I met my now husband at a bath house in Dallas Texas. Within a week we had moved in together. Now 46 years later we are still madly in love and in the twilight of our lives. We somehow avoided the AIDS epidemic but lost many of our close friends to that. We learned how to be safe during our early years and it is paying off now later in life. We WILL see our 50th anniversary and still be madly in love. Bath houses are wonderful if you approach them with respect. To all my young and old brothers: Play safe even when you have protection.

Men have as many reasons to NOT go to a bathhouse as they have to go there. For me, my first visit was more out of curiosity than anything else. I never even had sex on my first visit -- probably due to the time of day I went. I figured out pretty quickly that bathhouses were just like really big men's locker rooms --- where some guys just happened to get lucky and have sex. For me, going to bathhouses allowed me to feel comfortable being naked around other guys (something I was always shy about before). It made me comfortable being gay, and comfortable with my body type. It led me to join a gym and get into better shape. And it made me less inhibited about having sex with guys. Overall, I consider my bathhouse visits to be very positive experiences. 😊👍
@@dennis-qu7bs -- The vast, vast majority of men walk around the public areas of a bathhouse wearing a towel -- although underwear, jockstrap, or naked would also be acceptable though not too common. I was referring to the "wet areas" where nudity is the norm: the steamrooms, the saunas, the jacuzzis, and the showers. In those areas, it is customary to hang your towel on a hook or bar and go naked. And, of course, you tend to be nude in the small private rooms you rent to take guys back to. But you can stay as covered up as you want in the public areas and no one will judge you -- provided you don't judge the guys who prefer nudity. 😊

I have used bathhouses that have rooms to avoid Driving Under The Influence Tickets, after a night of partying. Also as a place to take a guy that I just met vs going to his place or mine. I even use them for Grindr,Ect. Hookups. It is much safer that way than random hookups in a park or cruising ground.
Nah. New technology rarely replaces old technology. It merely complements it. Planes did not replace cars, trains and bikes. We just have more options now. Gay bath houses will never go away. It has a lot that Grindr and the like cannot give you. I go to gay saunas (as most of the world calls them) nearly every day. Grindr is something I use very rarely.

Thank you for bringing up the bath house experience. It triggered fond memories of my life, a long time past. Hope you don’t mind, I thought I’d like to tell you of my first experience at the baths. I was at the ‘tubs’ 3-5 times a week in the seventies, that’s what lot of guys called them. My favorite place at that time was Called the “8709” which was located at 8709 ‘3rd’ street in West Hollywood. It wasn’t long and the name sort of became ‘3rd street’. In the beginning, I was insecure about my looks, like lots (most) guys, I had body issues but on my very first visit, I became a member and when I had met all the qualifications and paid the fee, I was buzzed in the front door where I was met at the counter just inside and handed a ‘small’ white towel and a locker key on an elastic band,that was so you could wear it around you wrist so it was out of the way and you wouldn’t lose it. I found my locker and as I stripped naked a very cute, totally naked guy walked right up to me and said, “ I saw you come in and watched you timidly take off your clothes, I guessed it was your first time. You seemed nervous as you slowly undressed, it took you forever to pull down your Underware. I found this very sweet and innocent. I just want to tell you what a hot young body you have”. I was embarrassed and shy and barely looking at him Then he said, “please turn around”. I turned and faced him. He he pointed at his crotch as he said, “see this is what seeing you does to me.” He was fully aroused. In Chicago we had 4, then 3, then 2. Now we might have one, but it depends on COVID. Everything is certainly closed for the time being. The apps like Grindr have really hit the gay life and culture hard. It felt like people were too afraid to talk to people face to face, and just 'ordered in'. What they don't know or didn't figure out was that when you had the buffet standing in front of you, you could choose and not worry about getting catfished or scammed or lied to. Great topic! Bathhouses just aren't the same anymore and many are closing their doors. However, I do think men still need places to go for anonymous encounters. A great alternative are Korean Spas. If you never been its basically a wet area and a sleep room. No bathing suits are allowed so everyone is nude. They also offer massages and body scrubs. I really think this could be a profitable business. You don't need a lot of space and instead of rooms like bathhouses what I would do if I owned one would be to install private shower stalls with benches inside. Easy, no mess. I would also offer body scrub services but would set it up inside a steam room. Biggest complaint men have are getting too cold during the scrubs. I would also offer good customer service and be a men's only place. Moving more towards wellness and relaxation is the way to go. You will definitely have happy customers. I hope someone opens one in Austin. A booming gay population here with no spa to go to. If I had the money I'd open one myself.
They have to go through HEAVY regulation. It only seems like the kind of venue that requires little overhead but I’ve seen the books at my bath and let me tell you.... pain. Only pain. 🥲

