Looking at the word it looks like a deminutive form of the Russian word for guilt which would express a type of guilt a person or society has to accept and live with forever. I will leave a link to the uncensored video at the end of this comment [it might be useful because there is a restricted and a radio-edit version out there]. Dir en grey have been working with the same video director for years and he used to make his own concepts for the videos after reading the lyrics. What he did with Vinushka is astonishing because in the lyrics the bombings aren't mentioned at all but it actually fits perfectly with the progression of the song [and even with the gothic metaphors in the middle part - which show to me that the song is not mainly about one event but a guilt running through history]. We have the two "explosions" in the song that could simulate the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki with the moment of quite in between where he shows black rain [radioactive ash] poinsoning land and people in between. The lyrics are more ambivalent and are concerned with karma and circles of destruction. If you watch the video pay attention to the beginning - Japanese soldiers celebrating their 'victories' [killings] on the mainland. When the atomic bombs where dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki [two cities where no soldiers where stationed and which mainly housed women, children and old people at the time] the war was already over - in fact America retaliated using a similar strategy Japan did when they planned their attack on Pearl Harbor - Japan did not give the American government time to receive their letter of war, America ignored the countries surrender claiming problems with the translation [it's quite astonishing how they manage to uphold that image even today when recordings and time frames are public. But America also hid Japan's war crimes for centuries during and after the occupation, possibly to keep other countries from knowing about them after they had 'confiscated' the results/knowledge - some of it can later be found in the Vietnam war]. As a form of retaliation it's incredible though as Pearl Harbor was a military standpoint and the people who died where all soldiers. But now keep those first images in mind - Japan's triumphs in Korea, China, Russia - mass murder, human experimentations, unimaginable pain caused to others for the most depraved of reasons [power, expension] . What the video shows and what the lyrics tell also perfectly fits with what an elderly Japanese person wrote to me when I asked about his thoughts on the atomic bombings. He told me that it was karma. They had done wrong and so they have been wronged. And isn't that the most weirdly ironic thing? Because the country who attacked Japan had almost nothing to do with their actual crimes. It's not difficult to see in this some sort of divine intervention. But looking at how America reacts to any attack on their own soil I would personally beg to differ. That is only my standpoint though so I will leave this out of here ^^' But if at least some people in Japan believe this to have been karma, I wonder when karma will hit almost every other country in the word since there are so many colonizing countries responsible for one sided wars and mass murders it seems impossible to find one that doesn't "deserve" some form of retaliation. I feel like more schools need to teach their pupils the wrongs of their own countries and only later show how they might relate to the rest of the world. Amazing comment, Passio, as always! Just a small note - as a native speaker, I would not call Vinushka a neologism (don't really get why people believe it is), to me it sounds like an archaic word that you would see in folklore, fables, fairytales etc., we have a lot of such pairs with diminutive (and hypocoristic) suffixes like вина/винушка, дума/думушка, горе/горюшко and so on, they even come together in sentences for expressiveness. So if I'm right and Kyo intended not just to make a title that would sound kinda like a russian word, but made it on purpose old-fashioned, then it makes many new ways to interpret the song (at least for me, I may just be a fangirl digging too deep :)) Anyway, this song hits too hard and it has become too personal these days...

dir en grey is a progresive avant garde metal band, The band throughout its career has combined and experimented with many sub-genres of metal such as death metal, groove metal, doom metal, trash metal, alternative, nu metal, metalcore, deathcore, etc. so it is impossible to pigeonhole it into one genre.
