We tend to regard him as weak, since his technique is to run away and keep a distance, but he's not wearing any armor like the rest of the souls bosses (because he's not technically a warrior), and he at least knows when to evade and when to be aggressive. Except with Artorias. He took quite a beating there... ;_;
Yes and no, Gwyndolin is strong in the sorcery category, but he is weak in other areas so if you use the miracle that cancels any magic for a certain amount of time (forgot the name), he is weaker than an ant in a fire
The problem is what they dont use each other... Like the second phase is the hardest. Specially an empowered ornstein, who is fast and hit a lot harder
I've beaten the game dozens of times and I can't remember ever losing that fight. People like to hype it up so much, that the first time I did it, I was disappointed. Actually, I might have gotten killed a couple times as a summon early on for some reason. The bed of chaos makes me want to quit the game every single time though. What a shitty boss.

Ornstein, as an example, is awesome, but part of his luster is the fact that he uses Lightning as an extension of himself, but this lightning is a miracle gained from his favor with Gwyn, it is not explicitly a power of his own. Artorias on the other hand utilizes his skill and dexterity with impractical weaponry to go toe-to-toe against the odds, while he ultimately failed in his quest against the Abyss, it still behind something fantastical. Even as a shriveled up shell of his former self, he still utter curb-stomps most enemy players who enters his boss-room, having only 1 arm to swing around a sword of impractical design and form with such strange grace and maneuverability is impressive to say the least, and being bereft of a sane mind to strategize and adapt with, he instead uses an unbridled madman's rage to simply stonewall his opposition, not exactly the best a warrior can do, but considering what he manages to accomplish with this many defects it's no wonder he has such a large following of fans. So is Artorias over-rated? Perhaps, but it isn't without reason.

Gwyndolin is the only sane and living God the player can interact and talk to in Dark Souls 1, while you can speak to Vendrick only in his own memories in Dark Souls 2 and Company Captain Yorshka the halfbreed in Dark Souls 3, but she knows nothing about the world at all.

It seems like some of the ai is based on what player would do, such as running away from the boss. Because gwyndolin was teleporting and standing still, they never activate their super long range moves.
Ornstein tried multiple times to do his low-altitude-flight/dash attack, but he kept getting staggered out of it, or outright killed. As for Gwyn...I don't know. I think he might have been about to try to leap when he was killed.

Main problem seems to be that the bosses can't dodge because of how narrow the hall is, Artorias is the only one who can narrow the distance between gwendolyn's spawn points quickly.
