaving in an overly sexy manner is empowering or expressing your sexuality but that just me. I'm an African. We do things differently over here.
I can understand outgrowing an artist or them outgrowing their audience, but who the fuck cares what a grown woman does with their body? If her behavior bothers you, stop watching for her posts.
I just have this uncomfortable feeling that most black women today have to deliver this heavy sexiness to be worth watching, especially in rap and r'n'b it's like you need to have a big bum and/or be oversexualized to make it while white women don't necessarily need to go this far, we have many examples. I mean we have Ella Mai or HER who are not falling into that category but they are still exceptions. I just think we should have more diversity of profiles within each ethnicity.
Remember when Rihanna dropped GGGB? It performed so well bc it was an authentic shift. The GP may not always "get it" in real time but they know when it's inorganic.
i think a big part of it is that a female artist will be sexualized no matter what but when one decides to take control and do it themselves, its an issue
18:45 For some reason no one seems to remember that Chloe and Halle first started off on DISNEY.. On Next Big Thing and won their season so of course it was a while before they could market themselves in a way that THEY wanted
I wish Ariana Grande got this much criticism for dressing like a child bride all of the time. And her fans are young af. People that criticize artists music don’t even listen to the albums. They’re just basing it on a few radio singles
You have gained a new subscriber. Love your content and how well put together your words/research are done . Second video from you I’m watching and I’m in love with your personality and mind . I came here with a bit of the mindset of her being a kid and how uncomfortable or forced the new persona seems . Then I saw one of your responses in the chat and u made me realized that when you’re more confident with your body it shows . What cardi said it’s true and that is my fear for Chloe tbh . I just don’t want her to be expected to be one dimensional . I just saw cardi and Meghan’s festival performance and it just didn’t sit well with me how black women have to take off their clothes or “act the most “ to be seen. But then gaga and Britney do it . Tinashe kinda started with a “safe image” but then she didn’t get attention till she did more provocative video or music . My head is hurting and definitely you are making me change my mindset . I would like to get some perspectives from women in here . *For women only* when you express with your body do you do it for your own satisfaction or do you feel you do it to please society’s (mens) perception of you? By no means this is disrespectf but and honest open question .
I can say as a gay male in his 30s I did things like show my body in my early 20s to get attention or “approval “ from men especially my ex when he broke up with me due to gaining some weight over the years . It definitely makes you crave approval from men . In my late 20s I would say I met wonderful people that loved me for my body and mind . Now I feel comfortable with my body and I am open to do a “provocative “ picture if I want to for me not for the guys . It’s true it shows when you start loving yourself and you do it for u . Just felt like this was needed for more context in my previous statement. I honestly just like to understand how we as humans think .
Thank you for your kind comment! I really hope my content pushes people to think in different ways. Honestly sometimes my own content makes me change my mind about things 😂
I’m confused to where y’all get the Beyoncé comparisons from. Beyoncé wasn’t humping the stage while singing Crazy in Love, Baby Boy or Naughty Girl…soooooo what are y’all talking about?? Chloe’s music is not good. She has the potential, but she does cringy things. She needs artist development and needs to learn that there is a fine line between sexy and trashy. She doesn’t seem to know how to be sexy, she goes overboard.
Chloe needs to keep making the music she wants and being who she is regardless of what people say. She makes you cringe, that's your problem and you choose how to best deal with.
@@autumnrichelle1097 yes but she was never slapping her cat in her videos or making raunchy gestures like licking her mic. 🐝 kept it classy sexy and Chloé is not 🤷🏾♀️. There is definitely a difference btw the two
I don't think she's doing anything that hasn't been done already by many other female stars who started in the business as children. I think Janet is the poster child but Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Miley Cyrus, and even Beyonce and Rhianna all did the same thing. I just think that even by those standards Chloe overdoes it sometimes. I'm rooting for her. She's super talented and she has her whole life ahead of her to figure out what she wants to do.
Leave this girl alone. Even if she is doing too much, so what? She can do whatever she wants you can choose not to watch it. Anyone with a body will be judged for sexualizing themselves when her simply existing with a body is apparently a flaw.
I definitely think people are mad because she’s not fitting what they think a black woman with talent should be! It’s annoying that if people don’t agree with something they think hiding behind a screen and being an asshole towards the person is okay! If you don’t like her listen to someone else like damn! It’s odd that others can mature and show their talent, but when Chloe does it, it’s such a problem 🤦🏽♀️🙄
I really wish Chloe could see her original (og cxh) fans and our views on her career. Right now she's trying to get new fans, by doing that you have to please others before you. We truly support her and halle, not just for twitter or social media hype. Recently she even said a producer did not like her work and it discouraged her for a while. I truly feel like her and halle getting mainstream/known is not the best for them music wise. They cannot do their original style or even grow in it. Before they had time and the space to create, now it's not the same. Halle won't even realise music and is only sharing snippets, she's probably wants to not disappoint her chance at debut. Have you noticed none of Chloe's solo songs have any feel or artistry she's shown before? Her and Halle have done pop music too in their past album, they know how to tap into pop and add their own spin on it. I feel if they were born in the wrong era for music. The 90s/2000s they would have been IT. Music now is about how you look and your personality.
A true artist creates work that expresses THEIR artistry, not necessarily what fans want. Too bad you don't like Chloe's freaky side, but know there are those of us who love all her sides.
wow, I am from the UK and I was aware of them before, but never listened to much before. Only until the Ungodly Hour came out and listened to it repeatedly. I think people should feel and enjoy how they want to present themselves. Black women have been put down even through childhood, we should all express ourselves the way we want to. And also people will always judge you no matter whether good or bad. just live your truth and life.
I definitely agree with a lot of your points, your analysis has depth and is insightful. Like if you don't like Chloe's music or style then listen to the hundreds of other young black female artists who don't put on risque performances or over-sexual songs that need the support. That being said what really gripes at me is the idea that feeling sexy and confident in your body can only be shown in one way, through sex. Like yeah, I'd feel sexy too if I was a light skin beautiful woman with an hourglass body. The whole thing feels more like it's for the male gaze rather than empowering women.
Completely agree. I truly don’t feel super empowered/ sexy when I’m showing a bunch of skin but that doesn’t mean that that’s not the case for other people! I just wish it were more of a “choice” for a lot of young women than them potentially feeling like it’s what they need to do to get noticed or fit in, which muddies the waters.
Although Ungodly Hour was critically acclaimed, I think it’s strange how people act like Ungodly Hour was this HUGE breakthrough and commercial success for the girls when in reality, although it achieved more buzz than their previous work, ultimately, it was a commercial failure. I have a feeling their next album as a duo will be a commercial hit though.
agreed! while that album had me in CHAINS all of 2020, I doubt the average person even know it exists.
Yeah it’s surprising that it wasn’t a bigger success especially with the cult classic following it achieved all through social media
This! I’m still introducing songs to ppl. Like the fact I Wonder What She Thinks Of Me should’ve been a single and should be everywhere as the new classic ballad
I agree. I did love the album Ungodly Hour, but it actually makes sense for Chloe to lean more into pop to have more mass appeal.
@@missyd1215 she is, but she’s relying on a already tried image. And loud come and go music.