Seeing this band live was an experience unlike any other concert. I'm always fascinated by the different pronunciations. @@QueenAstroParticle I mean, I could pronounce it Direnga, like I do Gojira. People in America have no clue what I'm saying then tho. Where in America we usually pronounce each syllable with a more consistent speed. Ben Shapiro actually is an example of Japanese speed and flow but in English. There’s an uncensored video of this song where they show the injuries and other graphic details of the bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima they show really crazy imagery
Fuck man. I’m a die hard Metalhead and never gave these guys any attention but holy hell that was awesome! One hell of a performance! I reacted this with y’all! Cheers homies
Omfg it happened. I've asked you guys to react to this for over a entire year no joke, I wrecked your heads on spiral out Sundays and I know ya'll felt off on the track "Obscure" and was blocked and ya'll just said no to them. Believe it or not this is a average performance of this song. The song is about WW2 with the two bombings on Japan. I'm so happy ya'll clapped for it, I really am because it deserved it. Some say this is the Japanese Tool, I say Tool are trash compared to Dir en Grey. Best way to describe there music is prog metal though they fit into many genres. The patrion person who made this happen thank so so f-ing much. I hope you guys do more from Dir En Grey. I saw them in 08 in Ireland and never since because they have never come back.
You guys got it right with Vinushka's meaning in the lyrics. It's their jab at how Japan acted in WWII, so even in radio waves or TV shows they won't show this video. But yeah, they're talking crap about how Japan got bombed and "they deserved it" in the condescending lyrics. This isn't horror metal, but Kyo's vocal ability is horrifically awesome.
Obscure was like the first music video people started reacting to purely for it's shock content. It's a killer song for sure, but not exactly one that shows their talents. It's vindicating for the band that now everyone is having such strong and emotional reactions to one of their masterpiece songs. Kyo is a self taught vocalist and has had surgery on his vocal chords before, yet came back to grow more powerful with his voice over the years. Watching him on stage you can see he's a person driven by passion and sheer willpower.
There was a great band from Japan like ten years ago called Mad Capsule Markets. They had all different styles as well. Was a shame they never got big. Think a member started/plays with Babymetal though 🤘
They were pretty big throughout their entire carrier [from 1985-2006] but like Kahn said not so much outside of Japan although they had 8 international album releases and played a couple of concerts in America and Europe. They are also frequently mentioned by Dir en grey members as influential, and Kaoru [dir en grey's lead guitarist] actually plays in a Mad Capsule Markets cover band [although it seems the members mostly meet up to drink and eat together as each member's schedules rarely allows them to make serious plans for concerts together ^^' ]. The style thing is not so uncommon though and you will find a lot of bands experimenting with different sounds/styles within Rock/Metal from the 80s onwards.
This is not the best live for this song. But, I'm glad you guys are reacting to Dir en Grey. You guys are going to be impressed with his vocal range in other lives of them.
Pretty sure y'all were referring to my Patreon pick, back when I had extra cash for such things. My username was Hentai Surprise at the time, and the song was Hageshisa to, Kono Mune No Naka De Karamitsuita Shakunetsu No Yami. If you think that was graphic, the studio video for Vinushka blows it away, lol. I was introduced to Dir En Grey back in '08(?) when they coheadlined Apocalyptica's 7th Symphony tour in North America. First time I heard them was live in a small venue in Denver, and I've been hooked ever since.
I saw these guys when they came to London and the equipment could not cope with the range of Kyos voice. Concert had to be stopped twice and Dir en Grey were getting really angry about having to stop to keep fixing equipment.
The name of the band pronounced like DEER en grey, just this EE sound is short. Only thing in russian language called "babushka" is grandmother. Traditional woman russian hair, ehm, thing (big triangle one) called "kokoshnik" and toy you can see in russian souvenir shops is "matryoshka" that somehow western foreigners start to call it "babushka" too. Word "Vinushka" is probably made up by Kyo from russian word "vina" which means "guilt" but with this "-ushka" ending it turn into something like "little guilt" almost endearment. I don't know why he did it but he is known for his interest in russian language, it appears in one of their MV, he has (or had) tattoo in russian and they even have whole song in russian (can't understand a word tho).
