Your video gave me the confidence to try this on my Samsung RF268ABWP with the freezer on the bottom. The recommendation did not fix the problem but it put me on a path of discovery where the root problem was fixed. For starters, I took the sliding shelf out and removed the freezer door to help with access (4x 10mm bolts). I used a heat gun on low in the vent holes for a few minutes but there was no water draining. At that point I decided remove the back panel which is a white plastic panel with two screws. This required removing the ice maker which has two vertical screws. After pulling the panel the defect was obvious. There is a fan that screws to the panel and is positioned close to some molded styrofoam. The foam is porous and condensation infiltrated it. Freeze thaw cycling caused bulges in the foam which pressed against the fan. I sloppily shaved off the bulges with a razor blade and found ice inside. While reattaching the fan I noticed that one of the screws was not attached correctly and just went into the foam. This may have contributed to the fan vibration. I also opened up the access panel in the rear of the fridge and vacuumed out dust. There are two vertical tubes that deliver condensation to a catch tray. One of the tubes was partially blocked with rust and brown water so I cleaned it well. That probably contributed to the freezing styrofoam. After reassembling everything the freezer runs very quietly for the first time in years. Here are some photos of the disassembled freezer. You can see the bulges in the foam. photos.app.goo.gl/KV859vM23FeDnNvH6 photos.app.goo.gl/S3LhP5nhbxhnrhxv9 My messy cut job: photos.app.goo.gl/Bheyt44Pvmcq5zPaA It was tedious work but not that difficult if you are patient. The quiet is worth it.
After watching many videos and changing my search words, I finally stumbled on your video. Most only mentioned the noise and were typically professional repair folks that went right into the need of replacing the evaporator motor, for a few reasons. Because the noise was intermittent, I was not convinced. Noticing the noise returned when the ice bucket was full, I kept the ice level low. Then began the water collecting at the bottom of the freezer so I lowered the temperature in the frig. and freezer compartments. Finally, I went back on line to research and Bingo, your post, with the actual noise and you explained it could be ice build-up rather than a mechanical issue on the evaporator motor. My frig is old but in great condition as I have taken care of it but before seeing your video I had been debating on calling a repair person or just buy a new refrigerator on Black Friday. You sir, saved me hard earned money, Many Thanks and God Bless ! To assist others: My refrigerator is a 2003 Kenmore side by side w/ice maker - model 106.53584300
I had a similar problem and I did a "reset" of the fridge by touching simultaneously the "freezer" and "fridge" buttons on the front panel for a few seconds until the screen starting flashing numbers and then stop, since no number came up on this process, that means that no part is defective with the fridge.. I also reset the temperature of the "fridge" at 34 degrees, when set up at a higher temperature a lower noise would come up again so I brought the temperature down to 34 permanently. The noise went away for good, it has been a couple of months since I did this process, it worked for me. This procedure is also use to tell you if there is any bad part in the fridge, if a number shows up you would need to contact Samsung to order the replacement part. By the way my fridge model is RFG297HD. Good luck!.
It's July 2020 I'm here sending this comment all the way from South Africa. I don't even have a fridge like the one in the video but your tips have just saved me thousands of rands. Thank you so much and God bless.
Please accept gratitude from India 🙏🙏 Thank you very much for saving my hard earned money on repairs. Just followed your instructions and voila within 15 minutes my refrigerator started working as before. Thanks once again. 🙏🙏☺️☺️
I've been working from home in the dining room and our fridge has been driving me insane with rattling! Thank you for putting this video up. Sorted our issue out in less than a minute
Thanks buddy. I have a two year old Samsung refrigerator. A much different model than the one you show here but with the identical problem.Have had numerous calls to repair the ice maker and numerous calls to repair water leaking in to the interior of the unit.We are waiting on our third service call on the ice maker when this new issue arose.Started as a small vibrating noise off and on, turned into a loud non stop noise which you could hear all over the house.Couldn't wait for the repairman, so tried your remedy. It worked ! This expensive refrigerator is a piece of junk. I do appreciate your video which at least is giving us some peace and quiet for the moment.
Hello! Thanks so much for this video! I actually bought a replacement evaporator fan motor from Amazon (only $14), but didn't want to get into the wires to change it... Found this video, unplugged the fridge, took out all the freezer stuff (needed to be cleaned out anyway!) and used a hair dryer on those vents for 20 mins (being careful not to stay on one vent for too long). It's been 2 days, and no noise! I don't know how old the fridge is, as we just moved here 2 years ago. It hadn't made any noises until about a month ago. Hoping this will last another 2 yrs? If only lasts 6 months, then I'll just do this again and empty out the freezer :) thanks for this super helpful vid! 😊
Melting the ice only treats the symptom. Samsung's troubleshooting guide (quoted below) says you need to level the fridge so that the front is slightly higher than the back. Supposedly, this prevents condensation from pooling, freezing, and building up over time (where the fan hits it)--and, it allows the doors to open and close more easily. Doing this allows the condensation to drain properly and evaporate. I simply unplugged the fridge, pulled out the ice maker bin, and left the freezer door open for about an hour while watching a TV show (no hair dryer), then I wiped out the melted water, plugged-in the fridge, hit the reset button, replaced the bin, and voila! I just did this tonight and so far so good, but hopefully, this will solve my issue permanently. ----- From Samsung: If the refrigerator is making a noise that stops when the door is opened, this type of noise is caused by the fan inside the refrigerator impacting a buildup of ice. The exact type of noise can vary (whining, buzzing, grinding), but the one constant is that the noise stops when the door opens. The noise will typically resume a few moments after closing the door again. The main reason this noise occurs is because the refrigerator was not properly leveled. A properly leveled refrigerator will have the front of the refrigerator resting on the leveling legs and with the front wheels not in contact with the floor. This ensures a proper front-to-back slant so condensation within the refrigerator can drain away correctly to the evaporator. An improperly leveled refrigerator can cause condensation to pool up instead of drain away, and due to the freezing cold temperatures in the refrigerator, freeze up and cause a buildup of ice over time. Eventually the ice will build up so much that the fan begins to hit it, which causes the noise. To prevent this noise, as well as potential leak and cooling issues down the line, the refrigerator will need to be leveled correctly. This may reduce or eliminate the noise, either immediately or over a period of time. Instructions for leveling the refrigerator can be found in the user manual.
