Hi Yan 👋🏻 we celebrated this in Malaysia too... the largest one is held at Johor ancient temple Chingay festival - the grandest deities parade in Malaysia . I'm so glad that we kept most of the chinese traditions here 🎉.
Your programming is such a blessing. While I spent eight years living and traveling in China, I now realize that I missed out on some wonderful culturally rich traditions and festivals because I did not know about them. Also, traveling during one of the golden weeks is a horrible experience for me. I do hope that China and other journalistic organizations reward you for your outstanding work.
Well i admire the strong tradition festivities. In the Netherlands we have traditions that been to much regulated. What makes the festivities die down. So our traditions and folklore is getting week. That is no good for a country. So keep them up and keep the strong bond.
In my hometown, they celebrated the deity parade more than CNY too.on the 15th,few lucky men were selected to dress up as the deities.they needed to undergo few rituals and needed to fast where they can only eat veggies and no meat few days earlier.let me tell you, these men-deities werent drunk but they werent lucid, sort of being possessed.they will wear heavy fanciful garments, barefoot and have their faces pierced with long thin rod or small knives, sometimes on their cheeks, sometimes their tounges.the procession will be lead by the lion dances from selected house to house.then followed by these deities on foot.there were many palenquins carrying sort of small pagodas by other men.but these deities will be lead by a 'shaman?' and a god of wealth.at the houses they stopped, they will be blessing the house owners and finished it up by walking away from the house through fire or hot coals. Yes,the women werent in the procession and any onlookers needed to stay far behind from the men. When i was a child and being curious, they will scare me when i got too close by saying if the deities saw me,they will kidnap me and carry me away because im a girl and im wearing red.so i ran back home and hide for the rest of the day.
Thanks for sharing! Sure would like to know what hometown you are from with this deity parade! Sounds very intense with face piercing, fasting and shamanic rituals! Old China does not die! Chinese folks love their traditions, don’t they? Love to see photos or video of the parade. 👍
Thank you Little Chinese for covering the festival, happy to see the culture there. Lanterns are beautiful, very intense celebration with lots of enthusiasm and energy.Amazing fireworks too. Loved the vlog.
Literally, they're forcing the deities to say yes..hum..should try that method in other religions as well. LOLS..I always love to watch your videos. :)
It's quite present in a lot of culture to do some chance based divination but with a lot of "negociation" with the deities, allowing to rethrow the "chance" until you get good results. That said, i thing there is still the perception that if it takes too long, it might be that something isnt quite right (it's still divination after all)
This is my hometown. I am 60 years old and left there 50 years ago. It seems to me that people are participating in religion freely, just like in the old days.
Hi Yan! You are on the front row of leading women who depend on your own brain rather than on luck or some illusory power. The world is fast changing and "descendents" have to think fast and make their own choice and should be wise enough to take a path for happy living in the modern world where belief systems are finding no place anymore. It is up to them anyways. Lovely video dear! 😘❤
People like to say short attention spans are the norm now. I think it is that they cannot capture peoples interest for more than 30 seconds or so. Your videos pull me right in and nothing can distract me. I get so absorbed that the time flies by and Im always a bit sad to see it come to an end. Thank you for letting us live vicariously through you and for showing us so many fascinating and beautiful things.
I have seen photos of similar Lantern festivals, but never seen a video of such an event. I can sense the enthusiasm, and the seriousness of the locals wanting to celebrate this important day. The atmosphere can be Intimidating with so many people holding a club, so many fires, and so many fire crackers bursting. Let's hope for a new tradition to happen in the near future where females have a position in the festival, celebrating such an important day inclusively in the entire village. Thank you for the video, Yan.
I love these videos about Chinese festivals!! As someone otuside the culture, it's fascinating to me!!🤩 Thank you for not only sharing this, but also explaining the different traditions!!🙏🏽 I hope you enjoyed the Chinese New Year, Lantern Festivals and all the celebrations as well 💕
Very interesting ,The Lantern festival, Madam,I think you had the right idea to go to a quieter spot ,your only a Little lady, I never seen so many people in one time 40,000 people in the village, in my home Town of Biloela Central Qld ,there is only 5000 people in roughly 28,000 square Km ,it was a little frightening for me, I did enjoy the Fire Works & The Lanterns, I found it rather strange that Women werent allowed in the front Row, I thought if the Men didnt have a Mother how would they be Born and wouldnt be able do this, I have seen and old video in one area of China where the Girl child was drowned in the village & only boys were keeped by their Fathers & the Mothers were broken Hearted , It had taken a rather Elderly County Judge to stop this tragic drowning he was a wonderful Man, he had stopped this tradition from happening, He made new laws & helped the people make a better life for the Family, Girl Children were now Kept, These old traditions will change over time for the better, I like the Chinese New Year ,lots of food, & celebrations & loud Fire Crackers & Lantern Thank you Madam for a Great video, Cheers & Best Wishes, Keep Safe, Regards Trevor.W.Bacelli. Male sex selection preferences means less females of marriage age in China now..approx 7million "bare branches"..now.The recent reversal single child policy has come too late for them plus irreversible population decline sans net migration
The government wanted to change the tradition of favoring sons over daughters in 1949 and enacted corresponding laws, but the people still maintained this tradition, and now this traditional concept is gradually weakening among the people.