Espectacular grupo su estilo de música abarca diferentes estilos son magníficos un tema que tienen the world no mercy es uno de muchos temas fantásticos que tienen saludos desde Chile
This ong is about atomic bombing in Japan and the evil who exist in human- but what is malice? who defines it whoi is evil and who not and can a evil person be good? This is my interpretation, but with like any other DIR song, its up to you what you think about it. The song is from 2008 and Kyo evolved much since then. Also i think the video for this song is cencored, because it includes real drawing pictures of survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They exist since 25 years in exact the same band formation. They changed visually and musically drastically over the years. They have many fans around the world and are extremely different with each song. There strength are there extreme inversive lyrics, and the ability to show emotions over language barriers so intense during live shows. There lyrics are the key for their succsess and their songs. They always portray something bad, social taboos, human grief, despair, feelings of loosing someone, being lost and so on. Kyo the singer write all the songs. Sometimes he sing from the perspective of the victim, sometimes from the perpetrators side, sometimes of himself. Songs about loss, rape, depression, social isolation and so on. They never make happy songs. The videos or lyrics of them got often cencoured. And especially in Japan where talking about issues in generall and as a individual person feels often very lost, this is another topic. They often remade/remaster their own songs of older times. Like T.D.F.F. I showed you down under. Also they are one of the rare bands who are live so much better than on record. The singer Kyo, is may small- 5´2 feet- but he have such a powerfull voice. The other band members are extremely talented with their instruments. When you once fall in Dir En Grey, you can not get out. It is the best band I heared, read and saw live in my live. I saw them live and it was a blast, forget everything you know, they carry you of on a journey of emotions, deep evil in human soul, pain, grief and human being live and on record and video. I really never experinced a band who touched my heart and soul so much with their lyrics and lives. It´s unbelievable. Saw them live in Japan and my country a few times and it was the best experience I had with a live band. The pronounced Dir En Grey-> ´Deer ahn grey´may in english . I think at 3:10 you nearly pronounced it right. The a in the ´en´ is very short. The r is more a rolling sound. There name is a mixture of frenche, german and english, as they are sometimes use french and english and german in their song names and songs. Kyo is an absolute autodidact and destroyed his chords two times. But he have on of the most vertale voices in music genre. From high pitch screams, to low growls flawless in seconds. Sorry english is not my mothertongue, so its hard to explain how they pronounced in english. With every song, with every video and with every lyric you will be more fascinated by them and be suprised that they surprise you with something you never expect. I saw many youtubers who just reacted to them and then got really into them after a while or was then so into them then that they visited a live show. I have to say that they evolved so much and especially Kyo got nearly unbelievable talented what his singing and voice abilities are over the last ten years. Kyo puts 200% in his live shows. They have ballads, metal songs, poppy songs, rock songs, jazzy songs and so on. They released 14 albums until now: Missa 1997 Gauze 1999 Macabre 2000 Six Ugly 2002 Kisou 2002 (it is their most selling album until today) Vulgar 2003 Withering to death 2005 (since then they toured outside Japan and had extremely succsessfull concerts. Like in Germany their concert wa sold out in 3 hours without any promo or commercial for it) The marrow of a bone 2007 (they toured with Korn, Stone Sour etc..) Urobouros 2008 (since then they changed their style again dramastically) Dum Spiro Spero 2011 (since here the singer began too improve so insanely, also the songs was like you travel into a demon, surreal world) The unraveling 2013 Arche 2014 The insulated world 2018 Phalaris 2022 They are in their late 40ies now and have still crazy energy and the crowd in their hand. Kyo have just started his third band recently. Their latest live on video is "the final days of studio coast". May please react to: Macabre: ruclips.net/video/PWI2PrpnFg8/видео.html Diabolos: ruclips.net/video/DggLg2kl9RY/видео.html T.D.F.F. (the domestic fucker family) : ruclips.net/video/SVzcXy_ESu0/видео.html Embryo: ruclips.net/video/wL2xeXmAy5Y/видео.html Inconvenient Ideal: ruclips.net/video/i1hDgn6gNNI/видео.html The world of Mercy: ruclips.net/video/v_ynTNLCB6s/видео.html and if you want for comparison, how they was earlier, here is one oif their first music videos: Jealous: ruclips.net/video/DFC4B4hVU0A/видео.html Ash: ruclips.net/video/YbYXgOGKPlg/видео.html from them. This is just a tiny bit of them and it is so diverse. ... They was back in the late 90ies and 2000 in Visual kei-> underscene: Kote Kei, and they characterized this subgenre of music. Then they got more into progressive rock and then in metal. But they are so unique and special you can not describe it. I would be very glad, if you react to them. One song is far not enough to make yourself a picture of this mammoth project Dir En Grey.