This is somewhat baloney. While the fridge should certainly be level as installed, ice should NOT build up enough to reach the cooling fan if the fridge is properly defrosting periodically. I have just had a fan stoppage in the freezer of a Samsung 22 cuft "cabinet depth" side by side that is less than 4 months old. It is obviously not completely defrosting the evaporator coils in the freezer. The fridge is located in the kitchen of an air-conditioned, thus de-humidified, house. The symptom is frost building up on food in the freezer and interior surfaces, which means that the fan was not running and circulating air, or the evaporator coil was frozen solid and blocked the flow, even though the compressor was cooling. After defrosting for a while with two external fans and a hair dryer, I can now hear the fan running (actually spinning down to a stop just after opening the door; it doesn't run with the door open). There is NO EXCUSE for this kind of design flaw in a major appliance, especially when Samsung has been experiencing similar problems for many years in various models of refrigerator. Clearly they are aware of these problems and simply ignoring addressing them in their designs. Clearly they are also not correctly measuring the temperature of the evaporator coils during a defrost cycle, to confirm that any built-up ice has been removed. The defrost cycle should not end and the compressor restarted until a temperature ABOVE the freezing point of water has been reached on the evaporator coil, which would indicate that all ice has melted from the coil; anything less and ice is going to gradually accumulate on the coil until air flow is blocked or the fan (if it is too close to the coil in the design) begins the strike the ice and makes noise and eventually stops turning. Either the design is flawed, the temperature sensor used is defective, the circuitry reading out the sensor is defective, the heater or its temperature overprotection is flawed, or these people simply don't know how to design a refrigerator. This kind of appliance should be problem-free for decades, not just for 4 months. Will not be buying another of this brand, even though WHEN it works correctly it is a nice fridge.
I couldn't agree more, the design is flawed... For the sake of an update to my original post. Since adjusting the level on our fridge, we have had no issues with fan noise. Sadly, this didn't fix the issue with water dripping from the ice maker... another design flaw. If only Apple would design a refrigerator. ;o) Y'all have fun with that one, but please realize it's just a joke--I look forward to your witty responses. Let me start... Hopefully, the Apple fridge would be more reliable than Siri.
Mark Archuleta ha! We’ve had a Samsung repair person out 4 times to “fix” the problem. He never once tried to level it differently. One time he tried to blame it on too much food in the freezer. 🙄
Crafty pup, LOL !!!! To much food in the freezer .... WHATA PUTZ. Sears told us it's $100 for the clown to show up and $250 AN HOUR FOR THE "REPAIR" ..... PLUS PARTS..... I'll wrench on it myself for that kind of money !! This 450 lb SILVER ELEPHANT will be the LAST Samsung product we by ..... put a fork in me and flip me over ... I"M DONE
I also bought a Samsung ref for $1600 about 3 yrs ago. a year into having this ref the same problem occurred. Fortunately, I had bestbuys' protection plan which was great and they came out and replaced all the malfunctioning parts. i thought i was good and let protection plan expire. unfortunately bad decision, a couple months after the same problem with both the ref and ice maker. this is by far the worst purchase besides the kitchen aide dish washer I purchased year ago. I wish I had done more research....and if you found this video like i did....trust the video it worked out for me with both ref and ice maker issues. thanks for doing the video.
Thank you very much for this helpful info. I defrosted mine 2 days ago for just under 30hrs. I let the ice defrost naturally as I was worried about holding a hair drier over the vents. The principle is the same though. In addition, I cleaned the vents at the back of the fridge too as they had clogged up with dust and dirt. Now the fridge is ticking like lock work again. I bought the samsung fridge freezer 2008 and this is the first time I have experienced this noise problem. Saved me a potential hefty engineer's bill.
RockNRoll is the only noise that we like to hear, and a toast with a cold beer from the fridge we both fixed with my how to's and tricks. Thanks for watching.
Let me say from the top that this video presentation is so very valuable. I have the same model Samsung model fridge. this awful sound have been going on for a over a week. This morning my wife was about to call Sears and I know it was probably going to cost an arm and a leg to have a service tech come out to the house. I decided to check RUclips first, and MAGIC i found this video an it worked. Thank you sooooo very much. No everyone on my Christmas list will indeed get their Christmas Presents. Happy Holidays!!!!!!!!!!
We bought our 450lb BOAT ANCHOR from Sears, how convenient that they are out of business...... worked great for 3 YEARS !! I guess we were REAL lucky ?? We bought this big beast saying it would be our last one when we bought our new home. Under warranty ?? REALLY .... good luck. Sears service gets $100 to come out and $250 a friggin hour to most likely do no better than us DIY'ers. One Sears repair guy even told me if I could do it myself I'd be better off. Lately I get closer to this thing than I do my beautiful wife. Nothing but aggravation .... ( the refrigerator ) ....... Now to try YOUR fix and see what happens ... Thank you for the video.