In order to maintain stable rule, ancient China emphasized agriculture over commerce and restricted people from migrating to other places. People's survival mainly depended on farming, and sufficient manpower was needed for the land to produce. Men obviously had more strength than women in farming, so having enough male adults in the family meant that more food could be produced and they would have more confidence in safeguarding the interests of the family. This led to the inevitable choice of favoring sons over daughters in agricultural society. Although there are very few people farming in rural China now, this concept has been embedded in culture for thousands of years and continues to this day.
One of the most fascinating videos I have seen. Wow, so many camera angles. You got in there and captured the energy and excitement of the lantern festival. Great video! Stellar filming and editing!
Hi Yan, Living in America I have never seen anything quite like this, Latinos are known for massive parties but so do people in China! 😊 Watching this video I see again and again many similarities between Asian and European ancient paganism. As much as we all seem different we are also alike! thank you so much for sharing these videos. 😊🙏
"insane" sure is the right word to describe the festivities but it looks fun. I bet the young men enjoyed these activities, I know I would. It brings me back to my childhood days.
I am Cantonese by descent. Love and miss the food you showed! Wow! I am amazed at the bon fires of straws in the alleys…seems so dangerous. Any fire accident could easily burn the town! There must be some fire prevention measures in place right?! The lanterns are very nice, and the enthusiasm of the celebrations is impressive indeed! Old China and traditions sure do not die ! Glad for that…but must include women in future celebrations!
Puning may be in Guangdong Province. But the people there are what we Malaysians call Teochew Nang (Chaozhou people). They speak a Minnan dialect; we Hokkians can understand them in Malaysia, as we are exposed to their speech. Besides Hokkian (Hokkien is not so accurately transliterated) is also Minnan. I think they call their place "Pou Ling" in Teochew. We have many Teochew people in Malaysia and Singapore. In Thailand, the majority of the Chinese and their descendants are Teochew. Teochew and Cantonese are not mutually comprehensible. By the way, I love Chaozhou cuisine; they're great.
Thank you for showing us this wild lantern festival! I much appreciate view of map. So many young Men & boys! I'm glad to see a strong & vital younger generation having so much fun & excitement. Marvelous way to blow off steam so to speak. I'm delighted your family cherished you as their daughter!
Wow, it is amazing that you find these fascinating village festivals in China. Love the way all the young men get involved to carry on the traditions. Great atmosphere. Love it.❤
Lantern Festival is my favorite day of Spring Festival and the best time for children, who have fun making lanterns, staying out late to display them, and enjoying the bustle of the celebration. Thanks for sharing this time many in your audience may not be familiar with. and greetings from Anhui, Xuancheng, Jingg'de.
Olá do Brasil! Obrigada por nos mostrar sua cultura tão diversificada e principalmente por sua coragem em ser mulher viajante! Você é a primeira da fila para nós que lhe assistimos e traz muita sorte e prosperidade! 🙏🌹
What an absolute delight to watch your experience at the lantern festival. It was a phenomenal endeavor on your part to capture the energy that rarely comes through on video, but I definitely felt the exhilaration and liveliness of the community.
Please think about visiting mighty Shandong, even Qingdao. Lived there for two years wonderful people and countryside. Take care and keep your wonderful smile. Really enjoy your travels.
So happy to see the festivities celebrating the Lantern Festival. My grandparents hometown is in Kaiping Village in Guangzhou where our Ancestral Shrine is located.
Hallo! little fairy brave Chinese girl. I was eagerly awaiting your fresh vlog. The new year's lantern festival was amazing. The world, especially the west should acknowledge the freedom Chinese people enjoy celebrating their cultural & religious events. May it be Muslims, Budist or others. Unlike the west, there is no hate or religious phobias amongst them. This thawarts the western colonial mentality propaganda against China. Little brave fairy Chinese keep it up & Keep smiling. An aged well-wisher from friendly Pakistan
In the Chinese culture you have to know your roots..if you don't know your roots then you would not know where you come from.. and if you don't know where you come from then you would not know where you are going.
Hi Yang, nice to see these traditional practises are being continued in some places in rural China. When I was little I used to be afraid to see the deities.....thank you for covering this.
Nossa meu que festa nunca iria saber disso muito obrigado por vc compartilhar essa cultura tao impressionante continue registrando e criando essas obras de arte❤
This is absolutely incredible! I couldn't imagine being part of such large and intense festivities! I hope I get to experience something like this some day! Thank you for documenting these things and sharing them with us!!