If you guys see the whole MV of thisbsong or.. even when they show on background when they perform First part of song are about when the Japanese soldiers do some bad things for the opposition And second part is when Japanese got a atomic bomb as a karma. This maybe a part of the song meanings. Love your reaction!
Just a note on Kyo's power... dude is 5'3. I've seen this live a its every bit insane as it looks. right now I'm on a plane to Japan to see Die En Grey for 2 nights, hoping to see this live again.
5'3 and shake an entire venue with his voice. I've been to a lot of shows, and never before could I feel the vibrations of the vocalist in my feet.... Random as fuck though that is. XD
@@bellesorciere8932 I'm leaving on Nov 16th, to go see Diru again at Zepp Haneda for 2 nights. The shows at Namba were insane!!! The energy if the lives in Japan are so much higher than anywhere else.
I was pleasantly surprised to see how quick you guys got to this. It's pronounced Aku-Mace. From what I've gathered is it's about the retaliation from the Pearl Harbor attack and how they as a whole got demonized by the US then got two nukes dropped on them killing and maiming so many innocents. A lot of their music is thought provoking to me and they have such a unique style and it's always gripping to me.
kyo's vocal range goes from e1-f7 and he be a tenor he also be partially deaf in his left ear and has been since like 2000 and if'n ya get the chance go see them live they be awesome live
I just stumbled upon this video and watched it because I was curious how rappers would react to my alltime favorite band. This song is about the atomic bomb, as you could see in the short sequences that were taken from the VINUSHKA video. Concerning their music genre, most times they are described as prog metal/metalcore/deathcore band, but as a fan for over 23 years I can just say that DIR EN GREY is a genre of its own. Oh, and they don't like being compared to Marilyn Manson. :D Thanks for being open minded!
@All3coasts haha no, they did a reaction to the Foo Fighters song The Pretender some time ago… RUclips took it down 👎🏽 Now that you mention the Pretenders, I wouldn’t mind a Middle of the Road or Message of Love reaction 😊
Nice insights from you guys. Yes on the surface the bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima are referenced, but this is representative of the broader concept of human conflict and cruelty. Kyo's lyrics are never "about" any one thing, that would be too simplistic haha he likes to keep us thinking.

Where in America we usually pronounce each syllable with a more consistent speed. Ben Shapiro actually is an example of Japanese speed and flow but in English. I just now drew this connection and maybe his cadence won't annoy me as much anymore, and I can focus on being annoyed by awful takes instead.
That was probably "Agitated Screams of Maggots Unplugged'
I got to see their 2009 tour in NYC and lost it when Kyo did that. To date, one of the best live shows I've seen
If you want to check out the video version, search for "Vinushka Remastered," because the official one is censored with a lot of black screens.
Here the link anyway ruclips.net/video/9rkz1YJ3MOU/видео.html
@@egosirius This is the official pv. The uploader simply put the remastered audio version from Vinushka over it [they remastered the entire UROBOROS album a few years after its release because the band wasn't satisfied with the original mix.] The pv was released simultaneously in three versions - a shortened radio-edit, a restricted and an unrestricted version [they had to black out certain images for it be to be played on certain channels and in different countries].
Emotional journey…. Such a powerful live performance
I just got back into Dir En Grey like 2 days ago perfect timing
Dir en Grey are such an awesome band, I HIGHLY recommend checking their stuff out! Very diverse catalogue 👍🏼
They're wild to see live. Heavy or soft, the whole set has that kind of intensity to it.
Best description for DEG I've heard is : Progressive Avant Garde Deathcore.
You really need to see the video for "different sense" lmao that reaction would be epic 😄
Dir En Grey are great
Thank you so much for reacting to these guys.
I would like this one million times if I could, PLEASEEEE do more Dir En Grey!!
These guys are fantastic! I couldn't imagine a world without them. Please check out different sense by Dir en grey.
