      Thanks! It's been so fun and interesting for me to be able to dream up the perfect house and yard for me, and then to make it happen. And very interesting to watch the landscaping grow up, and to make little tweaks along the way.

    Thanks for sharing Jim! Great to have multiple fiber internet companies to choose from! We have fiber here in Indiana but just one company and as they grow, the customer service has dropped quite a bit. When Comcrap (not a typo) is their only competitor, the bar is set pretty low.

    Congrats! I'm an ex-Californian also three years into my current house and about four years removed from California. My money goes SO much further! Hence, my new G scale addiction. LOL =)

    You, Jim Zim, not only have a good travel agent Caitlin Gallagher of Ambren Travel, but you also have a real estate agent, Jordan Barnhill!
    You have booked a cruise on Icon of the Seas by Royal Caribbean International on February of next year with your travel agent Caitlin Gallagher of Ambren Travel!

    Looks like a Great Place to Retire. Like you chose going North instead of heading south. Just wondering what the large machine was in the craft room? looks like a large printer or sewing machine?

    How cold does it get there in the winter?

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim  Год назад

      In January and February it typically gets down in to the mid 20s at night, with daytime highs in the 40s or 50s. Every now and then there might be an extremely cold night... it got down to 8 degrees one night this last winter, but that doesn't happen very often.
      The thing that's unusual about our winter weather is how little snow there is. This last winter, I think there were only three points where we got more than an inch of snow. The heaviest snowfall I've seen in three years here was about 10 inches over a period of a couple of days... and that only happened once in three years. A couple of inches of snow, about three times during the course of the winter, seems to be the normal here. I do have a snowblower to clear off my driveway and all that cement in the backyard... but it doesn't get much use!
      The way I look at it is that we get just enough snow for it to be fun when it happens... but not enough snow that it becomes a problem. Of course, I'm fortunate to be retired... so, I don't have to be at a job at a particular time in the morning. If we do get some snow, I'm under no pressure to get my car going to be at some job at a particular time. So, there's no pressure on me to clear my driveway at any particular time, or to drive on roads that may be slick for a while. I can take my time, clear the driveway when I feel like it, and wait a day or two for the snow to melt off the roads before heading out for anything. That's a definite benefit of being retired.

    What kinds of trees did you use to make the privacy screen next to the hot tub? They look great.

      Those are Leyland Cypress trees. Aren't they gorgeous?!? If I were to do the whole yard landscaping thing over, I would probably plant Leyland Cypresses around the edge of the entire back yard. One of the coolest things about them is that they can be purchased extremely inexpensively at Lowes and Home Depot.

    Did you get your trees from Job's Nursery?

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim  Год назад +1

      No, they're way too expensive for me. There's a nursery not far from there with MUCH lower prices. It's called Barrera Nursery. The address is 470 Haworth Road in Pasco.

    Did the planned koi pond get scrapped?

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim  Год назад

      It did. I did a test pond, and had a heck of a time keeping it algae-free.

    • @mattstrainroom
      @mattstrainroom Год назад

      @@JimZim Shade and aquatic plants are your friend, Jim. Plus, a little algae isn't an issue. In the height of the summer if it got unusually bad, I used a chemical called Algaefix that was a miracle cure. I absolutely loved the 3 ponds we had at our old home. Difficult to recreate that in a 19th flood condo...at least I still have the trains! I'd encourage another go at it!

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim  Год назад

      Being up north, we get really long summer days... tons and tons of sunshine... and temps over 100 degrees for months. I know that a little algae is OK, but with all that sunshine we ended up with a lot of algae, in spite of plants in the pond and chemical treatments. I figured it was going to be an even more difficult battle with a much bigger, permanent pond... and I wasn't up for the fight!
