    ĒARENDEL
    Composer: Michael McGlynn
Soloists: Lucy Champion, Aisling McGlynn, Lauren McGlynn
The discovery of the star Earendel by the Hubble Space Telescope serves as the inspiration for this work. Located 28 billion light-years from Earth and with a mass vastly exceeding that of our Sun, the star's ancient light-lonely and red from its lengthy journey through space-poses profound questions about existence and the nature of time itself.
To mirror these expansive concepts, I've incorporated a tapestry of linguistic elements from various poetic traditions-Irish, Latin, Icelandic, and Old English. The main text itself is found in the Exeter Book, a manuscript dating from the late 10th century.
Ēala ēarendel, engla beorhtast, ofer middangeard monnum sended, ond soðfæsta lēoma...
Hail Earendel, brightest of angels, over Middle-earth to men sent, and true radiance...
    Ave Stella solitaria, lux antiqua
    Hail solitary star, ancient light.

Something 28 billion light years far from here inspired the creation of this song. Existence is amazing.

This is a stunning rendition of the music of the spheres, about which poets, philosophers, and scientists have dreamt for so long… And your performance is as it could only be when you are singing… My warmest congratulations to the composer and the performers, thank you for sharing this beauty, keep up the good work, and best wishes from Spain!

I loved the graphics of our universe in motion! Your choral music was perfectly mated to the images being shown on this video. Both sights and sounds engulfed the viewer in a magical and mystical experience. Wonderful video!! Will Ortiz

The "Eala Earendel" text was the inspiration for Tolkien's Earendil (which you might already know, but I like sharing fun facts)

Was the beginning old English before the Latin part?

The part starting at 3:56 mins sounds like some of the lovely chords from "My Song Shall Rise." It also has that repetitive feature in songs like at the end of "O Maria," "Agnes Dei," & throughout "The Sea," where the choir sings the same chords over and over, while slowly adding new notes over the top. I wish I knew the name for this in music theory. Do you know what it's called? I hear it a lot in Anuna songs. Cheers!