Kyo is an absolute insane vocalist! But also the bassist Toshiya and drummer Shinya are also top notch!
One of the best live versions here.
Really good to see you appreciate this kind of music 😊 I would to see you reacting to more of them 🤘🏼
They are amazing!
Motionless in White - masterpiece 🙏💯🔥
There was a great band from Japan like ten years ago called Mad Capsule Markets. They had all different styles as well. Was a shame they never got big. Think a member started/plays with Babymetal though 🤘
Mad Capsule Markets were pretty big 30 years ago just not outside Japan much. Maximum the Hormone are greatly influenced by them
They were pretty big throughout their entire carrier [from 1985-2006] but like Kahn said not so much outside of Japan although they had 8 international album releases and played a couple of concerts in America and Europe.
Independence by Nul Positiv, the drummer is insane and the vocals are amazing. I feel that you guys would love it
im supposed to be convinced that theyre rappers when homeboy is wearing a fucking motorhead shirt! LMAO! i fuckin love motorhead and RIP Lemy !
This was definitely before his nodes were removed too. Now he’s even crazier.
Yall must have watched Obscure
Espectacular grupo su estilo de música abarca diferentes estilos son magníficos un tema que tienen the world no mercy es uno de muchos temas fantásticos que tienen saludos desde Chile
Incubus - Just a Phase (From the Morning View Sessions).
Perfect song for this channel. Deceptively chill intro but I know you guys will love it.
They released 14 albums until now:
Missa 1997
Gauze 1999
Macabre 2000
Six Ugly 2002
Kisou 2002 (it is their most selling album until today)
Vulgar 2003
Withering to death 2005 (since then they toured outside Japan and had extremely succsessfull concerts. Like in Germany their concert wa sold out in 3 hours without any promo or commercial for it)
The marrow of a bone 2007 (they toured with Korn, Stone Sour etc..)
Urobouros 2008 (since then they changed their style again dramastically)
Dum Spiro Spero 2011 (since here the singer began too improve so insanely, also the songs was like you travel into a demon, surreal world)
The unraveling 2013
Arche 2014
The insulated world 2018
Phalaris 2022
They are in their late 40ies now and have still crazy energy and the crowd in their hand. Kyo have just started his third band recently.
Their latest live on video is "the final days of studio coast".

from them.
If you guys see the whole MV of thisbsong or.. even when they show on background when they perform
First part of song are about when the Japanese soldiers do some bad things for the opposition
And second part is when Japanese got a atomic bomb as a karma.
This maybe a part of the song meanings.
Love your reaction!
The music video is great, you should watch it if you can. 😊
You guys should do more dir en grey
kyo's vocal range goes from e1-f7 and he be a tenor he also be partially deaf in his left ear and has been since like 2000 and if'n ya get the chance go see them live they be awesome live
Thanks for being open minded!
Y'all... I feel the need to bring y'all back to some Mike Patton for a minute. I'm suggesting Carousel from Mr. Bungle. It's a trip.
Yeah I’m still bummed that RUclips permanently took down your video for the Foo Fighters “The Pretender” ☹️
@All3coasts haha no, they did a reaction to the Foo Fighters song The Pretender some time ago… RUclips took it down 👎🏽
Now that you mention the Pretenders, I wouldn’t mind a Middle of the Road or Message of Love reaction 😊
Next Dir En Grey - Ain't Afraid To Die Live...this song so emotionals....please check for next
Dir en greys meaning has been and still is:
To express the pain and suffering caused by Human Selfishness.
Horror core/ punk would be: The Misfits
how on earth can you say that that singer sounds like Peter Steela??..😁😆🤣
😂😂😂 were still learning lol
yes, this song is about hiroshima and nagasaki, and the song have a oficial video ( here the link) ruclips.net/video/NdceudJz8jA/видео.html
i also recomend their song diabolos (here a link of a live with eng subs) ruclips.net/video/DggLg2kl9RY/видео.html

The way you described your memory of the first song you listened to kind of sounded exactly like the same one.
I'd call Twiztid horrorcore metal, or at least close.
