Hi Serena, glad you're enjoying the videos! Remember, Alzheimer's is a type of Dementia and there are different scales professional use to identify the stages of AD. I'm not sure if you had a chance to read other comments, but here is a copy and paste from Natasha's comment above: "Sometimes, healthcare professionals discuss dementia using the Reisberg's stages of dementia.This divides the disease process into 7 stages based on the amount of cognitive decline. Other times, it's simply referred to as “early stage”, “middle stage” or “late-stage” dementia. I know, it can get confusing, especially with all the overlap, but remember, the progression of the disease and its characteristics are not fixed, absolute or same with every patient. So it is important to gain a broad and conceptual understanding of how the disease progresses from beginning to end and know the specific intervention strategies for symptoms that are likely to be present at each stage of the disease. Thank you for your comment and feedback! I really do believe that so much of what it takes to pass this exam hinges on our confidence and ability to stay calm during the exam. I know it's easier said than done. I was a complete mess a week before the exam and walked out of the prometric center feeling miserable. I will never forget that feeling. But, that's why I started doing these videos- to share my experience with other students with hopes that others would be spared this kind of anxiety I went through. Remember that what you need most to pass this exam is already within you. Spend the rest of this week reminding yourself that you are MORE than this NBCOT exam. Your videos on ACL, levels of dementia, and Ranchos really helped me on the test! :D I celebrated with friends last night and today I'm trying to keep myself from second guessing my answers, since all I can do is wait for my score. OT Miri thank you! I actually came back to this video I graduate this Thursday and only have two days left at my facility at my last placement, and was tasked with not only staging all the dementia patients FAST scores but doing an inservice on what to expect in at each level of dementia. This video really really helped me and I’ll def let everyone in my inservice know about your video as a reference to the aid it gave helping me with my last few assignments till I graduate.

I have been wanting to do a video on Parkinson disease and it's on my list, but I probably won't be able to get to it before your exam due to my heavy workload : ( But, your previous score indicates that you are already so far along and I'm hopeful you will pass this time around. With just one week left, you probably won't be doing a lot of new learning, so if I may suggest, try to review what you already know and practice utilizing your clinical rationale by incorporating your understanding of the frames of reference, practice setting and the OT process in various clinical scenarios. Hi Miri. Thank you so much for this video. I have been reviewing the PDF and still felt like I did not absorb what I read and took notes on. lol Thank you for conceptualizing the information. Breaking down the pre dementia and dementia stages helps. I have a question. I was going through practice questions and some refer to the 7 stages while others refer to the Early, Middle and Late stages. Can you help to clarify where does the early, middle and late stage relate to the 7 stages so I can have a better picture in mind. For example, is early stages considered for Reisbergs stage 1-2/ Middle stage 3-5/ Late stage 6-7??

What is important is to gain a broad and conceptual understanding of how the disease progresses from beginning to end and know the specific intervention strategies for symptoms that are likely to be present throughout the progression of the illness. Thank you. I did watch the intervention video as well. Your videos made alot more sense than the really long PDF, which I took notes on. I am having trouble with the Neurodegenerative diagnosis presented in the PDF, in general. I think it is just alot of information with alot of stages. Im having trouble separating the symptoms and their stages. Not just dementia, but Guiallian Barre, Huntingtons, Parkinsons, ALS. What I remember of ALS is that it is the only diagnosis that does not have a cognitive component. The rest is just a fuzzy mess in my brain. That section certainly caused some brain overload. :)

I have been wanting to do a video on Parkinson disease and it's on my list, but I probably won't be able to get to it before your exam due to my heavy workload : ( But, your previous score indicates that you are already so far along and I'm hopeful you will pass this time around. With just one week left, you probably won't be doing a lot of new learning, so if I may suggest, try to review what you already know and practice utilizing your clinical rationale by incorporating your understanding of the frames of reference, practice setting and the OT process in various clinical scenarios. Hi Miri. Thank you so much for this video. I have been reviewing the PDF and still felt like I did not absorb what I read and took notes on. lol Thank you for conceptualizing the information. Breaking down the pre dementia and dementia stages helps. I have a question. I was going through practice questions and some refer to the 7 stages while others refer to the Early, Middle and Late stages. Can you help to clarify where does the early, middle and late stage relate to the 7 stages so I can have a better picture in mind. For example, is early stages considered for Reisbergs stage 1-2/ Middle stage 3-5/ Late stage 6-7??
Hi Jennifer, I'm not sure if you had a chance to read some of the other comments, but this is a commonly asked question. Sometimes, healthcare professionals discuss dementia using the Reisberg's stages of dementia. This divides the disease process into 7 stages based on the amount of cognitive decline. Other times, it's simply referred to as “early stage”, “middle stage” or “late-stage” dementia. I know, it can get confusing, especially with all the overlap, but remember, the progression of the disease and its characteristics are not fixed, absolute or same with every patient and they don't fall perfectly in correspondence with each other so I hesitate to term them or link them together. What is important is to gain a broad and conceptual understanding of how the disease progresses from beginning to end and know the specific intervention strategies for symptoms that are likely to be present throughout the progression of the illness. My video on the Riesberg's 7 stages is intended to provide detail on the characteristics and symptoms that are present at each stage, while the AD Disease-OT intervention video is intended to provide you with specific OT intervention strategies you might consider for Alzheimer's disease as it progresses from mild to severe. Thank you. I did watch the intervention video as well. Your videos made alot more sense than the really long PDF, which I took notes on. I am having trouble with the Neurodegenerative diagnosis presented in the PDF, in general. I think it is just alot of information with alot of stages. Im having trouble separating the symptoms and their stages. Not just dementia, but Guiallian Barre, Huntingtons, Parkinsons, ALS. What I remember of ALS is that it is the only diagnosis that does not have a cognitive component. The rest is just a fuzzy mess in my brain. That section certainly caused some brain overload. :)

No because they have the disease process (i.e. abnormal proteins/plaques) but the mental decline has not materialized yet
