Just revisiting this. Boy, I miss James James. So glad all of these videos are still out there. JJ if you're still reading these, hope you're doing well and thank you for making all of these fantastic videos/lessons.
Was Charlie playing air drums, or was he using electronic drum sticks similar to Free-Drum sticks which are fully programmable to even simulate cymbal crashes?
I was only there for the Stones, I think what they should’ve done is make it less depressing, I thought it would be all music, and as Aerosmith said wisely, “Let The Music Do The Talking”. Since there’s a huge outbreak, I think it would’ve been a better move to make it less depressing. Elton and Macca were good too.
I have lived all around the world, but when I see your House of Guitar shirt, it reminds me of the commercials that used to trickle up to Canada in the late 70s/early 80s on the Buffalo channels we got- the one with the opening bells for Hells Bells from Back in Black. That is what I think about everytime I see your shirt, so far away. Thanks for all that you do, it helps so much. Rocking with you here in the UK!
Why is it so you think they went away from the open tuning version? It’s not like it’s difficult for Keith to play. I hope Keith is ok because he sure didn’t look like he was contributing much.
Agreed! I hope he's doing ok ... seemed very disengaged. Although he at times moved his left hand up and down the neck, his right hand barely touched the strings. I hope it was just a technical issue.
Thanks for this and for all that you post on here! And say Hi to Privvettricker if you bump into him! 🙂I hope that you and your family stay safe and well,
back when i was first learning guitar eons ago when i literally didn't even know that alternate tunings besides standard 440 existed because this song is so simple and straightforward it was suggested as a "starter tune" (i was told "start with THE STONES work yer way up to THE BEATLES as far as difficulty). it wasn't until decades later a learned that so many STONES songs i had learned in 440 were actually in alternate tunings that KEITH R. had learned from GRAHAM PARSONS. it now seems almost a little strange to see it played in 440 as it is here.
Everybody leave Keith alone man.. haha but hey James thanks for the exercises! Gives me something to practice in between songs I’m learning when my hands start getting fatigued. Easy going and it helps sharpen my strumming. You’re the man!
I disagree. The first time I heard YCAGWYW when it first came out, in a basement party in Hershey, PA, the most distinctive part that pulled me right into it was Mick's guitar. Sometimes a simple riff is exactly what a song needs. No more, no less.
Saw an interview with George Thorogood the other day. He was totally praising Micks guitar skills. I was kinda surprised. Hes a pretty entertaining interview ,George.
Not sure how the best studio rock singer was more than not such a blah live singer, but who gives a shit--Stones are still the GOAT. Speaking of donations, Dude, you should put a Patreon link on your pages, as you've lent your ear to so many ear-less six stringers out there
James james you are the man brother love playing this tune in open e with the capo at the 8th. Love that hummingbird sound to, I play the epiphone version tho
JJ, the Hummingbird is slightly shorter in scale. Do you feel a major difference playing it? Is it easier on the fingers to play chords? What a beautiful guitar. Currently my "aspirational guitar."
Lol mick and ronnie were the only ones playing ,they were great, sorry but Keith just looking at his guitar ,and Charlie was playing with the electronic drums sticks I think ,or ma be recorded drums for this song, it was magic.
Hey James, first let me thank you for all the great videos you post! You are a true Stones fanatic (like myself). Anyhow, it looks like Keith was playing a nylon stringed classical guitar in this video, do you agree? Maybe a throwback to his grandfather's guitar that he learned Malaguena on. Do you ever play around with classical guitars?
Keith has used a gut-string guitar a few times, I think he used one on that Stripped thing about 20 years ago. I don't own one, but I've played them. Not the most practical guitar for the stuff I play.
It has always pissed me off that Jagger feels he needs to play guitar on stage. Despite Ronnie & Keith’s playing, what does the third guitar offer other than garnering even more of the spotlight which he obviously desperately craves? However, having said that, Mick did a damn good job, considering the fact that Keith was MIA
Like everybody else, Mick is a package deal. Do you want the music? The ego comes with it. Do you want the show? You get the ego. I have never heard Mick claim to be anything other than what he is. Musicians dig attention. Performers more so. I revel in Mick being Mick Almost as much as he does.
Hi - What strings (gauge especially but also make) do you use on your acoustics. Do you use the same on your Gibsons and Martin? I know much of your great tone is from your fingers but strings will of course have a effect.
You're the best! Ty for all the inspiration and for making this about playing music 🎶

I've looked closely... not sure if Mick is pressing down on the E string on his F chord.
I think sometimes he does, other times he doesn’t.
@@jamesjames9275 LOL hey he's Mick, he can do it any way he wants! Thanks for this lesson, me and a buddy were debating the chords. This settles it!
"Charlie you dont have a kit!!!"
Charlie: Sure I do.
Mick sounds awesome not going to deny.. Charlie the master of air drums..😱😂
Trucker Kev The Paid Tourist Charlie’s still the coolest man alive!

