I was watching this prior to purchasing the paid version on marketplace just to see how the quality was before committing and HOLY. I've been learning unreal after work and on the weekends whenever I find time (mostly as a fun little passion project) and while I've spent the past few months toying around with misc tools and assets nothing even seems to compare to what you've accomplished with this. Most certainly look forward to using.
Will you show how to create a new level from scratch (not designwise, just how to add a new simple level) and implement some of the horror engine features? Maybe just make a new level with a floor, add a wall and a lightswitch and connect the switch to a lamp? This would be so cool and helpful! This has to be one of the most descriptive and helpful tutorial videos i've seen in a while - you're literally going through EVERYTHING and it's a literal godsend.
Cool man! I actually managed to figure it out, and so much more - it isn't that hard actually. I kinda have a problem though where if I'm using the Pointlight blueprint, if I move close to the source right under the lamp the light on the walls start moving and looking weird. Some weird interaction with lumen I would assume and I can't manage to make it look good...
This was an awesome video, thank you so much for starting this series! One request; I had hoped that in this video you would show us how to extend the equipment settings (for example if we wanted to add more types of weapons or a cellphone). Maybe for a future video :)
Superb work... this is an absolutely stunning piece of software. I'm new to Unreal Engine ( Unity has been my friend for long time ) and I hope this engine will help to learn. In my opinion this asset must be at 60-80 $, considering the quality.
I always look forward to these videos. So glad you decided to start a tutorial series. Horror Engine is a game changer for us new to Unreal Engine. You've included so many cool features and all for free. I've played some cool games that used your kit and you've inspired many to pursue their dreams of creating their own horror games. Thanks for your efforts so far and look forward to what's to come. Exciting times ahead!
Thank you for your kind comment. It's an honor to see that the community finds my work useful. And it's thanks to motivating feedback like this that I'm able to achieve all this and continue.
I got this template a long time ago. I'm really confused about how to use it. all I did was edit the Overview maps. Shift some of the existing objects and create a room from there. This is my first time using unreal engine and this tutorial really helped me. Because there are many templates out there that don't explain at all how to use them.
This is very helpful, I was actually having trouble locating the settings myself but I think that’s just due to my beginner knowledge. But regardless, really huge thanks for this. Keep it up as I would like to learn more from these. You’re absolutely amazing! Much love and respect.
Это очень классно, надеюсь будет больше туториалов с horror engine. Я жду туториалы по интро в игре, про создание новой карты так, что бы карта не сломала весь проект, по событиям, субтитрам и многое другое)
I think a cool addition to HE would be like an AI enemy character template, as HE's main selling point is that it's meant for beginners to make horror games without code, and well what's a horror game without enemy AI? Making AI could be quite tricky, especially for beginners who are your main customers. Just a lil' suggestion for ya! Nice asset either way, been using for a little while now, keep it up!
Thank you for your constructive criticism and suggestions. Horror Engine didn't even have save game support in the beginning, but it has evolved over time to what it is now. Even though it doesn't have AI yet, it has a lot of features and is a great help for beginners and even experienced developers. There are also a lot of quality horror games that use only environmental elements and no AI. But of course in the future, with enough time and support, I hope to take the project to a much higher level.
I've wanted it myself, but, for now there's a tutorial series by a channel called Matt Asplained (I think that's the right name) that teaches how to make a decent AI using only BPs. I used his guide for my most recent game and he taught it well enough, I thought anyway, that I felt comfortable diverging from his instructions in a couple places to make the AI fit what I needed better. Until HE has it's own that might be worth checking out for you and others. ^.^
This tutorial is very helpful and your engine is amazing I hope that you continue sharing as I am one of many very grateful people making very good use of you're beautiful work.
Thank you once again for sharing this clear and detail explanation of your horror engine. I have sub and hope to see more of your tutorial series on this 👍
I'm glad you like it. Horror Engine is designed as a first person project and my first priority is to guide you through all the features it already has. However, there are some developers who combine Horror Engine with ALS. I haven't tried it yet, but I've seen videos on RUclips explaining how to do it. You can check them out if you like.
