    From what I know that’s a very rare spot, well done!

      To see these trains during the day is indeed very rare, but I had heard that they would be in use that weekend (I filmed this on a Sunday). I was actually there for the 1938 tube stock train, but its journey was cancelled.

    I dreamt off a mainteance train in the subway, i was the driver. It was night, no subway cars where arround. Then suddenly i see another mainteance train passing by with no crews in it. Then i heard a scream and i turned arround, nobody was there. i turned arround to see the tracks again and suddenly a shadow pushes me to the window, and i got killed by my own mainteance car.
    What a horrible dream :/
    but in real, i want to work on service trains in the subway tunnels in Oslo

      +SodaMaster yikes! dreaming of your own death can be very upsetting, even though it typically just means that a change in your life is coming. So maybe you will get the job you want!

    Ballast engine number 44, very nearly had me pushing up daises, at Farringdon. That was in the 1970s when they were painted maroon. You couldn't feel the draft in open stations like Farringdon, Luckily a P-Way man told me a ballast was about, and I just jumped clear. That's why I posted this. 14 years on the W&B, at the LTE.

      GreenmanXIV wow, that sounds serious.
      Thanks to the railways I too could have been pushing up daises several decades ago. This was in Chamonix, France, where I encountered what looked like some disused sidings and decided to explore. This was of third rail electrified tracks! What nearly caused my demise was my wondering whether the third rail was still live. I mused that whilst standing on electrified tracks here in London would indeed be a very stupid thing to do, since the tracks I was exploring were rusty from dis-use so the third rail would likely not be live any more. In the end the thought crossed my mind that its always best to stay safe and therefore 'just in case' I'd be better off not stepping on to the live track. A short while later I saw a third rail train moving, so even though it was not in the disused siding I had probably made the right decision. I think the voltage in the Chamonix area is 800v.

    These were working Ruislip Depot-Aldgate Platform 1
    Train 655 [the first train you saw] was too long for the Edgware Road Pfm 2 which caused problems there, hence why the 38 stock was diverted

    I did not know in advance... I went to Liverpool St stn to film the 1938 Tube Stock Heritage Train and right until the train became visible this is what I had been expecting. The station staff were also telling everyone that the Heritage Train was coming on the platform passenger announcement system.
    The second train was even luckier - I was on the S stock train seen leaving Farringdon and noticed the battery loco stopping on the track next to me. So I jumped off and got my camera out...

    Wish I was that lucky when I play on the underground.
    Hard enough chasing my very few sets when nobody knows what diagrams they are on and very little or no information on allocation.
    Wish they had a similar set up like TOPS on BR

    Those trains are called Runaway Trains

    • @CitytransportInfoplus
      @CitytransportInfoplus  4 года назад

      Are you thinking of what happened on the Northern line a few years ago? Because of the runaway maintenance train a passenger train had to travel in 'emergency: flee for your life mode' and travel through several stations in the hope that the runaway would not catch it up! Fortunately the trains were driven by humans and no-one was hurt, I very much wonder if the safety systems used on the more modern computerised automated train control system would have made it impossible to skip stations and break speed limits

  • @TheThecyclist

    what was the point in a train announcement being done whilst a maintenance train was traveling through the station thereby drowning it out?

      We always think and hope that our favourite class of emu, or tube stock has got a "few more years", but once time is up, time is up sadly
      More recently, people have lamented the class 313 emu on great northern, but they were past it unfortunately and had had their day
      But we dont like saying goodbye do we?

    1:15 how often is this 1938 stock used in London?
    1:41 I wonder if these locomotives are ever used to pull a broken down set?

    • @CitytransportInfoplus
      @CitytransportInfoplus  7 лет назад +3

      The 1938 set is not used very often and this year 2016 its been out of service almost al year.
      The battery locos only haul trains when its planned in advance. A broken down train will be powered by the train behind or in front of it.

    can these maintenance locomotives only run in multiple or is it just common practice to have a pair for each train, topping and tailing?

    • @CitytransportInfoplus
      @CitytransportInfoplus  7 лет назад +1

      I think it depends on the intended use whether they run singly or in pairs.
      btw although the lead locomotive controls braking (throughout the train) they do not operate as a multiple unit. The locomotive at the back of the train needed a driver to manipulate the controls for it to provide acceleration.