Worked for me too. Being having sleepless nights due to the noise. But having coming across this RUclips, everything is now ok. I really appreciate this information.
We bought a Samsung side by side two years ago.....Never again.....If you breathe on it to hard, it will dent. Just had the fan thing happen last week...Spent a LOT of money on a POS!!! Horrible experience and will never purchase an appliance made from this manufacturer THANK you so much for your post
My Samsung RS261MDWP had the same problem, fan noise from the freezer compartment was loud, this happened when we returned from a 4day vacation. I used the McCulloh steamer to remove the buildup of ice around fan, instead of a hair driver, as suggested here. This definitely fixed the fan noise completely. Thanks for this video, using a steamer is just an improvement, to melt the buildup quickly, and in the process clean the fridge.
Shit, all the input you provide is spot on and I agree with. Owning a steamer myself I did think of using it . I wanted to however demonstrate using a tool that every household has so your average Joe doesn't have to go out and buy a steamer to get the job done. Thanks Sheetal!
For anyone watching this so I did everything and ended up with the same issue a month later. So my issue was dust build up not allowing good airflow for the fridge to work properly unscrew back bottom panel and check if it’s real dusty vacuum and blow out carefully. (same thing happens when you don’t clean your AC for a while it becomes an ice cube) Thanks for the video!
This is a temporary fix due to a design flaw due in part of Samsung which is a reoccurring frost build up issue every few month's. One things that helped me do this process less is turning freezer setting a couple notches down where my food is still frozen but not all the way on highest setting. Thanks for watching and appreciate your input.👍
You rock, thanks so much! This is the first time in years we've ever had an issue with this fridge, looks like we've been lucky. Shaking it was getting me nowhere! Took maybe 30 minutes total, easily melted 1 1/2 to 2 cups of water. Quiet as a mouse now. Thank You! ~Ange
I did this and it lasted about 3 months. I am in the process of doing it again. This time, I ran the hair dryer for about 20 min and kind of hit on the back wall and could hear the ice dropping. I pulled off the lower panel with 6 screws and got several large chunks to come out. I am going to leave it off over night. Have a Frigidaire from 2000 that works great as a backup in our garage. I contacted Samsung, yes go ahead and laugh and gave them a piece of my mind about their product. Will never buy Samsung again. Thanks for this video,it was helpful. Update: This morning, I attempted to reattach the back panel and for the life of me, I could not get the top screws to reattach. If I had the panel off, no issue getting the screws to attach so I am thinking the "anchor" for the screw may have been messed up and I need a longer screw when the panel is in place. I had it off for 12 hours and used the hair dryer to speed up the process. It is now running and cooling but the compressor is louder then before, making a clicking noise. The 24 year old Frigidaire in garage is packed full of items and working great. Maybe time to go buy another Frigidaire.
Are you still having trouble? I found the solution for my rs25h5111sr/aa. Praise the Lord! My fridge was only two years old and ready for the dump. FIRST: ALWAYS UNPLUG your unit BEFORE you attempt to blow dry or repair! I took off the back panel and tested the condenser fan motor. Nothing was wrong with it, so I adjusted the fan blade so that it would spin freely! The blade was set too deeply into the motor. This caused it to work for a while after thawing but eventually led to it refreezing. All I had to do was gently pull up on the blades so that it set up higher on the shaft! Such a simple fix!!! (Even Samsung repairmen were LOST as to what to do, and others refuse to work on Samsung!) Next I used the blow dryer directly on the coils and into the bottom drain. It’s super important to use towels to dry up as much water as possible then blow dry one more time removing all (as much as possible) moisture from the cabin. After this, reinstall the back panel. You can find other videos to help you uninstall the back panel, uninstall the fan motor, set the blade, and reinstall. Instead of a short term solution, this should help fix the problem if it’s a fan issue, which from what repairman stated, it usually is.
I have had three samsung refrigerators. The two previous refrigerators were more expensive than my current one. I did not have any problems with the older ones, but the new one has this problem which has been going on for a few months. Thanks for this information; it is very helpful.
Hi sir I looked up how to stop a noise on a refrigerator and it made noise like yours did ,I have a different type of refrigerator the top was frozen so when I saw your video I tried it and it worked great , I didn't have to wait hours for it to defrost or pay someone to defrost it , your video helped alot thank you for your help. God bless you.
Alice, so glad to hear that my method worked for your refrigerator as well. Appreciate your blessings, help me hit my 100k subscriber goal by subscribing for more future How To's.
My Samsung fridge stopped getting cold I vacuumed coils on back still not cold opened fridge saw ice coming from vent on rear inside, also wheels were on floor just like their not supposed to be! Thanks for the vid yours is the only one I've watched that pointed out leveling that could be the Key, Good job👍
Hey thank you for this video. My fridge was making that noise and I was really getting concerned thought it would eventually stop working. I work from home so it was getting louder by the day and couldn’t concentrate. Thanks so much. I did as you showed and now my fridge is quiet.
My Samsung was making this noise too. I used the blow dryer like you said and it's quiet finally! Thank you!!! My frig is the model with the freezer on the bottom and I get Ice under my crisper drawers so I have to defrost that part also. I will never buy another Samsung refrigerator again!
I have a 5 yr old side by side and it has been making noise for 2 months. I used a hair dryer and for 30 minutes blew hot air into each of the vents in the back of the inside of the frig. ie about 5-6 minutes into each of the vents. Did this 2 days ago and frig is still NOT making the noise. Again, all I did was blow the hot air into each of the vents and so far as solved the problem. Frig is not making any noise now !!!!