My first experience with Bathhouses was in London. It was so much fun. There’s a variety of them so you can find the right one for you. In Houston we only have 1 and it can be a bit cliquey

Thanks for your informative and honest video. I have always felt more comfortable in bath houses than in bars, for various reasons. My experiences over the years have been mostly positive, though not always what I wanted. I am hopeful that the nearest Club will be able to reopen before too long. Iknow that there is a new puritanism among many younger gay men who think that anonymous hookups via apps are somehow okay but honest lust in a bathouse is not.
@@LockerNinety The baños arrived with the Spaniards, of course, and had arrived in Spain with the Moors. It is a different culture from the US and the baths are more like the ones in Turkey. They are unfortunately disappearing due to the expense of maintenance.
It’s worth noting that the experience in bathhouses or saunas can be different depending on the country you are in. It’s not complicated they are safe, they are as safe as the people that use them. Just as they are as clean as the people that use them. They all have hard working staff that clean around the clock but they can’t be everywhere at all times especially during busy periods. Your experience with bathhouses in the states (I’m guessing) is a bit different to what I’ve experienced in Europe. They are incredibly safe and have to be clean because of the different regulations they are held under. The individual councils in the UK are kind of positive about them because they create safe spaces for guys to meet rather than in public places. Most saunas here won’t ever take information from you, unless they have a membership option even then they information is minimal. If you’re closeted don’t fear going because if you see someone you know there, they are also gay, maybe also closeted, they won’t out you, it would be mutually destructive. Best way to cruise is show respect to others and don’t fear rejection. I waste no time in showing my interest. Again cultures in different countries react to grabbing differently, in some countries grabbing and touching someone sleeping is almost expected, the person will almost always wake up and continue the fun, I saw this a lot in Japan.

I was buddies with a former manager of a bathhouse. He was the manager during the 1970's and 1980's and I never went to a bathhouse until the early 1990's. He died of a heart attack around 1995 but he had some wild stories to tell. One was that the bathhouse use to be raided by the police all of the time (in this city) until they got rid of the orgy rooms. This bathhouse use to have two orgy rooms...one big and one small and there were mats all over the floor...that was the only furniture. The orgy rooms were before my time. But my buddy told me that the only light was a tiny little red light in the center of the ceiling. It was apparently a tiny little light that you would find on a Christmas tree. Just enough light so you wouldn't trip over someone but not enough to make out their face. In order to enter this bathhouse you had to surrender your driver's license to the bathhouse manager for your entire and stay there. That was a good idea because it put everyone on their best behavior. My friend said that one day this twenty year old kid came from to the manager's window crying. My friend asked what was wrong. The kid said, "I think I just had sex with my dad in the orgy room. Would you please check his driver's license to confirm it? My dad is forty years old." My friend the manager said, "You know I can't do that." The kid left crying. However, my buddy couldn't resist checking for himself. My friend checked through the driver's licenses for someone forty years old with the same last name and yes you guessed it...the kid had sex with dear old dad. I wonder if the kid waited outside the bathhouse for his dad to walk out. I would have.

The police may ask more money for the security reasons and the bathhouse owner may refused then there they go, they will find reason to break the bathhouse. I was referring to the "wet areas" where nudity is the norm: the steamrooms, the saunas, the jacuzzis, and the showers. In those areas, it is customary to hang your towel on a hook or bar and go naked. And, of course, you tend to be nude in the small private rooms you rent to take guys back to. But you can stay as covered up as you want in the public areas and no one will judge you -- provided you don't judge the guys who prefer nudity. 😊
@@markmh835 You only "rent" those rooms in the US. In all other countries, they are included in the entrance fee, which also tends to be lower than in the US.
I have used bathhouses that have rooms to avoid Driving Under The Influence Tickets, after a night of partying. Also as a place to take a guy that I just met vs going to his place or mine. I even use them for Grindr,Ect. Hookups. It is much safer that way than random hookups in a park or cruising ground.

