Never met Iohan in person. I loved watching his videos. He was one of my most inspirational youtube touring cyclist. I'm currently cycling 10k miles in the U.S. soon to head into Mexico. As I lay here restless in my sleeping bag at 3am in the morning camped on the side of a road in the North West. I just happened to roll over and watch some RUclips videos. This is the first time learning about his death. Its so sad hearing about this kind souls passing. What an inspiration to me. He will never know that im out here living my dreams on a bicycle partly because of his videos. Rest in peace Sir. May your Spirit continue to peddle on.
I was working in the corporate world while losing my soul when I found bike touring and Iohan's videos. We'd watch his videos in the concrete jungle as often as they came out for inspiration while we saved all our money for a bike adventure of our own. I know I wouldn't have had the courage to quit my job and bike from the top of Alaska to the bottom of the Baja if it weren't for his inspiring videos. On the tour we'd often we'd debate about if we were being enough like Iohan or if he was just crazy.... Seeing the scenery the hard way and meeting people where they are is what makes it all worth it. Thanks for the video. RIP Iohan.

Thank you so much for making this video of such a beautiful and moving tribute to Iohan. Like many I never had the privilege to actually meet him in person rather by forum chat and email about things bike packing. He was generous with his time and advice. I don't think I have ever come across any one so humble, anyone with so few pretentions, so kind but with such zest and determination for life which makes it all the more difficult to try to understand why he is no longer with us. This beautiful memorial service has helped massively to try to bring closure to make sense of his passing, but there is still inevitably still a lot we shall never know. It was as if he was present with you playing with the dogs as you all recalled your memories of him. He was the Dog Whisperer. He loved all animals. It's as if they instinctively knew. Such a gentle nature. He was special and he was loved, quite how much I don't know if he ever realised, that he was an inspiration for so many across the world. He has left us a fantastic legacy of his beautiful videos of his journeys, the people he met, the landscapes he travelled through, story teller, poet, and a portrait of him himself. Iohan seemed to enter my everyday existence from the realm of dreams. Few have managed to do this over my nearly 70 years. He changed my perception of reality. I watched him live an expansive human experience over two continents. He was my hero in a world where I seldom employ that title to refer to anyone. A piece of me is crushed but a wide open vista has come into focus for me because of what I learned from him. The dog-whisperer, the proficient documentarian who narrated so little but said so much...

I am so saddened by his passing he was such an inspiration on how he lived his life having so much compassion for all that crossed his path especially the creatures. I followed the amazing journeys and adventures that he pursue with great anticipation on what came next. He is one of a kind and I will very much miss his presence in this world .
God I loved watching his videos and eagerly awaited every upload me and my wife watched together. He cracked me up! Besides his love for all animals, especially dogs, he would call cows “my little hamburger” at times cracking me up because it speaks of rationed calories and inhuman effort getting into the most remote locations on earth. His South American travels will never be topped. Just crazy shit, like camping in drug cartel territory with pot plants growing around him. He could have ended up in so many shallow graves it’s mind boggling. His kind spirit always pulled through. Some location do remote civilization was 2 weeks away. I know he passed in South Africa, my country of birth, which saddens me. RIP Iohan.

I love God's creations of all the natural landscapes of this planet; Like Lohan, I too, wish I could see it all myself. And wherever Lohan traveled God was gracious to him in accepting him in all the lands that he traveled upon and kept him safe. A man that shared his travels and life experiences during his travels; He was patient, kind, and had a big heart. He will be missed by all bike travelers of this place we reside on.

Nice memorial. The world was a much better place when he was in it. I wish I could convince everyone that we'll see him and all of our dead friends and family again on earth, but I know that's a tough task. Jesus promised to resurrect everyone for a chance to live again and proved on a small scale that he can do it when he resurrected Lazarus, (John 11:1-44)
I followed him for long, I got inspired by his journey, I bought a bike, and learnt that I like hiking more, I want to travel slow, and see everything, I am still a bit impatient sometime. Now I have the plan to next year take 7 months of and walk aroundy my country the netherlands, and sometime walk al the 11000 km of trails here. He gave me so much energy and things to look forward for, he will life in my being forever., I would not be what I am without his inspiration. Hope he lives forward in our Adventures
