This song captured the sadness of Margulis as well as his warrior's heart. He fought to the end even if all he had was his pride, his last duel with Jin.
I was thinking the same thing. Even though he realized his life's work had all been a delusion and he knew he would lose to Jin he fought on out of honor. Very much a Japanese Bushido philosophy.
Best boss fight in the game. Fatal fight has always been my favorite song ever since i first listened to it, it basically what got me into the series, and hearing this more emotional and sad version while margulis is kicking my ass in his final battle is a priceless experience
"AS A WARRIOR.... AND AS A MAN ! I WILL LEAVE MY MARK UPON THE WORLD ! " This fantastic quote really convinced me on how much Margulis was an absolutely fantastic character, and how much he didn't deserved what happened to him in the 3rd episode. At the end, it was a real tragedy.
I mean the guy was a *massive* war criminal. Remember Ariadne? I think that finding out in the end he did it all for nothing is exactly the fate a person like him deserves. That is what I feel makes his character so intriguing. He oozes contempt for regular people throughout the series because he feels that they lack his kind of conviction, and that their obliviousness renders them incapable of meaningful existence. But in the end he is revealed to be just as blind as they were; just another pawn on Wilhelm’s board. Like in the end, all his rage and disgust is ultimately revealed to be aimed at himself, at his own inability to find meaning within the current state of the universe. In many ways, he exists like a gnosis already, solipsistically pursuing the Zohar and his dream of Lost Jersusalem no matter who it hurts, ultimately just another moth to the flame.
The last fight against Margulis is the coolest and most climatic fight of the game. I loved it how Margulis lost everything and was completely betrayed. But he still laughed at his fate and confronted the only one suited for ending his life and capable of understanding him for this final fight. No need to say that I immediately fell in love with this song. It suits the epicness of this battle just fine and is probably my favourite piece of bgm in any game. R.I.P. Margulis and Jin.
I remember when I was began the fight I was all fired up, and we were going at it... ...and then my mind registered this song at around 50 seconds in... ...and I had to put my controller down and just LISTEN. I was that stunned, that breathless. It's got to be one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Thank you for the upload :D
I remembered hearing this song when I bought Xenosaga episode 1 reloaded and they give you the extra DVD which has trailer for episode 2 and it's playing this song (the original one) I was like watch that trailer around a thousand times because of this beautiful song. I still kept the DVD'S. Thank GOD.
Oh God. I remember tearing up when this music started playing at this fight. Margulis is an antagonist, but you can't help but feel sad for him at what happens after.
This or the bonus track Jr. Theme from XS2 was probably my favorite music from the entire series... or maybe even Albedo's Theme from XS1... it was epic too... this whole series was epic to the extreme.
Such an amazing game, this song is freaking awesome! That fight against Margulis was one of the most epic moments in all JRPGs for me, seeing Jin go all out against him. Xenosaga 3 was too damn good man.
Xenosaga 3 was my first game in the series so of course I was VERY confused for 90% of the story probably. Barely understood who any of these people were or why they were important or why this guy hated Jin so much when it was clear they had history. I just loved the game and the combat was fun. But even with all that this song struck a chord in me. It just...it sounds so sad and melancholic. Like lamenting a lost time in their lives or perhaps a lost friendship. I just find it awesome that it communicates the depth that the history of these two individuals is intertwined without saying a word even to someone who had no idea what was going on. It was clear that this was meaningful and a very important moment for both of them.
This song has that feel of a person getting in one of those epic one-on-one duels that take epic proportions, and you just just end up not caring who wins the fight anymore.
And yet at the same time, addictive. At this point in the game I pretty much gave myself up for masochism and kept continously fighting him, with various strategic alterations until eventually I succeeded. Der Wille Zur Macht, indeed.
We need Xenosaga remakes..... if only just so that we can here this piece of music again, without spending hundreds of dollars (I don't own a PS2 or PS3, or the games :( ).
It's a huge shame this song is only in one fight during the whole game, if I recall, because it is a fantastic battle song. Not quite as upbeat as the Episode II mix, but there's a huge amount of emotion, it being the final battle between Jin and Margulis. The techno feel of the original wouldn't have quite been as fitting.
That fucking E.S fight with margulis ..was the most painful fight I gone through..it was exciting and damn long heheh its been a long time since I've heard this one ..good memories..
Vessels of anima.. played such a little role in Episodes I and II with two having a little more importance. But III made them.... plot items and had some really good boss battles revolving around them
Best fight in Ep. III for me, wonderfully frantic and challenging. It often takes sheer luck just to get by E.S Levi's overpowered attacks. UZUUUUUUUUUUUUKI!!!!
