Bill, I have over 30 years experience working on F-16s as a maintainer/crew chief with the Air National Guard. I've been retired 10 years now. All of the sounds you describe are very familiar to me but I never heard it described so funny. I too got to experience a back seat ride. It was incredible. Better than the best roller coaster ride!

We did 4vs4 Red versus Blue air to air dogfighting!!! Needless to say…it’s life changing. The sheer professionalism from these pilots and ground crew is so humbling and awe inspiring! The death valley thing happened to us! We were driving from Mammoth to Vegas. It was summertime & we're already nervous about driving through Death Valley in the heat. SHOOOMMM!!! F-16 flies over us from behind, not more than 50 feet above. Scared the 💩 out of us!
When I was a kid my dad was stationed at Nellis. We lived off base, but would regularly see military aircraft fly over. One day I am playing outside and a Thunderbird buzzed the rooftops of the apartment complex. It was so loud it felt like an earthquake. My dad was home at the time and came running outside to check on me. He asked "What was that?" I just said "Thunderbird." He was like "Oh, okay" and went back inside.

To myself, I found that I downloaded that video into a portable hard drive. Located it just a few days ago and I had to click on it right away. It was AWESOME to watch again and again, always will be as long as that hard drive lives as long as I do.
I wish I could get the fortunate to go up sometime! I’ve been a firefighter, Paramedic, and an RN, & driving fire trucks & ambulances is seriously FUN, but never got to go up in a helo or fighter plane. I’d almost be willing to pay for it if I had enough money! That would be awesome!!!

If you look at the cockpit of an F16, you are basically sitting most at the front of a machine that has 29 thousand pounds of thrust. It's not a Cessna on steroids. It still amazes me, but the fact that we have people who yawn and say, sure let's go fly in these things is humbling. Full of piss and vinegar they are. Back in the early 80s, I read a story of a Washington Post reporter that continuously ragged on the USAF and their expensive F15. He was invited to fly in the trainer model. He accepted, and as soon as the Eagle went vertical while still accelerating, spent the remainder of his 30 minute flight barfing with his head between his legs. What a lost opportunity.
