My uncle fought in Guadalcanal and a couple other battles in the pacific campaign. He died in 2017 and helped my parents legally migrate into this country in the 80’s. He had several medals, including Purple Hearts from fighting the Japanese. He was a very proud man and a very patriotic American. I’ll never forget the stories he would share with me. I’m grateful to have known him and grateful for these gentlemen also. May the price of freedom never be forgotten

Here’s to the greatest generation whose lives are flickering into that twilight of time. To paraphrase Lincoln, what solemn pride that must be theirs to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom. The America of the 21st century is forever grateful for their sacrifice.

Wow, this is incredible that you met with these soldiers on Utah beach David! You can see how much it meant to them that you got to know them and did that! I agree, if everyone understood the sacrifices they made then, we would all be closer.

So amazing that these veterans have limpid memories most esp during the war, despite the long ( 8) decades past. Inch by inch, they can recall what happened during that dreadful event...the war. The impact was so great , it carried heavy loads not only to themselves but to their beloved families as well. I gazed at their faces as they tell the horrendous and nightmare of war...and they were spontaneous in revealing. I salute all the veterans...alive or gone who fought for LOVE OF COUNTRY.

The only way this country will ever understand the sacrifice, the lives that were lost, is to make it mandatory for everyone to serve 2 years military service. Most people today don’t even know the significance of D-Day, the location or what war we fought. They do not know anything about the greatest generation of or lifetime and what they did to protect democracy. Sadly these men and women are getting to the end. We will lose the most important generation and I pray that the legacy will be kept alive. So many young men and women died away from home. The current generation is all about the TikTok, apps, social media content. They are oblivious to the significance of these men sacrifice and what they had to go through just to survive. Semper FI.

Those who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it. Those who do not honor the memory of their ancestors are doomed to extinction.
The unconditional act of surrender was signed by Marshal of the USSR Georgy Zhukov on May 8, 1945 in the suburbs of Berlin and the witnesses were signed by the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Expeditionary Forces, Marshal Arthur Tedder (Great Britain), General K. Spaats (USA) and General J. de Lattre de Tassigny (France).

Those veterans also has great faith, American last Godly generation, endured so many difficulties. Not like now Western soldiers strong bodies, well equipped, nutritious, well training but mentally spiritually broken, they forgot God.
Very rarely WW2 veterans have PTSD, they fight more dangerous brutal and yet survive. So sad so many soldiers not even go to war and yet have ptsd.
