Breeding Otocinclus Catfish | Oto Cats Lifespan From Egg to Fry to Juvenile | Dwarf Suckerfish Ottos

  • I spent 3 months recording footage of my otocinclus catfish growing up.
Back in March of this year I had a spare 20 gallon tank (my hamster passed away after 2+ years, that was his home). There was no way for me to give the 20 gallon tank away to anyone due to COVID. So I ended up starting a 20 gallon planted tank aquarium, hired an algae eating crew which included two otocinclus catfish. These two oto catfish turned out to be a perfect pair of male and female that ended up breeding. I understand it is tough to breed otocinclus catfish, and I’m not going to sit here and pretend to teach you how to breed oto cats (because it happened for me by sheer luck), but I will show you these dwarf suckerfish, oto cats going from eggs, to fry, to juvenile, to young adulthood.
BONUS: the tank that they bred in was coincidentally situated in my bedroom. 😂

@@TankTastic awesome! So is there anything I should do? About two months ago I saw three baby ottos that were well past this stage but still very small. They were moving and sucking on their own, but I haven't seen them since. I am hoping it is because they are so tiny, shoot I loose track of the four adults sometimes because I do have a heavy bed of monte carlo in my tank. Do you think they are still alive? Do I need to do anything to ensure this guy's success? Are there more that I can't see? I have so many questions lol. And so exciting! I too took up tanks during quarantine and now I have thousands of little blue shrimp that I loveeee!

Edward Wijaya thank you bro! The only thing I was able to test is the PH and that stood at a steady 7.0 in that particular tank. The time they bred the weather was getting warmer so it was around 78-80 degrees F. The tank was fully planted with fast growing easy plants. The tank was a 20G with a 2213 Eheim canister filter. I’m also located in NYC, so our local waters I believe absolutely helped as well. Sorry, not sure if this helps as all.
