In one of the Syria vs. Israel wars the Syrian tank core consisted of refurbished German WW2 tanks and ones from Czechia that were finished based on what was left in the factories when the Russians came through. The armories of most colonial nations that achieved freedom during that time consisted almost entirely of ww2 weaponry
Absolutely no reason to use WW2 88mm shells that cost in the thousands of dollars when you could ask a machinist to make some for a less than a quarter the cost
@@Jagdpanzer-bh4pb You have a point, they could just make a replica or model for the movie Now if a museum needed a shell done to give an example of one that's good looking, and not say in a wearhouse or in the Earth for years, then yes. Dereik Henschel that is true but it is what it is. However id like to see these boys make a tiger two to scale with reproduction parts and wartime factory parts
Well, those 88mm shells are no longer worth much. Any shell with body filler completely and immediately devalues it. I have a shell with 60-70% brass wash on it, but there is a dent on the shoulder that I want to fix, but I am not quite sure how.
Romaster 8035 Oh, a magnet won’t cut it, these shells do not have thin walls, the casing walls are probably 1.5mm thick, upon which I can stand on it, and jump (I am 5”11, 180 pounds) without it getting a dent. They are 13 pounds of German made steel. If I am going to take the dent out, it is going to require a weld and some specialty made tools (most likely a threaded rod in order to pull the dent out in order to remind it.
Sander Visser doesn’t mean they always know what they are talking about. Steel was used for amour and shell casings for small arms but wasn’t reliable so brass was the better option.

Cold War movie with 88mm tiger shells and mg 42s with soviet 50-60s anti aircraft guns... seems like they are going for authenticity
I mean they'd all be fairly at home in something set in Yugoslavia, Hungary, Bulgaria or Egypt in the 50's/60's.

my great grandmother work in a tank factory making ammo for the Panther and she nearly got her hand blown off.
"I hope there's no explosive left in this thing", he says banging it with a steel hammer. Hasn't he heard of bronze?
They're not going to use a loaded round for a movie. Probably had primer removed with powder years ago.
If the shells were in such bad condition that they had to be painted with brass look paint you might as well have used wood or similar!
That AA gun is from Finnish Army, an 23 ITK 61 "Sergei" , Soviet made ZU-23-2 gun O_o
why not mold and cast the tank shells instead of destroying the originality?
A movie about the cold war with a ww2 tiger 2...? what?
Maybe the sequel to Fury but now it's 5 Easy 8 vs 1 king tiger
@Deus Vult calm down calm down we need plot for this one
@Deus Vult that scene was trash because that tiger could kill all shermans without moving but hey that's Hollywood reality
German_ BIAS not all tigers the easy 8s 76 mm gun could’ve killed the tiger head on from the distance they were at
HERPY DERPEDY he said it was Cold War movie tho
Ill fix the title: Ruining long 88 shells for no reason
My Uncle Dan Serilla served with the 504th PIR 82nd. Love when he wears that jacket.
"Refurbishing" you mean ruining ? Such a shame.
Im split, you should refurbish some. Save the others, he is doing this for a movie though.

It’s gotta be Rambo 5
Has anyone figured out what film this is for?
Didn’t even paint the bottom of the shell, they just left it red what idiots. The bottom would be brass as well

Dereik Henschel i mean you can just Laser engrave INERT at the bottom of the case while it’s brass so they can know it’s not a live round mate.
