Thanks for sharing Tomo-san. I admire your positivity and the happy approach you bring to your guitar playing and teaching. This is a great way to teach, play music and live life in general. My favorite part is that you share the philosophy of UBUNTU or “I am because we are.” I am me because of all the great people who have inspired me to be who I am, including you! 🙏🏾
Man I was hardly happy back in the days exactly like you said I wanted to be great be popular be rich etc. but what really got me started was those beautiful chords, arpeggio and melodies that I was exposed to early in life and growing up which I could recreate on guitar 🎸
You have been so impactful in my life, even without knowing you in person, you are my teacher, not only for guitar, you teach a philosophy of life, I will be always grateful and I hope you the best for you and all your family. Thank you for everything, Tomo sensei.
I went through a long period of stagnation, probably like a good 5 years. There was even a period where I put down the guitar for awhile. I wasn't happy at all with playing. I wasn't happy with the way I wrote things. Then I found your channel (some others as well, but yours is one of a select few I pay the most attention to in terms of learning and thinking about guitar). I'm a lot happier now because I feel like I'm learning again and chords and progressions that get me excited to play again. It feels a lot like when I first started playing and everything was new and exciting. I might even know the chord, but maybe it's a song I didn't know used that specific voicing in that specific progression. But it's the first time in a long time I've been excited and happy when I pick up my guitar. Really, it's thanks to you Fujita-sensei. Thank you for this channel and for sharing your wisdom and knowledge with all of us.
You bring real life to your teachings and subtle disquise of comitment to the guitar, also known as love for the instrument, it is refreshing to the mind of real people that love the way music feels when played frombthe heart using tecnique and knowledge, thank You for this rich video.
Great video Tomo and I am happy with my guitar playing! My wife bought me my first guitar for my 40th birthday and I would strum it once in a while, then we had a baby and the guitar stayed in the closet for 8 years before I even took it out of the case after moving! LOL Fast forward to Corona virus quarantine and I discovered you and other youtubers and I decided to get serious about making decent sounds come out of the guitar!! When you said don't worry, don't compare, don't expect too fast and be kind to yourself, that took me off the cliff of quitting because of the sore fingers and sore wrist and frustration from not sounding remotely like music! LOL After your chromatic exercises put me on the path and now I have 14 guitars and still learning and loving every moment of this guitar journey! I don't want to be a professional, I just want to play for my family! Thank you again Tomo!!!
So happy to hear that. Thanks for sharing! Good job! My wisdom 4 words... so important for everyone! Basic concept before we start. You're very welcome!
Firstly Tomo sensei is one of the teacher that changes my play by just few videos He's an amazing teacher I highly recommend So my short story During year 2019-2022 So much changes in life since Corona From quitting my job to move to europe I just found Tomo Channel in past few weeks my morning routine is wake up and practice with his videos And the phrases "Be kind to yourself" It's what I always think of when I'm put myself in hard situations Thank you So much Tomo sensei 🙏🏻
Thanks Tomo sensei. I really need this. I remember the first time my parents went to market and got a guitar for me and i recalled the sense of the instrument and that summer i never stopped playing. I am in a rut to be honest have not played in a month. I am going back to my passion. Seek happiness and truth. Ignore the noise of the world. Thank you.
I haven't even finished the video yet Tomo but I just wanted to say despite how soppy this might sound you truly seem as if you're one of the kindest people and that "energy" literally radiates from your videos and your personality. It's such a gift being able to hear your wisdom, stories, and philosophy. I wake up everyday happy to be greeted by a video of yours to learn something new! But if anyone asked me if I want to be famous, rich, best guitar player, I would say no, I just want to enjoy and if I can help others enjoy as well.
Thanks so much for your kind words. I am just a guy who loves guitar so much! I want to share this positive feeling to all. Life is tough enough before you do anything. Maybe guitar can help everyone!