Thank you! Thank you!!! My fridge was making a loud humming sound. I found your video and that was exactly the problem! There was a huge ice build up! How did I not notice! It took 4 hours for the ice to melt... even using a hair dryer to move it along! You saved me a repair bill! I can't figure out where all that melted ice went? Where's the puddle of water?
Thank you for posting this video. I was thinking the same like It gotta be a different way to defrost the ice ,that you can clearly see in the refrigerator and not taken out a part like some other videos …not saying it don’t do it that way but there’s so much more work and a good chance to break parts inside the refrigerator with a little bit of being careful, not to melt the plastic with a hairdryer and maybe leaving it overnight not being plugged in. Thank you again.
I own the french door model, RF24FSEDBSR/AA, so it has a slightly different ice maker, but it worked! There was a build up of ice in the back of the unit... once I melted the ice with the blow dryer, the noise was gone. Thanks for the video.
To add further details, use the high fan speed and warm heat setting on the hair dryer; do not use a heat gun as it is designed to melt plastic. The 6 holes at the top give them 30 sec each, the next two holes sort of half way do for a minute. The next two or four holes do for 2 min each. The bottom 2 vents and the bottom hole do for 3 min each. Do a full treatment every 6 months or year if you follow the monthly bottom hole defrost regime. Do the bottom hole and bottom vents monthly ( if humming sounds bother you trying to fall asleep, otherwise every two months) since these are nearest to the fan and compressor and where build up is most likely. Finally treat each hole and vent with an air compressor on a yearly basis. Next use acoustic paneling at least 1" thick on all sides of the walls the fridge goes in; hopefully the opening can accommodate this. At night turn off the ice. Between all of this, you cannot make your Samsung fridge quieter. Btw, after treatment allow the fridge to rest for a minimum of 5 minutes before plugging it back in. The ideal freezer and fridge temperature is -19 celcius for freezer and 2 degrees celcius for fridge. This gives the best balance of frozen ice cream and keeping produce fresh while not wasting too much electricity. Setting the freezer to lower temperature will expedite ice build up.
I went one further emptying the fridge and removing the back panel. There was so much ice that even using a blow drying it took an hour to melt it all. Even so, the ice (and buzzing noise) was back a month later. I'm doing it all again today. Poor design where one needs to use defrost mode Fd (fridge defrost) once a week just to keep the ice at bay. Thanks for sharing.
Worked for me! I just zapped all the vents top and bottom with the blow dryer for about 5/6 minutes. I also took off the bottom grid and vacuumed all the dust out as well as in the back. Works like a charm now!
Thank you for pointing me to the source of the noise. In my case (also Samsung brand slightly different model), I had not used the ice/water dispenser for a few months, but all I did was to dispense 2 glasses of ice , and it became quiet immediately.
Thank you so much for this informative video. I used this same technique on a Frigidare model and it worked just fine after about 20mins. It seems we had too much frozen food pushed up against the back side of the freezer wall which caused the ice build-up.
Thanks for this info & tip ! We are definitely going to try this .We purchased all Samsung appliances while our home was being built . What a mistake that was !!!!! We are definitely not trying to replace a refrigerator & Definetly not anything by Samsung !!! Appliances should definitely last longer than 6 years. Samsung products look good, but they don't hold up ! Within 6 years we've replaced the microwave, dishwasher, had a refrigerator part replaced, part replaced on the stove ,in addition the stove door can't be cleaned unless you remove the door because dust gets inside between the glass making it impossible to clean. Now the refrigerator is making this annoying noise! Really !!! We are definitely done with Samsung !!!!Between the service call , parts , & repair its just not worth it !! As their appliances fail we're replacing them with a much more reliable brand ! Hopefully for the money we'll get more than 6 years out of them. Buyer Beware of Samsung !
Thank you. We purchased a house which came with a Samsung fridge, model RB215LASH, and the freezer portion quit freezing and then the noise started. We are in the process of melting a ton of ice off the various vents and walls. I thought a fan motor or compressor might be giving out. Glad it's just a frosting issue. I am also going to adjust the level to keep the front a little higher than the back and see if the ice comes back.
## MUST READ PROBLEM FIXED ## I've had this noise , when you open the door it stops . I stripped the back panels off inside the freezer to expose the fan . On the back off the white panel that covers the fan that's where your problem is . There is a layer off grey foam stuck to the back off the panel and eventually the water gets into the foam freezes and expands then the foam slightly rubs the fan making the noise . I tried the hairdryer trick but it's only a temporary fix . Unless you remove this foam it will continue to rub . I defrosted for 48 hours 2 or 3 times before I decided to look into it further before I just brought the fridge freezer to the dump . Now it works fine with no noise .
So happy I could help Sandra, consider subscribing so you can stay on top of all my current & upcoming how to videos which will save you $$$$$$$ for other sticky situations.👍
Thank you!!!!!! Just tried it on my Samsung and it seems to have worked. There was this odd block of ice that fell on the floor. Looks like it may have been frozen around something and is pretty suspicious. It’s not chattering anymore now and hope it stays that way. If it doesn’t I’ll hit it again lol🤘🏽💪🏽😎
Fridge noise - :( Compressor? Google search, found this video - sound in the beginning was in total sync with my fridge sound! Though a different model, followed what you did and wala! Awesome video. Thank you!! (How have I lived so long without you tube?)
