@Davidleeboher1296 My sweet friend was his psychiatric nurse when he was admitted under his mother. She didn't speak favorably of Roky's mother, as it was his mother who more or less was pushing for stronger treatments. It's still a mystery how Roky's name came up, all I can surmise was it had to have been a song on the radio in the background as we were talking. She knew nothing about Roky and I explained to her what a legend he was in England and in other countries. And this all started when she blurbed out : " I was his nurse..
He did sing at that gig (At the Ritz in Austin.)in '87. The live album from that show bears that much out. I know the documentary made it look like Will Sexton covered for him , but , if Roky was a slow starter , it's true , by all accounts , he did'nt want to be there. He put in a fine vocal performance , just the same.
In '93 , Roky was persuaded to perform at the Texas Music Awards., but , wasn't too keen on the idea. I was there. He'd gone missing and arrived onstage an hour after he was scheduled to perform. He still seemed hesitant , but , sang great and did about five other shows with Mystic Knights (Tho ' Alvin Crow was not at the first show.), the last one featured an unbilled performance by Doug Sahm. Today , of course , he loves performing , and is doing more of it than friends and fans could have imagined.

I love Roky. He was a really unique man. A troubled soul. I had the luck to experience him live. All smiles after the concert 🙂❤️