I am really happy! and even more because I recently learned the "Lovely chords" you terached in another video. And every time I play something with them I feel really happy! and they make me feel good! You and your wisdom are my inspiration!
Happy? Yes! When I pick up the guitar to play a song, to practice, to talk about guitar playing with other musicians - these things make me happy and I feel connected to others who share something that makes us all happy.
I love your enthusiasm and the way you teach Tomo, it is very inspiring. I always come away with a good feeling after watching your videos. I just turned 68 and have been playing for a few years but have yet to make that breakthrough, but I am getting there. Learning to play and the theory behind the music, how it works, keeps you young. Thank you Tomo !
Thank you Fujita sensei, I need to hear this today. Would love to be able to learn even more from you one day, more lessons are in my future. Learning Katakana and Hiragana has been difficult too, you inspire constantly. ありがとうございます
Tomo - you are a great teacher, Player, collector, gear owner, experimentalist-U-Tuber, Husband, Father ? , person. many of us are not happy with the way the music industry has gone, or the excessive emphasis on technology instead of teamwork - it has brought about. Public performances have become very problematic, as has public gathering in general.
Thanks so much for your kind words! I have 3 children. Boy, Girl, Boy (29, 27, 21)... my beautiful sweet wife & two rag doll cats. Yes, definitely! but still you can create your own kind of work. I use my limitation to create something new. That's why I even own so many effect pedals, but I don't use many of them. Less effects made my fingers TONE! Public performances... more choices: Private Backyard (small to gig!) or online performance. (Andy Timmons is doing that so well with well attendances)
Tomo, thank you so much for all you do and for your amazing message! I am in my mid 50s, I used to play in a band back in the 80s and then I quit for more than 25 years. The pandemic isolation made me take my guitar out of the closet and try to somehow move my rusted fingers again. In my search for lessons, I found you and from that point on you have been an amazing inspiration not only as a guitar teacher but for life in general. I also love your Guitar Wisdom lessons. Thank you!
You're very welcome. I am so happy to be helpful. Good job! Welcome back! Please enjoy your guitar playing! Thanks so much for subscribing my Guitar Wisdom.
Such a wonderful talk. Thanks for the inspiration and wisdom, I'm gonna make it one day and think back on all your lessons that helped guide me through life. Much Love and Peace
I’m really happy to be getting to a point where I can quickly write new musical ideas and capture them and build on them. I’ve only been playing a few years but it has been immensely rewarding, and it feels so good to be progressing in my ability to compose and capture my emotions. The joy you bring to guitar keeps me grounded and focused on my progress rather than worrying about what I’m not yet. I know I’ll get there as long as I keep working hard.
Hey Tomo, I really like your shirt. This is actually a message that you can also apply to the real life situations, not only to the guitar. I really need to learn that as well. You know, music is a gift and we should enjoy it by having an individual guitar journey. We should not compare and be mad about our slow progress or anything like that it just demotivates. Just enjoy the journey and see wehre it leads. Peace!
Thanks so much! Guitar can teach me about the real life! Thankful! Don’t worry Don’t compare Don’t expect too fast Be kind to yourself www.osiamo.com/Pickboy-Wisdom-Picks-by-Tomo-Fujita
I'm happy when I'm playing - so, the older I get, the more I play. I've got 57 years of playing in so far. It has gotten to the point where if I'm not eating, sleeping, or working out (that part is essential to being the best player you can be), I'm playing. I recently changed back to my original 9-gauge preference from the early days, and married B-flat some time ago, which unbeknownst to me was the holy grail of 12-hour sessions. The average is about four hours, but the marathons are becoming more of a thing as time goes by. I enjoy the hell out of your tips, insights, and stories, brother. Please keep on keeping on.