Hello. Firstly, congrats for the Horror Engine! It would be a nice tutorial if you show us how to change the meshes that appears in the hand of the player like flashlight, torch etc. Also, a deep explanation of the inventory system is a good idea and how to change the appearance of it. Keep up with the tutorial and thanks a lot.
Of course. We will delve much deeper in future videos. Since we're still in the early stages, I'm taking it slow to avoid confusing beginners. Glad to hear you like the Horror Engine. Thanks for the feedback.
one of the coolest features in this project is how it handles footsteps. But what if the footwear you are wearing is steel toe based vs. rubber soles, or even barefoot? How would you handle this physics ?
Would it be possible to get a tutorial on the Pistol item specifically? I am having trouble changing the model and adding bullet damage. It would be really helpful if there was a way to add multiple weapons (pistol, shotgun, rifle, ect) and a demonstration on how to add damage values to the weapons and how to inflict damage on enemies like the ghost or a zombie
1000 thank you for this tutorial series! Now bummed we didn't pick up the assets we'd earmarked for our game, that we didn't buy during the big sale because we figured it would be a while before we could figure out how to even customize the engine for the project. Wait for the next sales after we got a hold on this Horror Engine... That's all okay! We did not expect this tutorial, simply being thankful HR is free to use. But, here we are! More thousands of thanks!
i am only a littlebit struggling how to figure out how to use elements from this kit into a own project how exactly do i transfer certain elements over to a own project?
Man, your work is great! I currently develop my own game about Urban Exploration using HE. It would be nice if you add some animations to it, ability to drive a car for example.
love these you are changing the game fr, a quick question what might be a good way to begin learning how to create a game with this how did you? should i look into full studying blueprints , or software? i would love some help if you could point me into the derrection of where i should learn and what i should begin learning im hopping to create a horror game using your engine
Before I created Horror Engine, I didn't know anything, I was just doing simple level design for CGI. When I got interested in making games, I just watched RUclips videos on how to make the things I needed, and even if I didn't understand it, I just did what the person in the video was doing. Over time, I started to understand how it works, and then I started developing the Horror Engine. My advice would be to start a project first and research what you need at that time, without being limited to a series of tutorials.
Every time I change the Walk speed from 200, every time I try to build the game it fails. Resetting the value back to 200 does not fix the problem. For some reason I have to replace the "HE_GameplaySettings" file with a fresh copy.
Hey, so i've just brought your pack and its incredible! I'm a noob at blueprint, could you tell me how i could replace flashlight mesh with mine please? Everytime i try to replace the mesh, and the reference, its going back to the old mesh Thanks again!
Oh cool! Now I can add physics materials for water rooms and whatnot! Thank you! :D On that note though, how could I add my new footstep materials into the "footstep sound settings"? I'd like to make them modifiable from the "gameplay settings" asset if possible. I'm trying to build my own default project from Horror Engine that I can just use as my own personal template for all future projects of mine.
Nevermind, I think I figured it out. I went into the following directory: HorrorEngine/Blueprints/Structures/HorrorEngine and opened the HorrorEngine_Footsteps structure. From there I added 2 new variables for each new physics material I created, one for the footstep itself and the other for the jump queue. I then went to the footsteps/headshake of the HorrorEngine_Settings BP and set the pins accordingly as shown in your video. Now my new physics materials show up in the "gameplay settings" asset like I wanted. I hope I did that right and didn't miss anything though. lol
Where can I able to change/scrap/remove some core mechanics like the health/death? Im wondering if writing seperate variables that are similar with the engine will break things such as save/load system?
I migrated the horror engine content to my project but I’m very confused… how do I implement these gameplay settings in my own project, you never explained how to actually set this up
yo I could REALLY use a tutorial about how to add a new equipment slot and another tutorial how to make AI interact with doors and maybe tings that he can take so you cant PLS MAKE THAT KIND OF TUTORIAL
