I love this.I love shorter layers too and this adds beautiful texture without compromising the weight at the perimeter.I am going to try this.Thank you Andrew!!!
I have no words to appreciate to ur skill sir.i can only say I u r beyond perfection.i love long hair with volume but nobody did it for me.now I will show this video to hair stylist and try to get same volume with long hair.thanks a lot from 💓.
I just did my friends haircut . She wanted short layers and still have her length! It was a little challenging !!! But with this technique seems to be easer!! Thank you!
Love it! I love that you sound like Drew Scott from Property Brothers! Home sheltering--gaining knowledge in hairshaping and filling a little of the HGTV void I can only enjoy at the gym, from the comfort of my purple sofa in my terry cloth robe! Thanks a million. I am looking forward to employing this cut and stopping obsessing about blending everything. Love the pie shapes and the disconnects! Liberating!
Omg i just love the look !!! Well i don't really trust my hair to any one here in town so, I just did it to my hair by mi self and the result are amassing I just love how my hair looks .... Thank you
Amazing. I had been taking out straight sections of hair. I love the pie shape to keep the length near the mid and end parts of the head. Her hair looks great and is a fresh take on a classic. Does not look like a mullet at all. Thanks so much for sharing You communicate and show visuals so well.
I just received this in my email today, and then Andrew said it was for 2014. But I don't mind that it's 5 yrs. old, because it's such a great technique. Thanks!
LOL! Yes, sometimes we go back into the archives for the emails because we also feel there is a lot that still is applicable today. Glad you enjoyed this one!
I got this don and its fantastic ! Thank you for really explaining how ! You are doing a great service to everyone that sits in a chair and try's to explain to the hair dresser what they want A+
GREAT educational video! My hair is kind of fine, but I want some movement in it because otherwise its flat! This is a genius way to do it without compromising its thickness. THANK YOU !!! -X-
great technique im just wondering: since your cutting such a severe amount of hair off to connect the interior to your guideline point in the crown, how will the hair lay since its not being blended in through the bottom
Great job! Gotta try this. But BIG QUESTION: how would we keep it from looking like it needs to be blended with the remaining bottom layered hair? I find this to be my biggest challenge with longer hair clients that want the layers and texture but getting it to look blended and not choppy..have lines or noticeable disconnections. An advice? Thanks for sharing you guys are fantastic.
Where can I find a stylist like you. I would love for you to cut my hair. I'm terrified of stylist cutting my hair. Way too many terrible experiences. I def feel like I can trust you!
Aime Lopez Ask for referrals! When you see someone walking around and you love their cut, don't be afraid to ask "who cut your hair?" You can also post to our Facebook page as there are many great stylists who follow us daily. facebook.com/samvillapros
What is the name for this haircut / technique? I have hair to my waist and a heavy middle part, and need massive help but hate thick layers, and love my length, this would be perfect!
Great video and amazing tip. thank you. but just one question, I have really long hair curly hair. I love it but I feel I need to do something to it (apart from standard layers at the fronts) to give it a little more character. but Im really scared of it frizzing/collecting up. would this technique be safe to use on wavy to curly hair without looking like a poodle? how? thnks in advance.
what do you do about the ladies who have hair down their back, dont want any length off, but want layers up to their cheekbones? i always find length coming off the perimeter. or i end up seeing (on celebs) where it looks like there arnt any layers on the bottom (but there is at the top) at all bc its so long
Hello, could you please also tell us how the hair coloring done for the model? Or the name of the technique used? Or post a video for creating movement and depth by using 2 colors (one lighter, one darker) but not necessarily with the ombre or balayage techniques? For example the model seems to have light highlights, darker hair underneath and it just looks different than what I've seen so far
Wow, great technique, really like the teaching, at first I thought OMG??? scary, but having watched this all the way through most of the time with some peoples videos, I click off after 3 mins! Love the colour which highlights the cut also....Professional all the way! watching you from England! xx
Now THAT I need! I am petrified to return to my stylist, he doesn't get anything I request. Here with very long hair, not that thick, but very healthy. Now I need you! Please come cut my hair! Loved the vid!
I have a question. Is this technique will work in long but skinny hair?. I have my hair in lawyers but I would like to have sort layers at the back so it looks more thicker and fun hair. Should I work on shallow pies all around my hair because of the skinny hair?. I usually cut my hair by myself cause my stylist left town. Thank you!