Thanks for sharing! Lately my working out part is far important than guitar playing because I want to live long healthy first! you got that part so well. If you can practice 3-4 hours, that's pro musicians 's DREAM! Learning part is so important than just practicing. Learning bending or triads or chords (4 note inversions) ... so much fun! I am so grateful today. Thank you so much! I have a lot of stories. But its hard to tell as a story, nicely within 10 minutes. Originally I was hoping to tell this message in 8 to 10 minuets. It went 20 minutes! I thought it was bad!
@@TomoFujitaMusic We seem to agree about many things. You are right about working out. It is more important than playing. Playing is the building, brother. Working out is the foundation of that building. People forget that A) guitars can (should?) be heavy, and B) if you can't stand comfortably for extended periods of time, you will be at a disadvantage. As you get tired your playing begins to get sloppy and subconciously you maybe start to look for shortcuts. If you're a player who committsto the piece you're playing, that is not often acceptable. And if you're going to wield a Les Paul, mahogany Telecaster or what have you for the evening, it pays to reinforce the major muscle groups. All that aside, if you want quality of life well into your future - though it's never guaranteed, not exercising guarantees that you will drop off (skill-wise) early in life. You are doing the right thing. I'm 63, and as near as I can tell, I can do everything I did when I was 23. Maybe not as quickly and with more discomfort, but I don't feel hampered in any major way. Fight to keep command of your life and command of those bends right till the end, brother. That is my advice to you. It is great to make your acquaintance, Tomo. Cool name. Well, it's time for me to start winding down for the evening. I gather you are in the U.S., so have a great day.
Thanks for reply! Guitar should be light! I like around 7lbs. I am so happy that I really noticed my body condition when I was around 50! Since then I am taking care of my body condition with eating healthy, working out, stretching etc. Thank you!
Great to hear that attitude . I appreciate something positive on the internet. I learned a long time ago, there's always another guitar player better than me, so not my goal. Do the best I can do.
You're very welcome! Comparing a little for learning is good but no hurt feeling. There are so many great guitar players! I have one learned one amazing concept from my Karate Teacher... that really helped ME.
My daughter knows your sound from the first note Sensei, and she also hears you in my playing now…. That’s why I’m happy with my guitar playing as of now. Keep working out, looking sharp Tomo…. Check out Paul Chek, he is one of my exercise mentors…. I was in Training with the Navy Seals when I was in the military class 291 and 293, so I know what over training is like haha. Paul Chek has brought me back to my center. Love you Sir you inspire me.
The wonder of Guitar practice. First day you look at the music and it's impossible, no way can I play that. After a few months one day you find yourself playing what you thought wasn't possible. Seeing progress and working on being the best version of yourself is the joy for me, not playing for fame, money, girls whatever not an ego trip but because you love playing.
Thank you Tomo, you have inspired me and also made me happy by improving my guitar playing. I am a subscriber to your guitar wisdom course and I enjoy it very much. I understand music which is the key. Love ❤️ and peace ✌️☮️ to you my friend.
Hi Tomo Sensei! Big hugs from Brazil! I'am a huuuuuuge fan! I Love so much to play guitar, but I'm always feel terrible at guitar playing, and never could really be good in music theory because of my dislexia and learning problems. But everytime that I listen blues, my heart rejoice, and I fell so happy, and I wanted sooooo much to really play blues, that almost hurt. I dont know if I should pla or just listen to guitar, because I'm terrible at learning and playing, but your channel always kinlde my heart with the passion for this magnificent instrument that we love, thanks for be here sharing this philosophy with us!
Thanks for sharing! You can learn Music Theory witty using proper terms. Just learn the sounds & explanation around those. Learn super simple & super slowly! One thing at times! If you learn triads, just learn only 3 strings for a week or more! Stay with one topic for a long time! You can learn everything at my Guitar Wisdom. Thank you so much!
Kinda needed an episode like this, one funny little incident that made my day is someone yelling Freebird from outside....while i was playing in my old apartment a couple of floors up. Finding my self in a place of uncertainty, & this episode helped a little in putting a few things in their place in my head. Thank you!