This temple tradition in my perspective as Indonesian born Chinese is a way to remember our ancestors, showing how rich our tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation. In Indonesia, Confucianism is already stated as an official religion of Chinese ethnic minority.
That was awesome! We almost never get to see this side of the Chinese culture. Boisterous, authentic energy! True oneness and unity that is missing from the modern culture
Traditional Asian village festival Guangdong style, thanks my dear for trying to show a basic genuine village festival with authentic commentary. I think I will travel to China.
Wow... this was like a world journalistic report from an eyewitness reporter. Great coverage and footage. Very interesting about the absence of women in the ceremonies. But YOU were there to share the experience with us! Your videos are always educational, inspirational and fun! : )
Very beautiful to see this! We also have similar festivals in India where gods are carried out of their temples in a parade, and of course there is Diwali as well. I play a game called Genshin Impact through which I came to know about this festival in Game for the first time and now seeing it through your video. Hopefully one day I will be able to visit China and see it in real life. Thanks a lot for the beautiful video!
There is a lot of similarity between southern Chinese traditions and Indian ones. Every year, at Thaipusam which the Tamil communities in Singapore and Malaysia celebrate, they also have fire walking ceremonies.
The phrase "Genshin Impact is a cultural export" is often joked about on the Chinese internet, but with your comment I don't think it's a joke anymore!
I love all these festivals. It seems like everyone turns out and gets involved. 🥰 India has a lot of festivals too but not many in my country. Beautiful ❤
Amazing! I have asthma so I was glad to see the fireworks on my tv screen and not the actual fireworks and smokes. Tradition really binds the community and make it strong. It is when the community adapts western tradition that the strength of the community weakens.
Oh my gosh you really worked hard for this video! I couldn't help thinking throughout about the ladies at home tapping their toes impatiently with arms crossed, standing in the doorway, waiting for their boys, haha. Thank you. I am always fascinated by what you produce and a little bit jealous of your adventures!
Hahahaha, there are women's teams in many places in Fujian Province, and the performances there will be more exciting and grand. It's a pity that yan was unable to go there when he traveled with his family.
Yan!!! Wow Wow Wow. Thank you for this. I Learned alot and was swept up too in the celebration. I so greatly enjoy and watch all of your productions with anticipation. As I learn more and more as a husband to a and a member of a Chinese (Fuzhou) Family and the incredible China, you guide me and my wife in discussions about her heritage of which I adore 20 years of marriage later. Thank you.
The wobbling of the diety carriage is not from the people carrying it. From my understanding, the diety causes the carriage to shift. I have seen some parades where the people carrying are hardpushed to move with the huge shift and the fast run when the diety moves
Hi Yan 👋🏻 we celebrated this in Malaysia too... the largest one is held at Johor ancient temple Chingay festival - the grandest deities parade in Malaysia . I'm so glad that we kept most of the chinese traditions here 🎉.
I was there to watch the procession of the deities from the 5 major clans.

China now gives special protection to women legally, and is even ridiculed as "unfair" by men.

@@HackerHacker-bh2xv Nah, It's still shitty waifu Japanese culture export. LMAO.
Another amazing video Yan, thank you for showing us China!
It's so nice to see so many people and especially young people having fun. PLA have no problem for recruitment 👍🎉🎊🥰
I love all these festivals. It seems like everyone turns out and gets involved. 🥰 India has a lot of festivals too but not many in my country. Beautiful ❤
Thanks!
Thank you 🥰
Thank you so much! You really make me want to go to china... i love the people and the culture
Amazing! I have asthma so I was glad to see the fireworks on my tv screen and not the actual fireworks and smokes. Tradition really binds the community and make it strong. It is when the community adapts western tradition that the strength of the community weakens.
Chinese women deserve their own lanterns!
You can't really blame them for being gold digger!' now I understand
It’s just that region.
I hope they have firemen 🚒 standing by. Beautiful traditions.
I manage to watch this event on Twitch livestream and wow it crazy with how many firework they do it

Thanks! Have been following your RUclips Channel ❤and find its useful and enlightening.
Thank you so much 🥰
Sounds like you've already filled this year's quota for noise. My ears thank you for stepping in for them. 😁
Amazing. Thank you for sharing an experience that many other people and I may never have experienced. It is so interesting.
Always interesting and entertaining and informative, just wonderful job
Very beautiful movie and ceremony !!!
Thank you.
Hi Yan, that's an amazing lantern 🏮🎃 festival 🥮
Enjoy your time
The wobbling of the diety carriage is not from the people carrying it. From my understanding, the diety causes the carriage to shift. I have seen some parades where the people carrying are hardpushed to move with the huge shift and the fast run when the diety moves
Yes, it is believed that.. deities push their carriage and people just hold the palanquin.
