The difference between pinch and side of salts are the length of their clips and animation
Side of salts generally don't have clips longer than 5 seconds and tend to have a separate animated skit or a lot of animated bits
Pinches of salts can have any length of clip and the animated bits really only add up to about 10 seconds with minimal animation

This line was actually chosen by the localization team for English to make it seem like the stakes were much higher. So obviously, if you switch it to any other language (especially JP), you'll notice the complete *lack* of that line. Several other dialogue changes were made in English to make the game seem more "cool".

Daniel von Strangle I think what happened is that the parents weren't aware that Mania is a downloadable-only game, so when they were asked to get Mania, they went to the game store and got the physical version of Sonic Forces.

@@internalforce well i mean people have done things similar for almost similar reasons, i think even yugioh had a character or 2 like that, not to mention in history, people like the amazons didnt like being called beautiful or terms you'd use to denote beauty since they wanted to be seen as warriors and not be taken as jokes or their opponents going easy on them because they were women. so being called weak and wanting to defeat said person in a rivalry of sorts would have been fine if they just made him shadows new rival. personally if they really wanted to make him a villain though, they should have made it so either eggman built him using dna from all the main characters and formed them into a single being (like cell from dbz) or just spin one of sonic/shadow's victories in a way where he lost a great deal because of it and wants revenge. heck they could have even just said he got tricked by eggman to help him out

The game really just needed consistency.
Nothing is really consistent in the game- sometimes it is challenging, sometimes it _literally_ plays itself.
Sometimes the characters are lighthearted... Sometimes the story is dark.
Sometimes its based on platforming, other times it isn't.
But the game also kinda shows how literally nobody knows what they want from the series. "The games should be about speed!" So they have long boost sections and "The game is too linear! We need more platforming!"
So they add platforming...

Aqua Purificotta They should just keep one formula and let the fanbase suck it up. They whine and bitch? Fuck it. Forces is the perfect example of you can't please everyone. You have classic sonic but his controls seem like crap and the music is god awful. You failed to please classic fans. They brought in Chaos but he has no relevance what so ever and gets one shot by classic. Adventure fans are not pleased. Then we have the literal boost to win stages that offer two second shortcuts instead of alternate paths. Probably pissed off a few people for lazy level design. And the music, one of the few things consistently good with Sonic games, only has a few memorable soundtracks. Pissed off a good amount of people who expected a great soundtrack. The OC is honestly the only thing they put the most effort in with the wispons and such. In the end they only pleased the Modern fans but even that's a stretch with how brain dead the level design is at points. And the Super Sonic dlc. Oh god that piece of crap. They had the balls to put up the ultimate achievement in a Sonic game behind a price tag on January 23. They pissed off the people who thought this game wouldn't have shitty practices. They pleased very little when they tried to please everyone.
Honestly I feel sorry for Sonic. Whatever Sonic does, people will loudly complain and are never satisfied. (And I know a lot of people loved Sonic Mania but I really couldn't get into it which probably proves my own point.) I do see justified complaints but otherwise, I wonder how Sonic keeps going.

I wouldn't mind Mania or strictly 2D games along with 3D games but I wish they'd stop with this 3D/2D sonic gameplay it looks stupid next to games like Mania just pick a style with one of the other and stop trying to force them together.

They really did. If you look at the level designers in the credits (If you survived that far-), then you'd see that they had only THREE people in that division. Two of them are completely new, while one was the level designer for Lost World.

@@AquaticLotus7552 All that you're describing is actually the minority, most Sonic art is pretty good or at least decent SFW art even on sites like DeviantArt. It's just that our brains are wired to magnify all the bad and negative and make it seem worse than it actually is. Though personally I don't see the fetish shit necessarily as a negative, it is what it is and I don't like it so I can choose to ignore it to focus on the stuff I actually like.

CeeHoff ik, we just need a good game that isnt classic sonic shoe’d in, (unless generations 2 i guess) sorta like sonic heroes or adventure. I mean i liked the idea of playing as all the other characters like knuckles or tails, not just sonic or... they who will not be named, i like classic and some modern sonic games, its just that sonic in 3D always lack basic polish or try to be classsic with 3D graphics (notably sonic 4) alot of them miss polish and are buggy, not to say they can be good. But in general. If sonic team slowed down ironically. They could make better games!

The most infuriating thing about the gameplay is how you can go at a really high speed, and when you want to stop, it does so abruptly, with usually ends with you dying in your confusion.
I love how Segas answer to the critically acclimated Mania is to release another sub par 3d Sonic. And we pretend Sega learned their lesson.
Actually both games were revealed at the same time. So it was more of, they expected people to love both simply because of Classic Sonic.

Fought sonic only in the begining cutscene,next time you meet him..trows lazors at you and never tries to attack in any other way.
In the begining cutscene dodges every attack,later...simply floats and dosent try to dodge atleast one attack
This is basicly the explanation of the element of suprise: In the begining absolutely crushes sonic,with everybody fearing his powers.Later on gets crushed by sonic and nobody fears him (except tails,hiding away from everything)
Trully the strongest enemy of them all,and what is his backstory?
Shadow beats him up,he behaves like a cringy wimp becuz of the little scar he got.Eggman gives him dark ruby powers,he destroys the whole world,even captures sonic,yet dosent even TRY to find Shadow.
Now feel like if infinite lost his braincells after he got that scar,then eggman gave him some braincells...only so that he captures sonic,the eggman removes them..
1 like = 1 braincell for infinite..so that he may regain his ability to think,fight and not behave like tails on drugs..

