The one thing if I were Yip Man, that I would have taught my sons better that I would have taught anyone else. Especially having taught great students prior to his sons coming to HK in 1962. Meaning that if they could not be as good as the top studnets...they could become better at at least one thing. At BJD. That is why I applaud Ip Chun at his BJD...he is peerless.
I learnt private lessons from Master Ip Chun back in the early 80's in his place in Kowloon & he taught me all the WC techniques, of course including BJD. One day (in 1985) he asked few students to gather togehter in his place (I was 1 of them) & played GM Ip Man's 8mm of full WC techniques. By the end, he asked us a simple question,"Did I teach you anything different from my dad?" Of course, all of us said NO because he taught us exactly the same as Si Gung Ip Man showed in the 8mm.
Master Ip Chun then told us to spread WC in the same way. He also told us not to argue with the others if they said theirs real WC because we knew we really learnt GM Ip Man's WC. I have to say Master Ip Chun is a really nice person & never argue with anyone & he never cares about the others comments because he knows the facts. To me, in the lessons, I always : Watch, Think, Ask, Keep in Mind, Practice and Digest. I still remeber the lessons!! Time flies & I have to say life is really short.
I was young when I learnt BJD & I still felt the pair of knives were pretty heavy back then because they're stainless steel. Master Ip Chun was around 60 & he's really smooth when teaching BJD. He's over 80 now & It's good to see that he's still able to show BJD. For those who comment about the vid, just imagine whether you could play BJD like him when you're over 70, let alone over 80. Keep good thinkings & don't let bad things contaminate your mind. I think it's very important for learning.
@Yomoyo78 chu shong tin learned differently, I think yip man taught his first 9 students for free! chu shong tin being one of them, he taught them all the real wing chun, when he taught it to his sons and in hong kong he taught them his modernized improved wing chun thats why so many of his students have differences
@DMulah3 You're right, there are no grades in wing chun. But Leung Ting had created grades for his WingTsun (WT), and these are / were the plum bossoms. That's why Venomousjester wrote about his primary grade plum bossom. Best regards from Berlin / Germany!
I learned this form from Yip Chun 12 year's ago he is over 83 year's old Think about it.What you see is not all way's what you get.I do not show every thing in public that I know of wing chun a form is only a starting point. The ShiFu has given me much advice of thing's you do not see in his forms and maybe contradictory and I am not a diciple
well as I understand, Ip Chun did not learn the knives from Ip Man but from a student of Ip Man. That is what I have heard from pretty reliable sources. According to Ip Chun, Ip Man taught everyone the same. I have seen Ip Ching teaching the knives and even the first section here is different. Again, not to take away anything at all from IP Chun, a truly great master.
His form is certainly different than mine (from WSL) reagradless of the actually do positions the thing that surprises me the most is his body position and angling and horse... horse is very similar to the hand forms and his body faces foward most of the time... not angling off more like most other lineages... id want to see him Chi Do.. i feel it would be very different to how i spar with the Do.
no i havent seen ip chings version as i can recall i may have seen 1st 2 sections somewhere(they dont show the whole form)not in public(maybe in private). its not realy the form but it does help to know something. more on the applications and knowing the meanings in the form. i know ip man taught differently and accordingly to his students and had reasons for them. ours is different from these guys but i respect them for their knowledge and great ambassador/s to wing chun.
i've seen many versions but i know of only 1 version. its not just the form i know the applications as well. doing the form is nothing if you dont know the meanings, concepts & applications behind every move/s. give the man a break he did a lot to promote wing chun may not be as good as his father was but he is a great ambassador to wing chun. (saw this 2day & i just have 2 reply) time flies by when one is having fun. been training pole & bcd with sifu & not with the keyboard.hahahaha
Ip chun did not learn this from ip man. Ip ching did learn the knife form from ip man which is why their forms are different. Ip ching's full form is not on the net though. You have to get in touch with him or his students.
Im young(23), healthy and have 5 years of wing tsun training so my arms are pretty flexible but I dont think I have the range of movement Yip chun demonstrates here, even empty handed. The angle of the blade despite the size and weight of the broad sword is impressive. Ive held one of these and to flex the wrist in the way he does is no mean feat..
First of all, everyone looks bored-to-death! Second of all, just because your daddy was a formidable martial artist...hell, you know the rest! Third of all (and most important of all), we should all recognize that, even though his delivery is poor, we can still learn something from this performance (especially if there is no one else around to do the job).
@Venomousjester how is that negative I didnt even say it in a dis respectful way, It was a simple statement, idk why you took offense to it. but it is true there are no grades in wing chun. just dont want you to get cheated out of your money and learn the traditional art
very impressive all things considered but... i know its a demo but why waste your energy and internal power when using weapons unless theyre blunt knives that couldnt slice a loaf of bread? you dont need to farjin with weapons really unless you want to look good and waste energy
its true. how am i bullshitting? Have you seen ip ching's form? i'm not saying ip chun's is shit or anything. just that its different from ip man and ip ching's.
hahaha u have way with words i hope know wing chun or any art as much as u portray urself 2b. i havent seen a single move from u just tox/talks.hahaha. i dont need to know where he learnt his form from for a start. i simply have respect for him and any1 else who pursue to excell in their chosen art. at least he share his knowledge. what do you share?
Bogus! What a shame. As a sifu, one does not even question the validity of certain stupid made up moves. One can hurt oneself with those bogus BCD movements. =(

Yip Man was Yip Man...Ip Chun is Ip Chun; period, point, blank!

gonna have to agree with Mofotox here...not to take anything away from Grandmaster Ip Chun, but if you look at Ip Ching's form, they are different...

@mofotox That's a understandable view from someone that seems to have an appreciation for Bum Fights. Regards.

if you compare the form with Ip Ching's they are different...
dude, it could just be that he has light knives. they're available widely.
Tracking! Why is no one adjusting the tracking! lol, thanks for the upload
i think wong shun leung's BJD was pretty good. did you see the "science of infighting" footage?
@Venomousjester There are no grades in wing chun....not sure why your school has grades
I do baat jum daoshu and it looks nothing like this.
to my knowledge they didn't and they don't....heard that from a someone close to them...wierd.
I'm actually with Sigung this weekend....I'll ask...but
I hear ya friend....I know Ip Ching's form and it is different