Thank you for bringing up the bath house experience. It triggered fond memories of my life, a long time past. Hope you don’t mind, I thought I’d like to tell you of my first experience at the baths.
I was at the ‘tubs’ 3-5 times a week in the seventies, that’s what lot of guys called them. My favorite place at that time was Called the “8709” which was located at 8709 ‘3rd’ street in West Hollywood. It wasn’t long and the name sort of became ‘3rd street’. In the beginning, I was insecure about my looks, like lots (most) guys, I had body issues but on my very first visit, I became a member and when I had met all the qualifications and paid the fee, I was buzzed in the front door where I was met at the counter just inside and handed a ‘small’ white towel and a locker key on an elastic band,that was so you could wear it around you wrist so it was out of the way and you wouldn’t lose it. I found my locker and as I stripped naked a very cute, totally naked guy walked right up to me and said, “ I saw you come in and watched you timidly take off your clothes, I guessed it was your first time. You seemed nervous as you slowly undressed, it took you forever to pull down your Underware. I found this very sweet and innocent. I just want to tell you what a hot young body you have”. I was embarrassed and shy and barely looking at him Then he said, “please turn around”. I turned and faced him. He he pointed at his crotch as he said, “see this is what seeing you does to me.” He was fully aroused. Great topic! Bathhouses just aren't the same anymore and many are closing their doors. However, I do think men still need places to go for anonymous encounters. A great alternative are Korean Spas. If you never been its basically a wet area and a sleep room. No bathing suits are allowed so everyone is nude. They also offer massages and body scrubs. I really think this could be a profitable business. You don't need a lot of space and instead of rooms like bathhouses what I would do if I owned one would be to install private shower stalls with benches inside. Easy, no mess. I would also offer body scrub services but would set it up inside a steam room. Biggest complaint men have are getting too cold during the scrubs. I would also offer good customer service and be a men's only place. Moving more towards wellness and relaxation is the way to go. You will definitely have happy customers. I hope someone opens one in Austin. A booming gay population here with no spa to go to. If I had the money I'd open one myself.

I went into more detail in the second video but basically... it’s going to depend on the place. I feel like most places are okay with trans guests. My bath didn’t care what gender our customers presented as or if they were transitioning or anything, we just needed their ID to indicate that they were male. I would let y’all in regardless tho...

Thanks for your informative and honest video. I have always felt more comfortable in bath houses than in bars, for various reasons. My experiences over the years have been mostly positive, though not always what I wanted. I am hopeful that the nearest Club will be able to reopen before too long. Iknow that there is a new puritanism among many younger gay men who think that anonymous hookups via apps are somehow okay but honest lust in a bathouse is not.

@@LockerNinety The baños arrived with the Spaniards, of course, and had arrived in Spain with the Moors. It is a different culture from the US and the baths are more like the ones in Turkey. They are unfortunately disappearing due to the expense of maintenance.

It’s worth noting that the experience in bathhouses or saunas can be different depending on the country you are in. It’s not complicated they are safe, they are as safe as the people that use them. Just as they are as clean as the people that use them. They all have hard working staff that clean around the clock but they can’t be everywhere at all times especially during busy periods.
Your experience with bathhouses in the states (I’m guessing) is a bit different to what I’ve experienced in Europe.
They are incredibly safe and have to be clean because of the different regulations they are held under. The individual councils in the UK are kind of positive about them because they create safe spaces for guys to meet rather than in public places.
Most saunas here won’t ever take information from you, unless they have a membership option even then they information is minimal.
If you’re closeted don’t fear going because if you see someone you know there, they are also gay, maybe also closeted, they won’t out you, it would be mutually destructive.
Best way to cruise is show respect to others and don’t fear rejection. I waste no time in showing my interest.
Again cultures in different countries react to grabbing differently, in some countries grabbing and touching someone sleeping is almost expected, the person will almost always wake up and continue the fun, I saw this a lot in Japan.

I was buddies with a former manager of a bathhouse. He was the manager during the 1970's and 1980's and I never went to a bathhouse until the early 1990's. He died of a heart attack around 1995 but he had some wild stories to tell. One was that the bathhouse use to be raided by the police all of the time (in this city) until they got rid of the orgy rooms. This bathhouse use to have two orgy rooms...one big and one small and there were mats all over the floor...that was the only furniture. The orgy rooms were before my time. But my buddy told me that the only light was a tiny little red light in the center of the ceiling. It was apparently a tiny little light that you would find on a Christmas tree. Just enough light so you wouldn't trip over someone but not enough to make out their face. In order to enter this bathhouse you had to surrender your driver's license to the bathhouse manager for your entire and stay there. That was a good idea because it put everyone on their best behavior. My friend said that one day this twenty year old kid came from to the manager's window crying. My friend asked what was wrong. The kid said, "I think I just had sex with my dad in the orgy room. Would you please check his driver's license to confirm it? My dad is forty years old." My friend the manager said, "You know I can't do that." The kid left crying. However, my buddy couldn't resist checking for himself. My friend checked through the driver's licenses for someone forty years old with the same last name and yes you guessed it...the kid had sex with dear old dad. I wonder if the kid waited outside the bathhouse for his dad to walk out. I would have.

There used to be a sweet older man that came in who would always bring me fruit to eat on my break-oranges, apples, bananas, and once persimmons. Never in my life had persimmons before.

In my country you get arrested for going to bathhouse if the police suspect there's a sexual activity LOL. The most well known bathhouse were closed down and it became national news. I feel bad for the men who got ashamed because they were literally naked and forced to the police office. The police may ask more money for the security reasons and the bathhouse owner may refused then there they go, they will find reason to break the bathhouse.
