    I accidentally dropped my lens before and when i heard the shatter sound my heart broke. But when i picked it up i was so surprised it was the uv filter that broke. Not even a scratch on my lens

      The filter acts like a deflector. I dropped my lens and the lens cap just pops out, no damage to the lens.

      In nd X, X is the result of 2 power n where n is the number of stops you can find this by applying the formula:
      ln(X) / ln(2) = n
      Exemple nd16 -> ln(16)/ln(2) = 4, the nd16 is 4 stops

    My filter bag includes ND, polarizer, black pro-mist, CTO-CTB filters, and Lee gradient filters. It's a lot but it helps make your pictures look different than just the guy with the i-phone. I also combine filters with flash and gels to get different looks.

    Your a very courageous vlogger believing in essence that a matter of minutes might explain just how much a difference can be made with Neutral Density, Gradient gels, and full color swap filters. I agree wholly with the point your making, but know that it's not a clear cut distinction that can be made without experimentation and careful thought about the looks your trying to achieve. Most people aren't wired that way, haven't the discipline required to nail down the rudiments of filter usage. Forgive the negative mind- set, and analysis of modern users, but I read the comments on most Vlogging Sites, and see clearly just how simple their mindsets are. Best wishes with your efforts.

    • @silencenhikes6692
      @silencenhikes6692 4 года назад +2

      Gerardo Garcia for daytime just get ND 256 or 400 just to make the shutter speed longer. 2 seconds should be enough for fast moving water. But if you want to smooth out a lakes ripples or ocean waves or a slow moving creek than a ND 1000 especially in full sunlight. I have ND 1000 even in the shade, if i want to reduce the shutter speed than i will open up the lens to a lower aperture or boost the iso.

    I hate using filters because I hate trying to keep them clean, but for my Panasonic 72mm I use an adjustible PL but don't like it and the protector. I like the gradient idea but don't have one. When I was a kid My mother wanted a color TV so Dad bought this filter like thing that was blue on top and I think green on the bottom and taped it over the picture tube lol - it was like, seriously ?? That's kind of what those remind me of. But yeah a bleached out sky with nicely exposed scenery is a real bummer.

Do you know if it's possible to screw a filter on a filter? So for example screw a UV over an ND filter to protect it?

      Hey Marc!! Thanks! Yes you can screw them on each other if they have the thread. Just make sure it does - I have a Hoya, Polarpro, B+W that I can make it work with. I also have another one that can’t so just read the review / comments /faq first :)

    If I get the polarpro nd/pl filters do I still need a uv filter to protect my lens? And what graduated nd filters do you use or recommend?

    • @Pierretlambert
      @Pierretlambert  6 лет назад +1

      Hey man!! No need UV if you already have a filter on - I don’t recommend stacking them you’ll lose in quality.
      For the gradient ones I’ve heard good things about Lee - but never tried personally. The one I have at home is a cheap one (can’t even remember the brand ha!)
      Thanks for watching man!!

    t'es à fond toi… Doucement, doucement! Bon le filtre dégradé bof quand même car sur light room deux clics et c est bon. Tu n'as pas évoqué un des intérêts majeur du filtre ND qui est d'ouvrir beaucoup plus afin d'avoir une plus petite profondeur de champs. Que penses tu des filtres variables? ça manque de piqué hein?

    • @Pierretlambert
      @Pierretlambert  6 лет назад

      Salut Peter! :)
      Oui je n'en ai parlé en effet car c'est plus applicable en vidéo (en tout cas pour moi). J'avoue n'avoir jamais utilisé de filtres variable, dans mes recherches ils n'étaient jamais "très bons" - quelle est ton expérience avec?
      Bonne journée!

    • @peterferry1646

      Justement je suis allé voir tes vidéos car je voulais me renseigner là dessus… Mais je vais opter pour des filtres nd classiques ça me parait plus pertinents car les retours même pour des filtres chers sont médiocres (beaucoup d'aberrations chromatiques mais, plus grave encore tous sans exception s'accompagne d'une réduction considérable des détails). Toi qui fais de la photo et des vidéos tu verrais un avantage à avoir des filtres variables?
      Bravo pour tes vidéos. Pour le shoot à des focales plus grandes avec une lumière crue ça me parait intéressant notamment en portrait de rue. On n'est pas toujours dehors aux heures où la lumière est la plus belle surtout lorsque l'on baroude autour du globe comme toi.

      Il n'y a rien de pire que des photos qui tirent vers le magenta à cause d'un filtre... là je testais les filtres PolarPro "fixes" et franchement chapeau - je les ai même mis l'un sur l'autre (ND/PL16+ND8) et rien à dire. Vaut mieux prendre un bon filtre "fixe" plutôt que les variables. Le seul avantage est quand tu passes du plein soleil à l'ombre tu peux adapter mais bon en 2mn tu peux changer le filtre aussi :)
      Yes en photo de rue je shootes souvent en pleine après midi, j'aime beaucoup la lumière directe avec les ombres :)
      Bonne recherche dans les filtres!! :)

      @@Pierretlambert I did some research after I watched your video. It is a rarely used special effects type filter. I talked with the friend who gave me the camera. He said the grid would make light sources such as street lights, or where there were single or multiple light sources and turn them into stars. I'm going to give it a try tonight, Not sure what DM is. I don't use Instagram.