I was never after being "the best guitar player". Actually, my biggest role model is probably: Miya, the bandleader of the japanese band Mucc. Not a virtuoso, just a competent guitar player, songwriter, arranger and producer (Ryuusei is my favourite song by them). All I want is to create music that I really love and then also touches other people. And whenever I doubted my technical ability, after a while I remembered him and 're-realized' that I don't have to be a guitar god to fulfil my musical goals. I might be just as self-critical with my songwriting and production skills as others are with their technical ability, though, but I feel like I'm in a healthy enough place regarding this whole topic
W O W. Thank you in the beautiful honor of your wonderful words besides the expressive movement's teachings of such excellence music 🎵🎶 instructions may we never lose you in our journey and lives you touched 🥲 today thank you as music honorable mention.
@@TomoFujitaMusic Tomo ; We are greatful and thankful for your honesty in the teaching/musical information you encourage us with. For many other it's a secret they no way can share or show us huh? They had to have learned it somewhere. But from the heart ❤️ feeling's honorable thank's Tomo
I'm "content" with my level (44 years exp). Been in Prog Band - never stop learning. The one thing that I always try to convey is emotion. Some of the simplest note sequences can draw so much depth. To me it's not the only sequence but how you squeeze every bit of pain / hurt / joy from each note. I think of the Johnny Cash cover "Hurt" - we saw his heart in the raw. I think that approach to your instrument is the mountain. Am I happy, I'm happy I'm still on the road to finding this "freedom".
Hi Tomo! And thank you for this. We can all identify with it! I didn't start playing until I was 18, and even though I never put it down and progressed fairly quickly, I was happy to be self taught, because i was in art school for painting and i figured, thats enough formal education!" And so had long periods of stagnation and was way too content relying on my same old tricks. I knew that I played things based in much more theory than I was intellectually aware of, but sort of neglected it because I thought it would somehow take the joy out of the guitar. Now, 24 years later I am finally learning the theory behind what I play, and also how to apply these lessons in a way that (hopefully) makes my playing more sophisticated and tasteful. And sure, once you know more you realize that there is so much further to go...but I'm on my way! And while I doubt I will ever be able to "shred" because I started so late, and maybe lack some fast twitch muscle on the genetic side, I have a vast new appreciation for guitar, and music, and find myself achieving breakthroughs on a regular basis, because of a combination of my own desire to learn and amazing learning resources and teachers like you. What a wonder time to be alive as a guitarist. I almost feel like a college student again, but this time studying music, from some of the greatest mentors in the world, like yourself. Can't thank you enough.
Thank you so much for sharing. Music Theory has two types. Stiff one or Fun approach one... So please don't think that Music theory can take something away from you. That's only if you took theory in wrong way! I teach music theory at my Guitar Wisdom. Test these 24 video lessons how much you know already?
Thanks, Tomo! So important to balance between staying inspired to put in the effort and time (I want to groove like Tomo while playing as clean as Tomo!), but enjoying the journey, because why do it otherwise? Maybe especially, for players like me who started later.
i think an important lesson is that you do not achieve happiness, it is always there you just have to choose to be happy and it really is that simple you just have to make the decision
IF my biggest problems was sounding like Larry Carlton I would be thrilled. It would be quite impressive because I play mainly upright bass so getting that Carlton sound is pretty hard on an upright...:)I remember listening to your first album and seeing you play some nights at the Acton Jazz cafe back around 1999 or maybe 2000. I think Larry Finn was on drums some of those nights. Your sound was pretty dialed in then. Your advice to immerse yourself in a style and commit to it is really helpful. Even if it takes a long time it's so important to listen to the great recordings over and over again to really understand that style.Even if you start to broaden your horizons later you will have a strong foundation.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. Larry Carlton is still my hero. But we need only ONE Larry Carlton! So I had to decide what not to do! So I get my own tone & my own style. I started getting my own tone & my own style just around 1995.... 1991 when I realized that "I don't have PURE blues in me!" 1991 I decided to avoid JAZZ! Only blues! and go to church on every Sundays (for playing Gospel) ... Took my own 4 year blues college inside of me! That time I know why 4 years (College) Takes time to understand one subject so well! No rush! Thank you so much!
