- Doobie Brothers - Long Train Runnin' (From "Live At The Greek Theatre 1982" DVD & CD)
Available Now: mercury-studio...
Recorded at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, California in 1982, this concert was the last date on "Farewell Tour". It was an emotional night and would be the last gig for 5 years. The set contained all their best loved hits and they were joined by founder member Tom Johnston for the last two tracks, with former members John Hartman (also from the original line-up), Tiran Porter and Michael Hossack coming on stage for the celebratory finale of "Listen To The Music". The band are in fantastic form and rise to the occasion magnificently, they can rarely have delivered a better performance throughout their distinguished career. An album called "Farewell Tour" was released by Warners in 1983 but this featured tracks recorded at several different concerts across the tour. This is the first time the audio of their actual final concert has been available.
On CD format, four additional tracks from the concert have also been reinstated as bonus tracks. On the DVD format, the Bonus Features offer five tracks from the concert that were cut from the original 1982 film: "Little Darling (I Need You)", "One Step Closer", "Dependin' On You", "Real Love" and "No Stoppin' Us Now" plus interviews with the band members and manager.

Once upon a time there was real music played by real musicians
True! So true!
Right on Warren!
⁰
What have we done?
I agree with you!!!
RIP .... Cornelius Bumpus. You killed this performance brother
All bands can go home and retire as they never close as this the absolute diamond.
Im 65 rock geek but i NEVER KNEW this was an African American singing LEARN something new every day of your life no matter how OLD they WE'RE good but one of my favorite groups
Tom Johnson originally but he fell sick and needed to be replaced but the got like 2 or three players for that job, Michael McDonald and this other keyboardist/singer but his name is not listed here for some reason. It's like a 12 bar blues song so his voice fits well.
The Doobie Brothers originally had Tom Johnston as frontman, but he le left the band in 1977 due to problems with his mental health, so all the songs that originally had him as frontman needed a new lead singer, which was really interchangeable between 5 people (Cornelius Bumpus, who sings in this video, Michael McDonald, Patrick Simmons, Keith Knudsen or Bobby LaKind). Who did lead vocals really depended on what song they were playing. For example, Cornelius often sang Long Train Runnin’, Keith Knudsen sang Listen To The Music, Michael McDonald sang Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me A Little While), Patrick sang Rockin’ Down The Highway and China Grove, except on the farewell tour when for China Grove they were rejoined by Tom Johnston as a guest, and Bobby LaKind sang Sweet Maxime, just to name a couple examples
Does it even matter?
@revvyhevvy quiet FOOL

The Doobies are one of those rare bands where every lineup sounded great.
Cornelius did great here, nice percussion from Bobby too.
Several people here are no longer with us, which is a shame.
keyboard & vocalist = Cornelius Bumpus was a great man. He also played saxophone and later in his life lived in Morris County NJ. He gave sax lessons in Summit, NJ at a small music shop and I was fortunate enough to have him as my teacher. He was a really a cool guy and may he rest in peace... or maybe with a little rock n roll in heaven!
REAL musicians, playing REAL musical instruments, making REAL music.
And... none of those fucking in-ear monitors! Yep, those were the days...
When are we going to see real music played by real talented musicians like this again...!
The drum solo was absolutely killer.
So natural..look at him !!
The original recording is epic... but this live version bows it out of the water... very rare indeed... wow!
Amazing how the Doobies kept on rocking no matter who was oe was not in the band.
Pat's guitar solo starting at 2:45 changed my life. Soooooo melodic!
Very Santana inspired 🙂
Best version ever of this song....the keyboarder is magic
Every time I see this video, I have got to smile, and wonder what Patrick Simmons was doing during this time in his life?!
Look at how energetic and spunky he was in this!
Almost randy in his behavior.
I am intrigued.
Frisky!
💜
The Doobie Brothers are one of the best bands ever.
Cornelius Bumpus - that man had music running through his veins. He played sax for Steely Dan too.
Cornelius Bumpus, excellent and different voice, he sings as if he were in his living room, calm, strong and clear, like the best rocker
I saw them live twice 1972 and again in 75. Still ranks as 2 of the best shows I've ever seen. Nobody rocked harder or better than these guys. Nothing today even comes close!!!
The 1970s used to dance to this after a home game in the high school gym. Lord, so many years ago! Go Tigers!
Love these guys! Pat Simmons really nails his guitar solo...its perfect! There isn't a weak link in this great band. Rock on forever Doobie Brothers!
I wasn't watching the screen when he's broke into his solo but I would have sworn it was Carlos Santana! Man he can flat-out play a guitar for sure. Peace!