A far better backstory would have been that he was contracted by eggman to get chaos emeralds, but shadow kept foiling him, and right as he is about to finally get one, shadow knocks him down again and does the whole weak thing
So he goes to Eggman, who gives him the dark ruby, which corrupts his mind and turns him into a murderous machine with only the goal to show the world how strong he is
very similar to the current plot, but with better _motivation_
at least sega got themselves a nice looking engine now....hope they actually put it into good use next time ...

bocodamondo ah c'mon they weren't that BAD, sure I would have like more exploration and branching pathways with rewards for finding unique ways across levels, but I rather still like the 2d sections because quite honestly, sonic works his best in 2d, and with the wisps adding an excellent spin on gameplay, I think colors is one of the best sonic games. The biggest complaint I see is too much 2d, but seeing as how the other games are, id say that's pretty good that's the biggest issue lmao

Mania wasn't out at the time since we knew Classic Sonic would be in the game since it was first announced. It's more because of Generations that Classic Sonic was put in the game. His gameplay was well received in that game so Sonic Team probably went with the logic of "People loved him in that game. Maybe they'll really like this game if we put him in this one too!"
The boost formula CAN work well when it's the focus. (Like in Sonic Colors.)
The problem SEGA has is that they always think they need another style of gameplay, which puts less time and thought into the main gameplay style.
The fans should run Sonic Team.
The fans don't even know what they want from Sonic.

So Forces is basically the Sonic fandom in game form (minus the shipping fics and a few amazing music makers), while Mania is what the fans *actually need.* Good to know.

@Timpani Honestly The Sonic Adventure games weren't that bad, buggy, but considering their age they were pretty good 3D sonics. Made seperate character gameplay unique rather than each level as a whole. There are good 2D sonics as well. Well they could use a bit of improvement on level design I felt Sonic Adventure 2 did it best with obstacles, traps, puzzles, that didn't take away from the feel of the game. Sonic was pretty fast, but not gamebreaking fast.
Mixing 2D and 3D may seem like an amazing idea, but in the end it disorents players and causes difficulty with controls making the game much slower.
Plus Adventures has actual fun mini game stuff like Chao Garden if you wanted to do something else and have your hard earned rings and rank actually matter tongetting something. Rather than just cosmetics for an OC....

In my opinion, forces is a *VERY* mixed bag, I'll still get it, cause I love sonic, duh, and still enjoy it I guess, but i'll probably say "MAN, I WISH THEY DID THIS FOR THIS THING".

Fair point, but he does do this for quite a few other games as well. So at least it's a shared insult to most stuff he reviews? Then again this game would probably be a lot less hated if Mania hadn't come out and raised peoples expectations of a sonic game again.

very true, the same can be said for most sonic games though, each on has their hit that works each has their hit that doesn't, and that's fair. Just a curious question though, is the pc version technically a port? or do the console versions play better? because he did do this on steam

This game is free right now on the psn, and I only got about 3 levels in before I deleted it. This video is spot on.
What’s best for Sega is to focus on one gameplay style and polish that.
At least -not Classic- Sonic controls better.

The reason this game is lacking is because the team was a bunch of newbies. If the true team that worked on Colors and Generations worked on this one, then Sonic Forces would have been a better game.
...from a gameplay standpoint. The story would need a complete overhaul. Start the whole thing over, rework Infinite's backstory to be more consistent, include more characters like Cream and Blaze, and find the one guy who thought to make Tails afraid of anything and fire him immediately.
Even if they kept the same sonic team the game would still be shit. Sonic mania was made by newbies and that game was great.

If after 06 Sonic was still alive, then what makes you think this could have killed Sonic? That is, specially after Mania, which brought hope back for the series? If anything these boost games are the ones who need to die. Sega should take a step back to reconsider their aproach.

I'm alright with games like this but i know they can do better. It's because of the fans that they don't and that pisses me off. I want a great Sonic game, not another one that's objectively just okay, even if i'll enjoy it. But because of fanboys, we can't have nice things.

From a Sonic fanboy as myself, I enjoyed Forces. Was it good? FUCK NO. I enjoyed it mainly because, again, sonic fanboy, two, look me straight in the eye and tell me soundtrack ISN'T good and three , I felt like it represented he state of Modern Sonic, and maybe Sonic as a whole. Infinife being an Edgy fuck could be symbolic of the shitty fanbase constantly begging for the same shit over and over, bringing back old fan favorite villians while the OC could symbolize the good side of the fanbase that still tries, and knows deep down that Sonic can be great. All in all, Is it bad? Kinda, but there's plenty of worse games in the series. It's just kinda mediocre. It's sorta like after a bad break-up, your ex trying a pathetic, but honest attempt of patching things up. It's heart in the right place...but it really needs to try harder next time...
(Didn't help that appearantly only 3 new members worked on this game.)
