My grandmother had a green macaw for 30+ years, he was her best friend. Her name was tommie, not a common female name! When he got outside (rarely) he’d fly up to the top of a tree then get too scared to come down, and she’d have a local tree cutter guy climb up to escort him back down. He also spoke two languages fluently - and could cuss you out in both.

@@ShelbyTheMacaw It is advisable to train the parrots to come to eat or receive a reward by blowing a whistle with a characteristic sound, so that they can find the direction to take to return if they get lost among the trees. The birds locate each other with special cries, which they use a lot to locate each other when they cannot be seen because there are many trees or similar.
