100% correct. There is no reason to make these changes. And you are right we would all be so mad if they race swapped Kingsley. They just need to forget the DEI nonsense.

10000% and not to mention we have some of them who haven't read the books. How are you going to be faithful if you don't even know the art you're dealing with? They do this with every single show where DEI has to be shoved down our throats and so blatantly obviously changed the way the true adaptation of characters are instead of sticking to the core source material

Thanks for taking the risk to talk about something we’re all talking about. I agree that HP fans are excited about this series to get that true to life story directly from the books. We want to see the books played out as they are written.
Unfortunately, like you said, those promises are going to be an utter lie. We’ve already seen the director say he has never read the books. So I seem them trying to force DEI initiatives and taking creative liberties…I just hope they are ready for the backlash when they do.
It will be hard to see anyone play these iconic characters, but if they are giving them to us they should be book accurate as promised.

@TheCollectingWizard The books consistently describe Ron as being tall & lanky with lots of freckles & a long nose. Rupert Grint didn’t fit that description since he was shorter & on the stocky side & didn’t have many noticeable freckles. Fred & George are repeatedly described as shorter with a stocky build yet the actors who played them were tall & slender. Luna was always described as bug-eyed with scraggly dirty blonde hair yet Evanna Lynch wasn’t popped-eyed & had a head full of white blonde hair. Did you ever complain about them not fitting the character descriptions in the books? Did you ever tell the producers & directors who hired them to “STICK TO THE BOOKS!!”? How about the actor playing Bill Weasley not having his hair in a pony tail. Every description of Bill in the books says he wears his long red hair in a pony tail yet the actor isn’t shown on screen with a pony tail. Did you post a diatribe on RUclips about that? You just have a problem with $kin tone. You get upset when that & only that doesn’t match descriptions from the books. Why? Why aren’t you yelling “STICK TO THE BOOKS!!” when other characteristics don’t match? You’re outing yourself & your prejudices.

Wasn't the whole point of the series to make a true version of the books?

@isabellesundberg5961. Luna is consistently described in the books as having protruding eyes & scraggly dirty blonde hair. Are you going to complain if they hire an actress who’s not bug-eyed & has a head full of shining blonde hair? One that closely resembles Evanna Lynch. I doubt it.
Did you get upset that Rupert Grint & the Phelps twins didn't match the book descriptions of the 3 youngest Weasley brothers? Ron was tall & lanky with lots of freckles & a long, thin nose while the twins were shorter & stocky. Yet the actors who played them were the opposite. The Phelps twins were tall & slender while Grint was shorter & more solidly built with a short wide nose. Did that bother you at all? Were you at all upset that they didn’t match the book descriptions?
How about the actors who played the Dursleys. They didn’t match the book descriptions very well. Petunia & Dudley were blonde & Vernon had dark hair yet in the movies the actors were the opposite. Petunia & Dudley had dark hair while Vernon was a sandy blonde. How many people got their knickers in such a twist over that that they felt compelled to either make RUclips videos about it or comment on such videos? How about Matthew Lewis having dark hair when the books say Neville has light hair? Did anyone bee-itch about that?
I haven’t seen a single person complaining about actors not matching characters descriptions from the books unless it’s about skin tone. Hair, height, body build & even age can be wrong & most don’t say “Boo!” about it. But good god almighty if the actor/actress has a darker $kin tone than what they expect & the 💩 hits the fan. It’s truly pathetic.

If I had to describe book Snape in four words: “Sad, white angsty incel.” I don’t generally have a problem with race swapping characters for diversity, like it worked for Annabeth, little mermaid, etc. the actors killed it. But that’s because there was nothing inherent to their character that suggested they were white, and brought up with a white person perspective on the world. It’s about so much more than just the skin color he was described with in the book. I don’t really give a darned about that part. It’s the colorblind mindset that “we can just put in any race and it won’t change the character” part that I hate. Race isn’t just skin color. I would argue that Snape’s identity as a white man with sallow skin and greasy hair is part of what makes him the way that he is in the book, purely from a character perspective.

Sallow does not mean pale. Black/darker skin tones can also be sallow.
Sallow means unhealthy looking, dull, grey, or yellow.

Snape is also described as "white as marple" "white as sour milk" "his white fingers" and other variations of white faced. No one would use this kind of wording for a black character. NO ONE! Jkr has a selfdrawn drawing of him as a white man. She wanted alan rickman a white man and no one else to play snape. He is an ugly white man in the books! Its not racist to point that out. Raceswapping on the other side IS racist!

In the fifth book, when Harry enters Snape’s memory in the Pensive, Snape is described as a pale plant that didn't get enough sunlight. Not wanting adaptations based on political correctness does not make someone a racist.

    • @learobinson4450

Pale plants are usually a light grayish green. So going by the description you cited Snape should be played by a sickly Martian. You ok with that since it goes by the book?

@@isabellesundberg5961 lol, imagine thinking a simile or metaphor is an accurate description of a persons appearance.
Ive seen so many people relying on the word sallow to justify their racism, whilst clearly not understanding what it means. Like the person in the video, who said it means pale, when it absolutely does not.
FYI, black people can also be pale and described as a 'pale plant that didn't get enough sunlight'.
interesting how non of the white people rumoured to be potential options have faced such criticism, despite not one of them being book accurate one little bit.

First, as mentioned, this is only a rumor and yet the need to jump and make this particular video is fascinating…
It’s so wild the mental gymnastics that people are willing to do the convince themselves that they are not playing into racist, anti-black rhetoric.
You are not absolved by a counter argument about making a black character white.
Furthermore, your intention is also crystal clear as the “faithful adaptation” argument is only connected to the race of the character, granted there are many others that could have been discussed, along with a clickbait-y video title and photo.
Also, the comments of “DEI nonsense” - wow - and “Holly woke” image 😒
Wow. I’m deeply disappointed as PotterHead who looked up to you as a collector, admired your content, and even supported your side hustle.
There was an alternative option: keeping this to yourself.
But content at all costs I guess.
    Sad.

dang. how do you not notice that DEI is actually real? a faithful adaption means hiring the correct actors for the job. which is what this video is about. trying to guilt him into thinking he is somehow racist for wanting to keep a chracter as accurate to the books is pretty awful behavior. Gaslighting someone who believes differently than you is a thing umbrdige did. fyi.

Wow. Cancel culture is alive and well. I think most would agree that there was no malicious intent or racism in this video. This was someone sharing their opinion about something they are passionate about and explaining how the potential new actor doesn’t align with a previously established image of the character. To be honest, the malicious intent, hatred, and click bait is coming from this comment. Not the video.

    • @WitzEndd
      @WitzEndd 2 дня назад +4

The “faithful adaptation” argument is fully valid as it is being applied to one of the only things it can be at present. Once the show actually starts there will be far more content to hold to this standard. You’re attributing intent to his opinion which is not founded in fact, but in your assumption. It’s a logical fallacy.

As a content creator, my job is to talk about top topics. That means news as this. Saying I should “keep this to myself” is an issue for me when it’s obviously a main topic everyone’s talking about. It almost sounds like you’re trying to silence me on what YOU don’t want me to say….Furthermore, trying to tell me you supported me but also wanting me to fit my content around what YOU deem good content is unrealistic. There will be videos you don’t like and videos you do. Obviously I’m open to conversations but not when you’re not open to the obvious elephant in the room which is this whole videos topic. Just read the comments and see it’s not just a wild thought I had. This is what many are feeling and it’s okay to have different opinions.
