*stopped at customs* customs officer: sir what have you got in the back of your van? Ian: eh, a WW1 Minenwerfer... customs officer: sir step out of the van.
There's a German WW1 mortar in the street near where I live in Qld, Australia. It forms part of a war memorial, it's lucky we don't get scrap men around here or it would be long gone.
Darth... the term 'Minnie Werfer' is a 'slang' name given to the Minenwerfer by British and Commonwealth troops during the Great War, together with the alternative phrase 'Moaning Minnies'.
that one is the " heavy " version , i know where there is a " light " version , serving as a gate guard is, not 12 mile from where i live , and i'm pretty certain the group that has it , don't know what it is.
What was the range on that shot? Seemed like a dead on hit in the middle of that target shack, which would be odd for a weapon of this type and age; and no ranging shot for calibration? Let me say what I think we are seeing here; the mortar fired an inert training round with a minimal powder charge and cut-paste a shot of the 'target' being demolished with an electronically triggered tannerite charge. I get it, it is generally impossible to convince the government to allow a civilian to discharge flying high explosive ordnance, but just be honest about it.
Yeah mate. 100% fake. That's why the pneumatic recoil system did not engage. Not enough recoil from that little Hollywood black powder charge they used. And I direct hit because they didn't fire anything. They just put some pyrotechnics in the "target". All for views.
It looks like they shot a chalk round into some tannerite... as long as it shoots the projectile, it would work with live ammo. And the barrel is rifled, hence the accuracy You can see a huge white cloud next to the explosion, that's chalk dust
Love this programme love Bruce's enthusiasm never met him but seems a nice bloke. He is a collector and he buys and sells so he is in it to make a profit like any other business person. Very simple if you don't like the programme don't watch it. More polite than calling someone a wanker when you've never met them.
Ooooh...triggered!! But the bloke is a bit of a big mouthed tosser, the sort you see at market stalls flogging old tat at silly prices and shouting....."Two apples at a paand"
If this were to be genuine, I bet they would have made the rounds themselves or found someone who makes them. I strongly feel that the original rounds would have been extremely dangerous and unreliable at best. It is almost impossible to keep 100 year old rounds in near factory condition.
@@DerKeksDerVerdammnis I was wondering the same thing. Is it even safe to fire a heavy mortar round through a 100 year old weapon? My son has a Winchester 1917 and those old weapons are very iffy because of all the time that’s passed.

As o did explain a lot of people. The gun or cannon should kick back with the breach. When firing it. Not sure if they used training rounds and then ignited some tnt on the designated target or that is fake. Those were my opinions.
5:10 Hey!, thats USS Leviathan (at the time) one of the largest ocean liners ever built, she was captured from the Germans by the US and used by the army until the end of the war, later being sold to "united states line" and subsequently used until 1938 when she was scrapped upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/af/USS_Leviathan_SP-1326.jpg/800px-USS_Leviathan_SP-1326.jpg
Doesn't look CGI to me, if you pause it it looks far more like a fake projectile than a CGI one. It wouldn't be hard to make a wooden or resin fake and more than likely a company already produces them. It would also explain the pop from the muzzle. If you pause at 6:14 you can see something definitely leaves, most likely they used a very weak charge and got the special effects team to work up the practical effect. It obviously wasn't a live projectile but I'm pretty confident it did fire something, as in a resin or wooden dummy.
oh wow, they actually fire and projectile this time, such a shame that such an slow moving shell would have been easely visible on the explosion. but guess whats missing!?

Hydraulics and springs, I think the breech is unlocked by recoil, which is dampened and reset by the Hydraulics and springs.. that one might be manual You could 3D laser image scan each part, and re-cast each piece with new steel from a ceramic mold... and then heat treat and paint.. for an exact, functional replica
Really nice but the big problem with things like this is finding the ammunition for it because they don't make it anymore and it would cost more money to have the rounds made if you could find somebody that can make them then it's going to cost for the weapon itself it's best to put it in a museum
That dude made 7grand flipping metal on wheels. Wow!

FAKE as HELL! All they did was light off a black powder charge in the mortar. Then detonated another charge later in the field. Pretty bad CGI of a projectile leaving the barrel. Notice almost ZERO recoil and the blast from the touch hole as if were a Civil War cannon. Just as fake as their Panzershrek video where they fire a model rocket motor out of it and detonated a boat separately with black powder and gasoline. PS: you might want to tone down the overly done excitement.