@@jhamptonjr I thought the same thing... Had to look twice to make sure Carlos hadn't made a cameo appearance with the band... The tone and the note choices in the solo I would have sworn... If I was blind folded and you played this and asked me who it was, I instantly would have replied Santana... Loved the solo and the three drummers laying down the beat...
When the real musician play real music....
Can I say that Patrick sure did alot of moving around on the stage here!
And at the end, the sporty way he took a running leap!
The musicianship here is just off the charts
I was at a great disco yesterday as 60+ in my age. Almost 40 years since I was at a similar one and this particular song thundered through the speakers and an incredible joy on the dance floor. It was wonderful!
Great Band from day one
WITHOUT LOVE
..WHERE ARE .. "WE"...Right Now??? 🤟
so much fun to play the harmonica solo!! ;)
They were the absolute best!
I saw them twice, 1st time was their Farewell Tour in '82 in San Diego, 2nd time was their Reunion Tour at Red Rocks, Colorado in '94. Both times they were Awesome 👍👍
I was there! I had just moved to Oakland in may 1982. I went to many greek concerts with the weed flowing and view of SF bay bridge!
why doesn't music like this exist today????
not The Classic Line Up Sir ` Tom Rules
It still exists ;-) I'm very thankful we can listen to it every day and they are still playing to this day!
Cornelius on lead singer and organ, wow !
At one concert he got up and played the sax as well
It's what we called ROCK AND ROLL back in the day. Nothing but that ERA played like that. There has been nothing as good since
I was at this show, at the Greek. Years later, I was gifted the A's jersey that Keith wore that night.
seen the Doobie Bros. over 20 times including backstage with my daughter.this is my fave song !!!!
Cornelius Bumpus- tremendous control over that Hammond while singing
Michael McDonald- he keyboard fills
The drums and percussion section- a perfect example of a mini rock and roll (with latin) orchestra
marvelous performance.
They just ROCK,,, plain n simple!!
The Doobs. Staying POWER. Going this summer to Minnesota State fair to see them, probably for the last time tho.
I remember seeing this version of the Doobies in KC in 81, I was a senior in high school
i'm japanese composer called Masashi .
i often played this song in University .
i love this song forever .
love seeing Crnellius Bumpus playing keyboards and singing
To the ladies and gentlemen who have preceded me I agree wholeheartedly one of the best bands of all times. February 2020 I will get to see the Doobie Brothers perform on back-to-back nights. As a fan who is been privileged to see more than a hundred and fifty rock and roll shows in my life this will definitely be the zenith of those experiences. Rock on everyone Rock on!
drum and conga solos were on point!
Wot a band!!!!!
I never get fed up of listening to the Doobies. A REAL class act!!....in any incarnation!
I love the live performance 1980s in Santa Barbara at the beautiful beach🎶💋😍🔥
Roundhousewilliam or Bad Company
TOTALLY ! Voice Harmony, the best Mucking Fagic Ever !
50 years on the road!!!
My wife and I were at the second to last concert during this Doobie Brothers tour at the Greek Theater. What a night, as we waited for the sun to go down we could see it descending over the Golden Gate Bridge. Very cool. Unbelievable concert too.
WITHOUT LOVE, WHERE WOULD YOU BE RIGHT NOW? ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I feel so very blessed to have grown up with this band. They were and still are one of best bands of all times!
They were a vibrant force througout the 70-90's a refreshing oasis in the desert of disco etc.
Real music real musicians real talent and of course a real message
1 Corinthians 13:13.NIV.And now these three remain:faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.Amen.
Brilliant Carlos solo !! Ha Ha Love this band....xxx
Cornelius on lead singer and organ, wow !
They just ROCK,,, plain n simple!!
Couple of mind blowing guitar solos and the rhythm break, wow!
amazing how they look clean cut, this was before the crazy perms of "heavy metal" got into the scene, and look at what we got now. where would we be now without the love from the doobies
A Great Band that was meant to perform for the people who loved good music. I think you will always have fun at a Doobie Brothers concert!
En voila des vraies musiciens les frères DOOBIE , the good music of DOOBIE BROTHERS !
Que buena banda.A pesar de los cambios en su formación siempre colmó las espectativas
Doobie brothers should be in the rock and roll hall of fame it's long overdue
They really should. For some reason, the RRHF keeps inducting rap and pop artists.
cool rhythm section. and the Santanaish solo. Whole song killer
right! very similar to santana
tommy Johnson Does This Much Better Real Doobie Line Up
I'm with you on the Santana solo, also the ending.
