It is always such a pleasure to see the total enthusiasm when you do a reaction. I love the fact that it’s more intimate because they slowed it down. I like the stripped down jazzy, bluesy, sultry, sexy sound of it. And they all look the part! I really appreciate that even though DeeJay‘s voice could easily be mistaken for Michael Jackson’s, they did not slavishly copy the song. They rearranged it to feature his voice but make it their own. I love Geoff’s bassline, Eli’s gorgeous clear tones and the fact that we got to hear Layne sing with Cesar (One of my favorite parts. ) DeeJay gets a couple of chances to riff for a while. It reminds me of the Motown sounds that I grew up with. This is definitely going to be one of my favorites. They filmed this at a different studio, and the mics all belong to the studio. Since they pre-record and this is for the video, I think they wanted the variety just for the visual. In the behind-the-scenes they showed some of the different equipment and really liked the fact that they had big speakers in the background to add to the ambience.
DJ was a swing for five parts for the Anjelica tour of Hamilton, which was interrupted by Covid. During that time he appeared with Voiceplay a few times. On his first night back after Covid, he went on in the role of Hamilton. Since the tour ended he did a run of several weeks on Broadway in the role of Aaron Burr. He has also been the voice of a couple Disney show and just released another album. My favorite of his collabs with Voiceplay is Bang. He was also on board for J None’s last two official songs as a member of Voiceplay, Man in the Middle and Best Friend.
I like the groovy, jazzy vibe of their version. And it seems like a reminder "Hey, we still can do it this way!" after the more "effectful" and/or theatrical videos of the last months. Great! 🥰

The mixing allows his harmonies to stand out (usually he’s so well blended it’s hard to distinguish him from the others) and he gets that special harmony moment with Cesar 🥹 You guys need to have a VoicePlay reaction week! I’m listening to more Voiceplay, and this was by far the smoothest, most unhurried arrangement I’ve heard. No breakdown today; just a really great sound. Like most of the big a cappella groups (PTX, Home Free, VP, Geoff on his solo work), the final mix is done by Ed Boyer, who appears to be a genius at mixing. This is a Geoff arrangement, and VP does an initial mix, but leave the final one to Ed.
The bass is kinda in front sometimes but most people listen on their earbuds, desktops, car stereos or whatever and not on pro headphones so the mixing would be for that . I did like this more than I thought I would. Great reaction.
You two are giving me whiplash! I listened to your Dirty Loops (Hit Me) yesterday, and not VoicePlay. Talk about slamming on the brakes and shifting gears. To be honest, this particular cover doesn't make my VoicePlay top 10 (or even 20), but that's okay. YOU two do a great reaction regardless of the artist OR the song.