Thanks! I was about to purchase a new fan motor for my Kenmore Elite but defrosting the unit solved the problem! It took 4 coolers and some dry ice and 24 hrs. Much faster and less frustrating than changing out parts that still work. Bad design on Kenmore's part
If he had gone just a couple of steps further, he could have replaced the part that I replaced that fix it! I'm so proud of myself, because I am 60 years old this year, I am disabled, after a 21 year marriage, my husband strayed, and we were just divorced last month, actually not finalized yet, and I was left totally alone to start my life all over again all by myself. Being disabled, I'm on a fixed income, and I could not afford a service technician, and I sure could not afford a new refrigerator. This one is not but 4 or 5 years old! Every time I searched for my model number, I kept finding alot of RS267 videoes and info, but they are different from mu RS261! But, I persevered, and I fixed my freezer and refrigerator, that both went out at the same time, for ONLY $9.50! I am so proud of myself!! I got so frustrated, because every time I called Samsung, Sears, the service center that Samsung uses, and several other places, and I told them I had already done all of the work, and I just had one simple question, but NOT ONE of them would answer a single, solitary, easy question! They would not let me talk to a technician, and they would only schedule a technician to come out to my home! I'm ngot stupid. I know that the cost of the $9.50 part would have been tripled, and I know how many hours it took me to take it apart, but they could have done it in less time, however they would have had to wait 2 days for all of the ice to defrost before they can finish it! So, let that up just to come out here would be $75, the part about $30, and labor is generally more than triple the cost of parts. With this part only been $30, in their eyes, there's no way they were just going to just charge me $90 for what I had to do in that freezer. But, regardless, it is simple. If you do it right, it will take a couple of days to let it completely defrost, and behind the bottom panel, he's referring to a fan, but there's actually a heater coil that completely insane some consumes the majority of the space behind the back panel. Behind the talk panel, yes there is a saying that stands, and that fan is actually what cools your refrigerator. This little sensor tells that heating coil when to come on to keep your freezer from freezing up. When you hear that grinding noise, you know it's starting to freeze up. So, Tell me what I should name my video, and I will get started on it tomorrow. I hope you all come and watch it! I will give you some tidbits on things to make it easier on you when taking things apart, and a few more pieces of information he didn't give you in this video. I'll take mine back out and walk you through it step-by-step. And, this is extremely cheap plastic inside this freezer and refrigerator! But, I have my freezer set on three bars, my refrigerator on three bars, not all the way up to six bars, and they are both freezing and cooling fantastically!. More than it ever has. These sensors are a known issue with this 261 model and the 267 model, and several other Samsung models, and it has been a long-standing problem that this particular sensor seems to go out quite frequently. It would be to your best interest to figure out how to fix it yourself! Everybody I've talked to since they threw those away! I was encouraged to junk it! And said it would be easier for me to go buy a new one!. But, they won't fix it!! I am just so proud of myself! So, since I had a hard time finding a video about my model, and because I am a disabled female, have to do things by myself, because I have no help, I decided to make this video to help many other people out there, and if I could just help one disabled female that is alone and has no help, then my video will be worth it, especially if it saves her anywhere between $10 and $500!. Please give me ideas on what to name it, and tags so that it will be easier for people to find? I would appreciate it! Although I have already put my part in, and it is working, I have not yet put everything back in it, so I am going to show you what you have to do to safely disassemble it in order to get to the part, how to replace it, and how to put things back together. Anyone that can turn a screwdriver can do this! Although Brandy's Studio, hi, I'm Brandi! Is more of an art Channel, this video is definitely going up on that channel for everyone to see it! It will be the first time everyone in my art circles will get to see my face! I've got a few more little tidbits that nobody ever seems to put in these videos, and it's very important for you to remember to do when you're disassembly anyting! Let me know if you're interested in watching. :-)
Just saw your video. My Samsung is doing the same thing...Very very annoying. I will first try to reset it, if that doesn’t work I will buy a cheap hair dryer from Walmart. This refrigerator was expensive. Should not be doing this. Thanks for posting this video.
So I don’t have a samsung fridge but watched your video to try and fix mine which was doing the same sound. I impatiently did the hairdryer thing for probably not long enough. Fired the fridge back up and the sound was still there but different. I ended up grabbing the vent nearest the sound in the freezer and pulled it out just enough to stop the sound. When I released it the sound came back. I then pulled hard enough on the panel that there was a small pop. The sound stopped. It hasn’t come back in multiple days which caused me to think about how packed full the freezer was and that there might be a possibility that the contents had been pushed up against the back wall enough to push the wall toward the fan behind the wall. I think that by pulling it out it may have undone this. May be another kind of fix for others reading this.
Just want to add another “thank you so much for this” comment. My freezer was also a little harder to unstick, but it did eventually give and it works fine now. I will say, in case it wasn’t clear what “pull it out” means, you need to pull the rail towards you. The video makes it seem like you have to pull up a bit.
Hey thanks for the video, it was very very helpful, I didn't open the back, but I defrosted it over night,I mean I unplugged it, and it works perfectly now.....it is better than before.....
My Samsung refrigerator twin cooling fan made loud grinding noise on and off. Once it stopped, my fridge began leaking. I will try your method before calling a technician. Thank you
That is really great advise.....but it's sad that Samsung has made a defective product....you shouldn't have to do a thing to a refrigerator that you paid over 1k for! Same on you SAMSUNG! JUNK!