This singer Bobby! 🎶🎼🎹🎵 Sings and played the organ so wonderful!! One of my favorite songs of the Debbie's!!! They ROCK AND SING BEAUTIFUL ❤️💙🎵🎸🎸🎸🎺🎷🎙️🎶
The late great Cornelius Bumpus
Cornelius Bumpus great keys and horn player.. damn fine voice too. Too much greatness in this whole band, whatever incarnation of the doobies that thrills you, each player was wonderful at his job
One of my first favorites from my teen age years of the 1970's.
the harmonizing in that chorus is spot on with the album version. So good
Doesn't get a whole lot better than that!
Chris Hall You are certainly right about that Sir!
Groovy dudes that rock, roll and soul. Feckin fantastic. Without love, where would you be right now? Peace to you all. x
Dawn Sutton All agreed but would that be the Irish 'feck', madam? As per the dictionary of Lord Graham of the Linehan?
Fantastic Rocker !!! Turn it up !!!
OH MY GOSH
L😍VE this tune have done since the 80s but this performance just took this tune to the next level.
Blooming AWESOME ✊👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I was at this concert, but had no idea until now that it was available on video.
How can ANYONE dislike this group?????
As happy as I am to have Tom Johnston back in the group, I have to say this was an absolute powerhouse lineup! Their farewell tour was the second concert I ever attended, and it certainly set a high bar for all the shows to follow. I saw them again this summer, and they’re still rocking hard and sounding great!
Johnston or Bumpus(+), either way both of 'em slap for Long Train Runnin'.
Il y a eu les doobies puis les autres...je suis fan depuis la création de ce groupe..❤❤
Perfect performance, perfect song! love it. especially the beat of conga and electric guitar combine with the singer voice. Amazing!
C'est gars la on la magie de la musique en eux peut importe d'où qu'il vienne
🖤🥀Amazing song! Great lyrics vocals and music and one amazing drum solo wow both, all was fantastic. I love the guy's since the 70s on up. 🥀🖤✌☝️
If I had choice to listen to this song all day, or the current pop crap, I would choose this song without thinking twice.
Dwight K Schrute Beet Farmer Amen to that!
100,000,000 %
Somedays i wld agree
ok boomer
Me too and I'm a Cowboys fan...jus sayin....great music and sports. Both winners back then!!!!
Nice the percu solo!!
Long train running by The Doobie brothers . I Love this Song .
HI ange thanks for the Doobie Brothers David Dj 🔊🎶🎸😎
Che musica, che tempi😊
These guys are GREAT! Every one of them as they progressed through the years. They play the hell out of every instrument and are incredible live. Todays music sucks with a few exceptions.
The instrumentation and this version of Long Train Running owes everything to Santana. It was Santana's popularity that showed other bands that Latin Fusion with latin style percussion and latin styled guitar chords and riffs was an option that the typical rock fan would listen to and welcome. Santana made it cool to break out into the 'Latin" sound and not turn off mainstream fans.
Some of the harmonies ever in rock.
THAT SOLO!!!!!!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Freaking awesome. Love this. We just don't get this level today.. sad.
Very good
LONG TRAIN RUNNING PAR DOOBIE BROTHERS, DEPUIS 1982, ON N'A PAS FAIT MIEUX !!! UN PUR JOYAU. JEAN CLAUDE VEZER - 16/11/2019 - 12 HEURES ET 18 MINUTES.
Going to see then in about 1 month in the Woodlands, Texas.
Doobie Brothers - Long Train Runnin' - EXCELLENT
DITTO
Really great to see this 'Farewell Tour' line-up! Great guitar solos by both Pat Simmons and John McFee!!
This was once called a band they played their own instruments they wrote their own songs they sang harmonies.
Thanks to post this fantastic piece of music!!
I have so many time dance in clubs on this music, a long time ago...
His voice cuts right through everything very unique singer !
Special people together Real people in Love!!!!!No wars no weapon no terrorismo Real people
So many of the members shown here have passed on sadly.....Bobby Lakind(percussion and vocals), Keith Knudson(drums and vocals) Cornelius Bumpus(vocals, keyboards, and saxophone) who I think did a magnificent job on Tom Johnson's vocals for this tune.
I think that was the time Tom Johnston had to sit out for a while because of health problems.
My childhood music, could always get away...
I like how all the percusssionists blended together during the solos...
Exactly this is real music played by real band
They are legends. LOVE this version & this is my favorite of the Doobies!
The 70's rocked!
inesquecível ❤😊