Ronnie sounded pretty good on that version, but what was Keith doing?
I know I was thinking the same thing.what the heck Keith was doing.
Keith was posing
Whiskers B he was playing something on a 12 string but I couldn’t hear him.
Same thing he’s be doing for years ... not very much !!
thanks , you keep pulling out great exercises for the down time we have
Its kind of weird never seeing your face I can understand why ,but I watch you all the time so I recognise you by your hands

Thanks. Saturday night I actually wondered if you’d show this version of the song. Wow, you are on top of it, as
always.
James ... thank you. You’re the best. Your shares are a daily visit for me. I love your taste and your style. Thanks again.

dean mccaskill ,was he having a bourbon, a scotch and a beer ?
Great video James....I usually use the open tuning but always good to know the camp fire version. :-)
Mick nailed the vocal and loaded with feeling.
It helps to play this on a Gibson Hummingbird for sure! Thanks. Greetings from Sydney, Australia 🇦🇺👏👏👏
Mick is closing in on 77 and his vocals still sound strong.
I was playing along with it live, I was hoping they'd do salt of the earth, enjoyed it
What's the kind of guitar are you using?
@@jobeyyyy It's an Acoustic Guitar made by Gibson.
You only watched the Stones? Why am I not surprised? 😆 One of my favorite Stones tune
I had just downloaded the Stones performance to play along with. Then I saw this video right after downloading. Thanks.
Gracias Sr. James buen tutorial 👍
Good cause, and I too only tuned in for the Stones.
Me too.
Cherry red!
First time I've ever taken the time to play through a full song, thanks for the video man!
Brilliant is the open version in d
I so dug that!!
Thank you!
Sounds bad compared to open tunings
I have to agree with you there.

Mick and Ronnie sounded good. Keef and Charlie on the other hand 😅
I heard that it wasn't Charlie on the drums. Someone named Jimmy filled in for him. Truth?
Great song. Great playing.
James james you are the man brother love playing this tune in open e with the capo at the 8th. Love that hummingbird sound to, I play the epiphone version tho
How do you find room for your fingers on the fretboard? My meathooks just can't pull that off for more than about 1 min. Very fatiguing
@@billvill61 patience and practice brother
@@matthewbeeton9717 I'd tune to Open D with capo on Fret 10 or Open C without the Capo. It was originally in G6 Tuning with a Capo on Fret 5.
how did charlie's air drums thing work on that? seems like it wasn't prerecorded/programmed (still was delightfully sloppy)
Sweet !
I am in the habit of opening your new vids ... and pushing “Like” straight off .. ‘cause I know I will like it
like the song, good voice, good mix acoustic sounded great. Is that a Hummingbird?
What strings are strumming?
All of them.
What guitar is this?
A gibson
JJ, the Hummingbird is slightly shorter in scale. Do you feel a major difference playing it? Is it easier on the fingers to play chords? What a beautiful guitar. Currently my "aspirational guitar."
No difference to me.
Great stuff but you definitely sound more like Neil Young!
Can you do a lesson on how Keith faked playing the guitar? Sorry I had to 😋 Thanks to Mick for nailing this tune. The others? Well........
Lol mick and ronnie were the only ones playing ,they were great, sorry but Keith just looking at his guitar ,and Charlie was playing with the electronic drums sticks I think ,or ma be recorded drums for this song, it was magic.
You've introduced yet another good old song here.
Mick "put the guitar down" jagger
You can get what you want, you just have to BELIEVE.

hey james james whats your take on the difference between the Gibson and Epiphone hummingbird?
I've actually never played an Epiphone Hummingbird.
Over 60 rock is painful enough but what's that ,over 80?
Darn close.
which hummingbird is that?
Just a regular one from 2001.
@@jamesjames9275 standard ?
@@acevent5759 Yes.
What chord progression do you think sounds best during the interlude part where they do the aah aah aah. Whatever I do never sounds right. Thanks
I think that part sounds much better in the open tuning, to be honest.
The way they play it now sounds like like Noel Gallagher playing it!
Prefer the open E
You are so good. Thanks for sharing
I will play Charlie's part ; )
Considering the fact that the combined age of the members of the Rolling Stones is over 3,532 years..........they did pretty darn good.
Mick did good. In fact he did amazing.
@@pageluvva yes asaloutley.

Cool
Maybe a bit more effort required by keef there😄
I think his role is more inspirational these days, as opposed to functional.
Covering this is why you're the best! Now please tell me - what in the hell was Keith doing?
Lol. Not much.
Maybe he just smoked a joint...lol.
Matty C. Yeah. That would be a first.
Hi - What strings (gauge especially but also make) do you use on your acoustics. Do you use the same on your Gibsons and Martin? I know much of your great tone is from your fingers but strings will of course have a effect.
I use thinner strings on the Martin than the Gibsons. But I don't pay a lot of attention to strings.
Did Keith actually play anything? I’m really not convinced hahahahah
I don't think he was doing anything more or less than he's done onstage for the last 30 years or so.
yeah ! but the " Nothing " he does , he does good !🥴
I think I hear a few bass notes from him.