It’s not defective. It’s bad advice from Samsung by not telling their customers to avoid this problem by raising the legs in the front of the fridge about a half inch. That’s the fix for this issue. Defrost the fridge and then raise it
Thanks for your video. I have a slightly different model Samsung but after watching your post I was able to find the area and figure out the problem. Thanks a bunch!!! It's back on and quiet again :)
This is not a long term solution but I will provide one. I believe the cause of this issue is moisture entering the fridge (warm room air) from poor seals. Over time the design of the French door fridge lends to seal issues. Once the moist warm air enters the fridge, it condenses on the evaporator and in other spots. On my fridge, I have noticed condensation leak out when you fill your glass with water or ice from the dispenser. The long term fix is to help the fridge defrost the evaporator. I increased the fridge temperature from 36 to 40 deg F and problem has not returned. I have tried many things and defrosted the fridge 3-4 times. Today I checked the evaporator (removing all components like this video) and NO ICE buildup whatsoever after 2 months. I also kept the freezer at 0 deg F and turned the meat drawer to a lower temp to better preserve more vulnerable food (meat, cheese, etc.) Regarding seal issues, for now I think they are minor leaks. It's hard to tell where the seal issue is. It could be where the door meets the dispenser (hole for ice to shoot through inside door), door perimeter or back panel where piping/electrical penetrates. Regardless the temperature increase has fixed the ice buildup. I do not think raising the wheels or doing a forced defrost are long term solutions. These are suggested on other videos. Hope this helps!
364k views. Wow - says something about refrigerator quality! Tried this on my GE fridge and it appears to have worked. Just finished a few minutes ago and when we closed the door the sound came right back. Despair! Then about 1 minute later the sound stopped. We'll see how it sounds tomorrow! Thanks for probably saving me a service call!
The Samsung fridge have a problem with the defrost heater drain icing up. The simple solution is to take the back covers off, melt any ice buildup. Now take a length of copper wirewrap it around the heater coil and poke the other end into the drain or just above the drain hole. Thise will transfer from the heater down the copper wire to melt the ice in the future.
Contacted Samsung and they basically said you are out of warranty and we have no programs to cover you. You will have to pay yourself to have it fixed. I will not be buying anything Samsung again.
Samsung makes great electronics but needs to stay away from large appliances. Their fridges suck. mine was repaired at the control board 3 times before it went out of warranty
I tried the hair dryer solution, however even with moving hair dry around frequently the plastic was getting very hot. Brought a floor fan out and had the air circulating in freezer while using the hair dryer, this kept the plastic components relatively cooler and still removed the ice build up. Looking good for now, hope this solved our problem for good. And of course the fridge is out of warranty by like 5 days.
Don’t thank him right away. The problem will persist unless you thaw the fridge completely AND thaw out the drain hole which this man didn’t advise you to do. That blocked drain hole is what caused this problem. Another thing you should do is after the complete thaw you should raise the front of the fridge by about a half inch. Leaning it back will cause the doors to close better and when the fridge goes into auto defrost the melted ice will flow better into the drain. Trust me I had this problem and what I’m advising is a permanent fix.
You're welcome, keep in mind that this is not a permanent fix because you will have to do this again when the ice builds up. Thanks for watching and appreciate your feedback.
So thankful that you posted this. Mine was doing that exact noise. Did the technique and now it's quiet as a mouse 😄 yea I might have done it at an inconvenient hour of the morning but I couldn't sleep til that noise stopped
I think this is my problem too… my ice maker just freezes up so ive left it off… but I’m assuming it some how continued to freeze up and is now blocking some of these vents (not my model btw). My ice maker is off and I can hear noise coming from the ice maker area of the fridge.. condenser coils are clean, fan and compressor run amazingly quiet… I’m gonna assume this is the problem….
For those whose Samsung fridge is making noise due to the refrigerator fan blades hitting an ice build-up, here is an easy but temporary fix (temporary, since it treats only the symptom of Samsung's flawed design, rather than the cause). You don't need to remove food or even open the fridge, but it only works for those models with the right kind of front control panel: Simultaneously press "Freezer" and "Lighting" on front panel of fridge and hold (8 seconds on my fridge) until it beeps. Release, and press "Freezer" repeatedly (three times for my model) until it displays "rd" (rear defrost). This manually activates the rear defroster, and your fridge will beep annoyingly for awhile (about 27 minutes on my fridge). I usually repeat this process 4-6 times in a row, setting my phone timer for 27 minutes to keep reminding me to go and restart it. This fix usually lasts me a couple of weeks. If you remember to do it frequently, on a preventative basis--say, before going to work or to bed, you may stay ahead of the problem.
Our water line in this fridge is so sllllooowwww. Is yours? And thanks for the video, the freezer just started making noise so in going to do this asap!
Problem- free Samsung for 5 years or so. Power outage for 3 days few months ago. 1/4" ice sheet built up under crisper drawer. Presume it accumulated near fan also, hence noise. Will soon be pulling inside rear panel to defrost by hot water. Also, attach short copper wire from heater element down tube a few inches to prevent ice there. Fingers crossed. Thx.
Will this stop if the Ice Maker is turned off? I went against my better judgement and bought another refrigerator with an ice maker because I didn't want to special order one. Outside of the crappy ice maker, I love my Samsung refrigerator/freezer so I would like to see if this could be solved by turning off or removing the ice maker. UGH, the quality of products vs. the price these days. SMH
need to check your level as well, front wheels should not be touching the floor, once wheels are off the floor now check level from left to right. Condensation needs to drain correctly. Hope this helps
Thank you for letting us hear the noise sound first before showing us how to fix the problem. 😃

It was tedious work but not that difficult if you are patient.
Hey! Thank you so much for this video, people who upload vids for specific make/model problems are the real MVPs of the internet!
Good luck!.
Thank you!!!
Thank You this solution helped me with that horrible noise . And delivering me from the hell of a loud refrigerator.
Thank You Again
It's July 2020 I'm here sending this comment all the way from South Africa. I don't even have a fridge like the one in the video but your tips have just saved me thousands of rands. Thank you so much and God bless.
