  • I just couldn't stand this electric pump anymore. I just HAD to rip out a fully functioning water system just to finally get a beloved foot pump in our van.
    Here I test and install a Whale GP0550 Gusher Galley Pump (non-sponsored)
    www.amazon.com...
    (It just went on SALE for just $48!)
    BEST DECISION EVER!
    This could be controversial - but I would advise anyone to also get a foot pump for their vans, busses, campers etc. Except maybe if you plan to shower that way.

    The editing is this was a lot of fun, good job! I was on the fence between an electric and foot pump for my van build. I was already leaning towards a foot pump and this video has helped even more.

    Appreciate you sharing!! Super helpful as I bought an electric pump but realized that a manual pump might be easier. The mouse door was an amazing idea :)

      Glad you found it useful! Hope you can still return it, haha. And this setup has been working great for us in the past 3 months of using it full time. :) Good luck on your build!

    Another option is a battery powered USB water dispenser faucet. It's cheap, quiet, and super simple to install.

    • @lisasomewhere88
      @lisasomewhere88  Год назад +3

      True, that's a good option, too! However this one doesn't particularly help conserving water.

    Love your passion for the foot pump, flow looks really good with this one.
    Only ridiculous how that pump is now 110 dollars!

      Oh no, they upped the price quite a bit! But I would still always choose it! :) Still no leaks or any problems after 6+ months full time use.

    I was planning on installing a normal one, didn't know they done one called the gusher, I'm buying in just for that reason 🤣

    I appreciate you not editing out every pause. I find it weird when the video skips every other word. What are they doing during that time? Did the light in the room changed? How many days have passed while recording this one sentence?
    2:40 I didn't even know a silencing kit existed, thanks for the info.
    My unfinished trailer will have a shower so I'll install an electric pump. I don't want that pump on unless doing something water intensive like dishes or showering. One specific need will be washing hands at night in the bathroom. My hope is that the accumulator will be good enough for silent less-intensive water use, but if it can't maintain the water pressure then I was thinking of installing one of the whale foot pumps. I don't want make any holes in the shower floor (for the wet-bath sink), but maybe I can adhere a babyfoot pump down there. It would probably be more fun telling people I nailed or screwed a baby foot to my trailer floor though. I could also attach it to a board big enough that I step on it with one foot while pumping with the other. I wonder if I could put the whale pump in parallel with the electric pump to charge up the accumulator at night. Now I'm rambling. Nobody expected the Spanish Inquisition!

      Haha, nothings gets unnoticed! :)
      Well those kits exist but I don't know if it did much tbh.
      I guess it depends how much space you have for that accumulator. The bigger, the better for sure. We used the smallest one. When I had the baby whale in my Astro I never screwed it down and it didn't need it. If you prefer something more "in place" I think even velcro or duct tape would be enough. That's definitely a good easy silent solution. :)

    Awesome! I always figured the water wastage with electric pumps and couldn't understand why vanlifers used them when every once of water has to be hauled in! I have a platform (sort of) that was already on big blue on the outside on the back that was there when I bought the van. It is gravity fed and I have total control of the water.
    I would like to see more vids from you??

    How interestingyou went from electric back to manual pump - and you are the first video I've watched which really demonstrated the noise! That's very loud even with the door closed and interesting you say it doesn't always work that well either - thank you - really appreciate this video you didfrom your experience.

    Nice video, thanks. Are there times, like when filling a pot with water to boil pasta, when the foot pump is a bit slower than you would like?

    • @lisasomewhere88
      @lisasomewhere88  Год назад +3

      Thank you! No, even when filling our water filter/pasta pot it seems like a good flow, especially since the gusher pumps both ways. No regrets. :)

    I think you might have changed my mind, I started off by thinking I would just watch for fun.
    I am still worried that one of my feet will do all the work, so I might try to put mine in the middle. ( only half joking)

    • @lisasomewhere88
      @lisasomewhere88  Год назад +2

      Haha, nice! We´re both loving it! Your foot doesn´t really have to work too much. Mostly it´s gentle pushes to get what you want. But with a mid-location you definitely have more flexibility.

    Hi, can you pivot off your heal or must you lift to the foot to press down, Thank you

    • @lisasomewhere88
      @lisasomewhere88  11 месяцев назад +2

      I mainly do lift the foot as the lever is quite high (and we added padding making it even higher). If you want to pivot, the "Baby Whale" pump would be better.

    Hi! How did you figure out which pieces you needed starting at 6:10? I am planning on doing this system too, but even though it is so simple, the compression fittings are confusing to me. Thanks for your time!

    • @lisasomewhere88
      @lisasomewhere88  5 месяцев назад

      Hi! Yes, I was very confused too! Started with just going to Homedepot, seeing what kinds of connections there are in the first place, and the terminology. Basically knowing the name/size/material of what you want to connect with the plastic tube (but for faucets most compression fittings are the same), and then just seeing with which connector you can get a bit closer to it. Also just googling what end you want to connect to another end, helped a lot. There’s a lot out there but not everything, so you need some inbetween connectors usually.
      Installing the foot pump needed much less pieces than with the electrical pump though, so that’s a plus. :) Good luck on the install! 💪We haven’t had a leak/problem with that system at all after 2+ years. 👍

    Hello, Whats the difference between the right and left models?

    • @lisasomewhere88
      @lisasomewhere88  Год назад +2

      Only difference is that the tubes connect either on the right or left side. Depending on your set up/cabinet maybe only one model would work for you, but they work exactly the same.
