Joint custody would be better. Ernestine is not a bad parent. She just makes poor life choices. But, both Ernestine and Kae would lay down their lives for their daughter.
Both parents have their flaws however. Set some boundaries with respect to Ava and try to abide by them.
But, Ernestine's chronic lack of respect for Jae is problematic.
Sure an alcoholic father with a DUI who drives drunk with his toddler in the car including a CPS case where he was tipsy and didn't put up the iron and it hit her in the head.
