This is the best performance of the St. Matthew Passion that I've ever heard. Superb soloists, choirs, and orchestra, ideal tempos, excellent camerawork, and the much appreciated bonus of subtitles. Thank you for posting.

A stunning performance. The sincerity and dedication of the soloists and all concerned really comes through. Must be wonderful to participate in something like that and have the memory for life.

Art is tough to define but easy to see. This is piece is an avalanche of meaning and nuance. Overwhelming.
The command that Bach had of modeling human emotion and his art.... calling him a "genius" is putting him into a box.

@@jacobwillemsen4102 You misunderstand. First, I would happily pay, but RUclips doesn't offer that possibility. Second, you either post content of this beauty and offer it for free (was it screened on TV for free?), or you don't. This is a great performance of a master-work, not an adolescent makeup tutorial! In conclusion, the experience is scarred by ads creating in at poignant moments. You should apologise for your bad-faith rudeness.

@@AcademieVocaleParis absolutely no apology. If you watch this on TV, the cable bill pays for it or you pay via commercials in the shoulders of such program. You have to understand that content on the internet can't exist for free. If you take a youtube membership you can watch content for free and youtube pays the owners of the content. That is how it works. Only the sun comes up for free. Or even better: you buy it/download from the website of the organization who paid for all the performers and recorded it. Then you can listen without any interruptions and they can create other beautiful content.

Yes we know the story. A libretto for us who are not fluent in the nuances of German is appreciated.

@@ReubenLL28 I wonder iff you really would have any joy of your German in tis special case. The language is very old-fasioned, very far from modern German. Wi Germans understand it, but the style in both the Biblical and the poetic texts is very screwed. Nobody would talk like this today. It's - if this comparison is allowed - almost like Shakespeare.

Lurching around foolishly with affected phasing and dynamics, a small mind on the surface that doesn’t even qualify for self-conscious or HIP cleverness for the sake of it. Sketchy and cute light rhythmic ideas for the music with neither detailed thought in phrasing nor secure paragraphing, resulting in dullness and monotony; the extreme spareness looks not just to Schutz but back to early baroque opera. Solti for all his traditionalism is way ahead. A few glances at Koopman conducting and the singers and players shows there is little music here- the whole period of core repertory performance finished 15 years prior to this. 22 mins is enough, dreary results from the evenness of incident, metrical rigidity and thin textures- HIP irrelevance.