this works great on skinny hair! like you said, just take the pie sections more shallow so that you don't take too much weight away from the ends. don't be afraid to go pretty short on the shortest point of the layers.
I just recently found you on here and I love watching your videos especially the haircuts and the texture iron super cool! I don't like this technique and some others because it's too much guess work. I can see these kinds of cuts on some women that need that volume at the top, whats killing me why not just make a guide where her part is I mean she probably isn't going to move it to the other side. All the haircuts are dry... maybe you could also mention what products to use while your cutting hair I'm new to Redken products so I don't know much PM I'm good with.
I've always wanted a style like this for my long hair (about the middle of my back). To have layers kinda like this, but not loose the actual length of my hair. But I'm afraid this wouldn't work for my hair type. Would this still work for frizzy, wavy, pretty thick hair, or would it just make it kinda like a bigger poof ball? Any help would be appreciated
I think it would still work for your hair because you have plenty of hair you could even grab a bit more hair and bring up into the layers.just tell the hair dresser you want an increase layer and get it thinned out a bit cos it will add more texture and it won't be so thick and boof out.should look amazing esp when you straighten it.just thought I'd say my oppinion,i wasnt sure if anyone had replied to you yet.I learnt how to do this kind of layer at my cert 3 course in hair dressing so I know from experience it is a great kind of layer for long thick hair and its great for thin hair too but you just leave more on perimeter and don't thin it.For thick hair i always like to take some bulk out though after wards by using thinners or slicing into it and chipping into the ends and even using a razor to add the texture and remove bulk.if you show your hair dresser this video you can go wrong then, good luck :)
LOL, when he mentioned the 90s, & layered hairstyles, I wonder if he was referring to 'the Rachel' hairstyle. Though that was more like mid 90s, if I remember correctly. LOL I had that hairstyle, it was a cute hairstyle for the time, but a real big pain in the butt to style! But I know what he's saying-I'm always afraid to get layers all over because yeah, sometimes it looks thin towards the bottom, or I hate it when you can almost see what I'd describe as like a 'shelf' in the back, if you can picture what I'm trying to describe.
This is Art really .My expensive hairdresser refused to cut layers at the top for years .Why dont people educate themselves and remain ignorant and unprofessional ?
I love this cut! My problem is how to ask your client if they'd be interested in a disconnect, I feel like most clients would say no even though its an awesome look!
It's all in how you present it... asking them if they are ok with their layers being disconnected might cause a few guests to be hesitant. Tell them you have a new technique that adds great texture and will leave the density in their ends then ask them if they would be interested in that! If the finished result feels too disconnected to them, you can always do a little more blending between the layers and the perimeter.
Andrew Carruthers What would be the best way to blend the layers with the disconnect? I love all the texture and movement with them but I also would love to see a connected style, too. Would pulling the hair out at a 90 from the crown down to the nape and point cutting help this or is there a better technique?
This stylist knows what he's talking about. Made my hair look and feel like a dream. Thank you!
i will show this vid to my little sis.whos graduating from cosmo and high school.THANK U .GOD BLESS !!!
Thank you for all the love!
This is a massive confidence boost for all stylist. Thank you Andrew x
I love this.I love shorter layers too and this adds beautiful texture without compromising the weight at the perimeter.I am going to try this.Thank you Andrew!!!

YOURE AWESOME!!!!
Hermoso, me encantó la técnica muy sencilla y bella.
This is exactly what I need, my hair is so heavy, but nobody seems to understand me, and that finish with a short layer
that was great, really interesting and great results, perfect.

Bravo Andrew, you are well spoken, a great communicator, and really made it easy as pie
loved it all but would have liked to see a pan around the finished style so we could see the end result better.

he reminds me of the property brothers. same voice :) love this cut.
Super nice hair! My lady jacked my hair when I asked for layers last time! :(
your awesome .... love it ...
How much do u charge for that haircut?

DISCONNECTED IS REALLY A BETTER CUT TO ME THAN BLENDED MUCH MORE VISUALLY APPEALING
Her hair looks so soft I want to touch it all day.

@@samvillahair Did she take some kinda hair treatment or whatever?? Really need it these days.

Great advice, thank you!
Andrew Carruthers What would be the best way to blend the layers with the disconnect? I love all the texture and movement with them but I also would love to see a connected style, too. Would pulling the hair out at a 90 from the crown down to the nape and point cutting help this or is there a better technique?
You are amazing!!! i wish you'd cut my hair the hair dresser in my area are terrible :(
you r perfect
Please show how it looks after you've styled it a bit!