My pleasure, thank you for watching. Please consider subscribing because it would help me out a lot.👍
Please accept gratitude from India 🙏🙏
Thank you very much for saving my hard earned money on repairs. Just followed your instructions and voila within 15 minutes my refrigerator started working as before. Thanks once again. 🙏🙏☺️☺️
So glad to help, thank you for watching.👍
I've been working from home in the dining room and our fridge has been driving me insane with rattling! Thank you for putting this video up. Sorted our issue out in less than a minute
Awesome Sauce👍💪👌👊
In the interior is it leaking water under the crisper?? This "nice" refrigerator is driving me bonkers!
Thanks for the feedback, I repeat the process every few months.👍

From Samsung:
If the refrigerator is making a noise that stops when the door is opened, this type of noise is caused by the fan inside the refrigerator impacting a buildup of ice.
Saved me a potential hefty engineer's bill.
where does the water go when you defrost? I don't want it on the floor though.
to the drain pan under the fridge but if you defrosting your fridge drain pan might over flow
I just tried this on my fridge and it worked, it was making a really loud noise. Much thanks to you.
I was about to call a Samsung technician. Thank you for sharing this knowledge with us. It worked !!
Worked for me too.
Being having sleepless nights due to the noise. But having coming across this RUclips, everything is now ok.
I really appreciate this information.
👌👍👌👍👌👍👌👍
We bought a Samsung side by side two years ago.....Never again.....If you breathe on it to hard, it will dent. Just had the fan thing happen last week...Spent a LOT of money on a POS!!!
Horrible experience and will never purchase an appliance made from this manufacturer
THANK you so much for your post
Worked on my different model Samsung! Was about to spend money that I didnt even need to. Thank you so much for making this video!
Glad that I could help, Thanks for watching.
Yes, this problem is across many models. My next fridge wont be a Samsung.
Appreciate your feedback.👍
@@Megalodon1 Samsung will not help us, so thank you for posting this to help me out.
(Even Samsung repairmen were LOST as to what to do, and others refuse to work on Samsung!)
Next I used the blow dryer directly on the coils and into the bottom drain.
IknowGodIs haven’t had ours 6 months and it’s making this darn noise
We had the same noise occur on our 10-year-old Samsung. We tried your technique and it did the trick. Thanks!
Awesome sauce👍
I have had three samsung refrigerators. The two previous refrigerators were more expensive than my current one. I did not have any problems with the older ones, but the new one has this problem which has been going on for a few months. Thanks for this information; it is very helpful.
Wow. Having same problem with my Samsung Refrigerator. Did this trick for one minute and no more noise. Thank you very much.
My Samsung fridge just started making the exact same noise. Soon as I get a chance, I'll try this solution. Thanks for the tip.
This is the second Samsung side-by-side that's done this. Thanks for the video,
Hey thank you for this video. My fridge was making that noise and I was really getting concerned thought it would eventually stop working. I work from home so it was getting louder by the day and couldn’t concentrate. Thanks so much. I did as you showed and now my fridge is quiet.
Glad to help Julliet, you too can help me out by subscribing . 👍
My Samsung was making this noise too. I used the blow dryer like you said and it's quiet finally! Thank you!!! My frig is the model with the freezer on the bottom and I get Ice under my crisper drawers so I have to defrost that part also. I will never buy another Samsung refrigerator again!
💪👍👌
Hey hey. There will be more easy way to make that noice gone. Theres secret function at the panel and you can make it defrost itself.
Brinley Hocutt wow
Liz Peterson you learned your lesson the hard way it sounds like. What attracted so !any of you to this video I can't say.
Great video. Saved me a hundred bucks and stopped the aggravation from the tortuous annoying fan noise
The melted ice water drips out the little vents, that's why I had down a couple of towels to soak up the water.
Just started having this noise and we did the blow dryer. Wow. Thank you. Saved us a repair call.
That's awesome Monica, glad I was able to help out. Feel free to subscribe for a whole lot more money saving tips in the future. Thanks for watching.
I really appreciate everything everyone has suggested to help. To bad SAMSUNG isn't this helpful ...... grrrrr
My pleasure, thanks for watching.
Just had a power outage for two hours. Same thing happened to my Maytag. I was thinking this was the fix then I can across your video. It worked.
I own the french door model, RF24FSEDBSR/AA, so it has a slightly different ice maker, but it worked! There was a build up of ice in the back of the unit... once I melted the ice with the blow dryer, the noise was gone. Thanks for the video.
Good to hear, thanks for watching.
Setting the freezer to lower temperature will expedite ice build up.
if this fix works, you are a genius...I was just looking at new fridges since I thought the thing was going out...thanks!!!
Just finished with the blow dryer and it worked!!!!! Thank you for putting the video on You Tube!
You bet! Thanks for watching.
Did you follow a video to remove the panel? I’m attempting the same task as we speak.
Worked for me! I just zapped all the vents top and bottom with the blow dryer for about 5/6 minutes. I also took off the bottom grid and vacuumed all the dust out as well as in the back. Works like a charm now!
LeAnn Sink, Realtor® Great to hear Ma'am, thanks for your vote of confidence.
## MUST READ PROBLEM FIXED ##
I've had this noise , when you open the door it stops .
Thanks so much for you help save me for spending money for a appliance repair company 😊
I was about to buy a new fridge, but it worked. Thank you!!!
Glad to hear, thanks for watching.👍
I can't believe how well that worked. I used a heat gun within ten minutes of heat the sound was gone! Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for that.Quite a bad continuous clicking which has stopped having defrosted the fridge freezer over night.Much quieter too. Thanks again!