@LeonardLayten Thats why you learn to charge. Free HP up and temp DEF up for that turn. Also, if you pay attention to the elemental attributes of attacks, you can equip accessories that can help defend against that attack. Non elemental one hit kills are pretty scarce in that game
@foxhound0469 One hit kills PERIOD are rare in the game... as in only the boss encounters like Margulis have them, and only if you don't Charge/Defend that turn like you're supposed to.... it queues you pretty well when to do it too.
May god bless yuki kajiuras voice and vocal skills. My only regret is not playing the xenosaga games. Heres to an HD collection one day. Or i could just play them on emulator.
If the developers had any sense, they would continue this series. I may have been like 3 when it came out, but I still think they're a hell of a lot better than most games these days.
(I know this is years old but I still want to clarify) Originally there were suppose to be 6 games but only 3 mainline titles were released. After the first game the other 2 weren’t doing well in terms of sales. They were also made by MonolithSoft who at the time was owned by Bandai Namco but they were bought out by Nintendo and the rights to Xenosaga were kept by Bandai Namco (a similar situation that occurred with Xenogears and Square Enix). It’s not that the developers didn’t want to make another one but it’s just that due to copyright they can’t since Bandai owns the rights and not Nintendo. Tho I wouldn’t count Xenosaga out just yet as unlike Square Enix, Bandai Namco has let the team at Monolith use the Xenosaga characters KOS-MOS and T-elos in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 as cameos.
@@N120Xeno what’s even sadder is that episodes 1 and 2 were originally supposed to be episode 1, and episode 3 was going to be the start of episode 2. so we got only a fourth of the final story…
Lyrics (what they sound like to me): "Your balsamic, garlic, garlic, hey!" "Come slowly, hey two tay hee, yay! The test of Mia! Call me Ed, hey two tay hee, yay me! The best of Mia! Alanliyamo Mia!"
Indeed. Shion was just completely pointless to everything, except for the fatKOS-MOS had a hard-on for protecting her. Then they made her into the cause of everything and blah blah blah, it was so forced at that point. I was sad we didn't even get a peak of why Margulis, Pellegri and Jin's friendship died, or why Pellegri dumped Jin for Margulis. Or heck, why Margulis killed Jin's grandfather.
They have sense but developers aren't always the ones in the reins. Namco canned the project and then Nintendo bought Monolith Soft. This led to a staff restructuring and theproject was completely rebooted with Xenoblade and X being the new "Xeno" entries and both being entirely self-contained.
This version of the music is even better than the original song in my opinion, because it's like a mix of the 'epic feeling' of the original music plus the 'sign of a ending coming soon' because this is the last time they fight against each other, amazing soundtrack.
I managed to beat Omega ID without losing...but i lost three times to this fight, i feel like such a failure and yet i manged to beat T-elos, Kevin, and the final boss with no problems what so ever, figures, i suck at the E.S. fights
"balsamic dressing yeah got it yet. Bushine enter in to it yeaaaah you can taste the meat. then let me eat the rest of it. yum yum balsamic on me!" what the lyrics sound like to me LOL
@eviter equip jins ES with the disc with 10 slots, and use the ones that prevent enemy counters/revenges lol i gave it to him simply cuz jin was mostly close combat (counter/revenge doesnt happen to long ranged attacks)
@Bonkz2 they say that solely because legally they can't be related. Had things worked out the way they were orignally planned i thing saga and gears would have been legitimately connected.
wow. i never knew that about the development. Thats so sad, but understandable. I kinda appreciate this game more because of what they DID accomplish with what they had.

Epic battle theme...perfect for the final battle with Margulis.
I agree
One of best E.S fights in this amazing saga.
I wonder if Margulis really wanted to win this fight. If he had win, then there would nothing more for him than wander aimlessly.
He absolutely wanted to win but the determination of Jin and the gang overwhelmed him
If margulis did win would he have been a ronin, a warrior without a master?
he would probably try to fight wilhelm head on afterwards
I just replayed Xeno3 a few days ago. I still swear this guy's THE hardest boss.

@FlamingPain can't argue with you there, that fight was epic, but this track just made it SOOO much better.
Blows dust off PS2....Margulis equals Ramsus from Xenogears
If you play a Yuki Kajiura song backwards, it turns out to be a shopping list of whatever crazy music drugs she's on.
I love this song and the trailer version of it too.
I just think about this music during my crap job, and suddenly I don't mind the crap job anymore :)