Exactly!! It’s a scam.

There was a Grownish episode acknowledging this growth and I think they’ve done a great job maturing compared to Disney stars
yea but those songs were bangers 😅 im all for it, but you really need the music to sort of speak for itself when the controversy peaks
THIS
WORD!!!! so well said.
Exactly. Beyoncé was the same age being sexy but it never felt forced

exactly this
I just miss when most black singers and rappers would sing or rap about love/romance without being so vulgar and oversexualized.
Exactly. You can dislike what she’s putting out without attacking her entire existence
This and This!!!..

Omg what you said just hit home so hard… “young black girls deserve singers like dua and Olivia” omggg
@@Ebrie0903 exactly! They complement each other so well as a duo, but each shines with a different light as a solo artist!
I love it. I hope she continues to be "extra"

And her unnatural forced behavior is exactly why majority of people aren't checking for her music
I completely get it. I also think a lot of fans feel “betrayed” by Chloe in that sense and that’s another reason why her newer image is hard to handle

Well if that’s the case, you have to understand why people may view that as fake or inauthentic.

This.

The issue is black women feeling like we have to derive our power from overt sexuality. Twerking and showing most of your ass isn’t the only way to feel sexy or powerful but it’s shoved down our throats by the masses, so when you see an artist go down the same route it’s disappointing
This 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Idk to me it seems like women love to twerk and feeling sexy. I feel society puts more pressure on women to suppress their sexuality because of how men react to it.
Thank you!
Ok when I wrote this I was only at the beginning of the video but now at the end I see that you talked about this subject too😅
Well yes there is a narrative that black women in particular, have to be sexy in other for their music to sell, however, some women fit this narrative, while others don't. Deal with it
Well said!
Yep.
I agree.
(This comment is not necessarily about Chloe Bailey specifically, especially because I see her as a victim of this whole ordeal.)
Hypersexuality is not as empowering as people like to claim.
I love Chloe, I hope things go so well for her and makes her mark in the industry ♥️
Well said!