I have had a lot of trouble finding someone to work on my Samsung as well! Thanks for the tip - I am anxious to give it a try.
This is still working in 2020! Thanks so much for the video.
Fridge noise - :( Compressor? Google search, found this video - sound in the beginning was in total sync with my fridge sound! Though a different model, followed what you did and wala! Awesome video. Thank you!! (How have I lived so long without you tube?)
Glad to hear that I was able to help, thank you for watching.👍
Thanks! I was about to purchase a new fan motor for my Kenmore Elite but defrosting the unit solved the problem! It took 4 coolers and some dry ice and 24 hrs. Much faster and less frustrating than changing out parts that still work. Bad design on Kenmore's part
My man, save me a lot of work. Much appreciated
Glad I could help, you can help me out by subscribing to my channel.👍
If it happens again, see my comment regarding a possible more permanent fix. Samsung refrigerators-ugh!
It seems that you never made the video. What a shame. Would’ve been so helpful. I have the same model as yours and am currently taking it apart.
Just saw your video. My Samsung is doing the same thing...Very very annoying. I will first try to reset it, if that doesn’t work I will buy a cheap hair dryer from Walmart. This refrigerator was expensive. Should not be doing this. Thanks for posting this video.
You're welcome, thank you for watching.

I used a small handheld steamer, and it has been quiet for the pass 8 hours. Thanks again for the video.
Your are an angel of mercy. I did this and it worked. I can't thank you enough. Awesome!
This worked like a charm! Thanks for posting this video. You saved me a ton of money on a repair bill
Saving money is what I do, replicating my actions will also bring you satisfaction.
JUNK!
My thoughts exactly
It’s not defective. It’s bad advice from Samsung by not telling their customers to avoid this problem by raising the legs in the front of the fridge about a half inch. That’s the fix for this issue. Defrost the fridge and then raise it
Thanks!! Have the same fridge and it sounds like a tractor.. gonna do this tomorrow!!
Awesome, come back and let us know how happy you are from the results.👍
I also kept the freezer at 0 deg F and turned the meat drawer to a lower temp to better preserve more vulnerable food (meat, cheese, etc.)
Regarding seal issues, for now I think they are minor leaks.
Thank you for your show.
Samsung doesn't stand behind their products and the service is the absolute worst.
Just what I have grown to expect from this garbage producing company.
Same here I bought Samsung appliances and they are garbage I’ll NEVER buy anything Samsung again!
Samsung makes great electronics but needs to stay away from large appliances. Their fridges suck. mine was repaired at the control board 3 times before it went out of warranty
Same! Never again! I bought my Samsung fridge 3 years ago and already doing this noisy shit!
Thank you for posting this, had the exact same problem and now the noise is gone!
Bison, helped you knock out the problem like Mike Tyson!!!
Thank you, excellent solution!, lo pude arreglar con este metodo en menos de 10 minutos. Muchas gracias!
You're welcome, keep in mind that this is not a permanent fix because you will have to do this again when the ice builds up. Thanks for watching and appreciate your feedback.
Thank you for your video. It’s an alternative than open the panel.
So thankful that you posted this. Mine was doing that exact noise. Did the technique and now it's quiet as a mouse 😄 yea I might have done it at an inconvenient hour of the morning but I couldn't sleep til that noise stopped
So glad to hear that can get your beauty sleep again and dream about your hero who saved the day, I mean night.😀
Thank you for this tip. What I thought would be a fan repair for a few hundred bucks was a simple ten minute fix.
You just saved my life!! Thank you 🙏
You got it.👍
I think this is my problem too… my ice maker just freezes up so ive left it off… but I’m assuming it some how continued to freeze up and is now blocking some of these vents (not my model btw). My ice maker is off and I can hear noise coming from the ice maker area of the fridge.. condenser coils are clean, fan and compressor run amazingly quiet… I’m gonna assume this is the problem….
Is this accessible from the back? Couldn't you rig it with a fishtank warmer or something along those lines to make furture defrosting easier?
I haven't noticed my water being slow. Have you checked if there might be a kink in the water line supply hose?
Agree - amazing advice! Was just about to call out an engineer! Not the same model and still worked! Thank you
Glad to help, appreciate your feedback and thanks for watching.👍
Problem- free Samsung for 5 years or so. Power outage for 3 days few months ago. 1/4" ice sheet built up under crisper drawer. Presume it accumulated near fan also, hence noise. Will soon be pulling inside rear panel to defrost by hot water. Also, attach short copper wire from heater element down tube a few inches to prevent ice there. Fingers crossed. Thx.
It's worked for me..... Thank you very much 😄😄
Thanks, this did the trick! You saved me a bunch of money on a service call.
how long would it take for the ice to melt if the fridge is unplugged?
awesome. worked for my samsung RF263TE also, although it has a smaller ice maker area. thanks so much!
Worked like a charm on my Frigidaire. Thanks!
SMH
Worked a treat, thanks a bunch 😎
Sure thing👍
This did the trick. Thank you.
Awesome Sauce👍
Thank you this help me out alot.. it wasn't the same fridge either and it work
You bet!!!
need to check your level as well, front wheels should not be touching the floor, once wheels are off the floor now check level from left to right. Condensation needs to drain correctly. Hope this helps
What must be the right measurement for leveling the the fridge freezer? Pls reply. Thanks.
Look at your manual that came with your refg.
Besides the noise ... does this cause the refrigerator to stop cooling the top part? Freezer seems fine. But it’s not cooling on the refrigerator side
Mine is thankfully still cooling, that seems like a seperate issue.