Let her be 🤦🏽♀️
Right! This convo didn’t start and it certainly won’t end with Chloe either!!
Absolutely!

@@kierra17 Well of course, can't argue against that. She's a free woman so she will do her, as she should :)
Yes! This comment captures my opinion perfectly too

She is young too.
Exactly
The issue is she ACTUALLY talented. She doesn’t have to lean on her being a thick, light skinned jawn. So it’s frustrating to see her trying to give us this overly sexual persona, when we literally don’t need it, or want it from her. We want her vocals and musical talents. Not her twerking. It’s a enough of the girls doing it, that don’t have a choice.

Personally I love Chloe and her extra and unique approach to music and stages

To the Cardi IG live clip--it's really sad that Black women (especially female rappers) can't be diverse with their content like they did back in the 90s and early 00s. There was definitely a shift in the industry when it came to Black female representing in music and it was not for the better
I completely agree
Agree
Cardi B isn't even Black. Why reference her 🙄
The reason why female rappers back then could be diverse is because they had talent and real lyrical prowess to back up their femininity.

Hey they used to drag Beyoncé for her “raunchy” style so they can stop acting like they always loved the route Bey went, after she went solo.
Ooohhh. 😯 I had no idea about any of that.
I don’t keep up with HER, but I feel like a lot of what you’re saying is the reason why? Something is definitely missing with her marketing when we only see her at award shows but don’t see her in between. I would be interested to do a video on her. And you DEF just inspired me to come up with a topic for a SZA video
It actually confuses me I never (alongside many) understood the hype about her

@@arseeoliveira6934 That makes perfect sense.
No one said she’s too sexy... they said she do too much when being sexy. Like her sexy isn’t fluid
She will learn to define the standards of beauty for herself and not allow the standards of beauty to define her.
This was a great assessment of the hypocrisy of the so called fan bases for artists like Chloe. I like that both Halle and Chloe are showing who they are while they’re still growing as artists.
That is true, I noticed Chloe was sexualized loooooong before she started making that her self image.

Idk but it's too much energy to put into artists you don't even like.🤷🏽♀️
Yeah, while it’s not the Ungodly Hour vibes I loved, I still really like Chloe’s singles. She’s versatile
It doesn’t make them insecure and they don’t have to like anything, none of us do 🤷🏾♀️
I think to expect someone to be something their not, is cringe
I may not agree with Chole's presentation but that is her decision. Additionally, social media users love to give conflicting information. Many of the women I saw criticizing her and her videos; specifically, her covers; also have very revealing or risque photos on vacation etc. What confused me was where was the line drawn and who dictated that was the line?
I just don’t really likes chole direction I loved the “godly” vocals she use to show off. She’s a solo star now and older so of course she’s allowed to show off different sides of herself but I prefer her choleXhalle music
Chloe is “too much” that’s just who she is😂if someone doesn’t like it it’s not hard to just scroll or change the song whenever her song comes on
This is the best breakdown I've ever seen about how people have reacted to Chloe. I agree 100% with everything. I hope she continues to block out the bullshit and trust her own art. Everyone else will catch up.
“HAVE MERCY “ is 🔥 it’s catchy. Definitely a bop 🎶🎵💃🏽
They all need to leave this grown ass woman alone omg that’s apart of growth. She is exploring her sexy and it’s ok.

Chloe x Halle make great music. Their most recent album is my favorite, but the other 2 are great
I kind on think that everything progressed very quickly after Ungodly Hour and it threw fans off.
Yes, I think the really quick shift gave a lot of people whiplash and had them confused for sure
Do you think treat me should have been a album track or not released at all? (Personally it’s my favorite song from her)
@@MeMarcusTheCreator I personally think it should have just been an album track. But then again it could have been like a later single or final single off the album. I just don't think it was the right choice to follow up Have Mercy.

PERIODT!
Wasn't this the same gp pushing her to go solo because of her sex appeal, how is it inorganic all of a sudden
i think a big part of it is that a female artist will be sexualized no matter what but when one decides to take control and do it themselves, its an issue

Thank you 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Chloe needs to keep making the music she wants and being who she is regardless of what people say. She makes you cringe, that's your problem and you choose how to best deal with.

Theyre doing well now but I agree, they would’ve killed it in the 90s!
She gave us a whole thesis. This was presented like an A+ essay as it should be.
I RIDE for Chloe x Halle 🙌🏾🙌🏾