Great post Tomo and thank you for sharing your thoughts. I work in film and television producing commercials and am challenged to have consistency in my guitar practice. I've been playing by ear a long time but just recently trying to actually learn some music theory behind it. It is definitely challenging to play scales and do basic exercises instead of satiating myself jamming to my favorite classic rock.
I don't own an electric, tomo. Failing to play shreddy blues on my acoustic everytime I try to play has become a habit. And when I watch all these youtube heavyweights playing what I wanna play, Sounding how I wanna sound like, really hurts me. It's almost like I hit the wall. No, I'm not happy. I'm not happy for a long time now, sensei.
Even just own one acoustic guitar. You are so fortunate. Be thankful first before you start. Learn something different? Nice chords? Great blues groove? Look for your choices instead comparing too much.
I'm afraid I think sums me up for the last few months. Happy in my music though. I'm learning far more and faster than I did as a child. In two bands keeps me distracted from being afraid, afraid of losing my best friend my cat. Sold most of my guitars to pay for her vet bills but it's not enough. Every moment is a blessing and precious together. I play music for her
Last year on august I lost my Doberman dog, she was a sweetheart and one day she just didn’t woke up, to be honest I haven’t really recovered from her loss, sometimes I still cry when I see a photo of us together, but I’m glad we were together for some years, sorry, I just had to take that out of my chest

Thanks for sharing. Once I gave up my guitar dream too! Good job!
You bring real life to your teachings and subtle disquise of comitment to the guitar, also known as love for the instrument, it is refreshing to the mind of real people that love the way music feels when played frombthe heart using tecnique and knowledge, thank You for this rich video.
Thanks so much for your kind words! Very rewarding comment!
I absolutely agree with you my friend,,,,,great lesson
great lesson on life itself!!
Glad you liked it! Thank you so much!
Firstly Tomo sensei is one of the teacher that changes my play by just few videos
He's an amazing teacher I highly recommend
So my short story
During year 2019-2022
So much changes in life since Corona
From quitting my job to move to europe
I just found Tomo Channel in past few weeks my morning routine is wake up and practice with his videos
And the phrases "Be kind to yourself"
It's what I always think of when I'm put myself in hard situations
Thank you So much Tomo sensei 🙏🏻
Thanks for sharing! So happy to hear that. Glad to be helpful. Good job! You changed things better way by yourself. Thank you!
Thank you.
You are so fortunate to have wonderful parents ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks tomo. I only know that Joy i feel wheni learn something new with my guitar Is indescribable and enormous. So, i'm very happy when this happens
My pleasure! Thanks for sharing your joy! So happy to hear that!
Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
You're very welcome! Thank you so much!
I feel that he is the Dalai Lama of the guitar.
Thank you Maestro !!! For sharing yours thoughts
My pleasure! Thank you!
I am really happy! and even more because I recently learned the "Lovely chords" you terached in another video. And every time I play something with them I feel really happy! and they make me feel good! You and your wisdom are my inspiration!
Lovey Chords, Happy Chords... Thank you! Music can bring you a joy! So happy to hear that. Thank you.
teaching happiness in the context of a skill feels refreshing.
Thank you so much!
Big respect for your dedication. So many gems in this video. Thanks Tomo!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
Happy? Yes! When I pick up the guitar to play a song, to practice, to talk about guitar playing with other musicians - these things make me happy and I feel connected to others who share something that makes us all happy.
Thanks for sharing! Good job! Awesome!
So happy to hear that. Thanks for sharing. Learn more triads! Thank you!
Outstanding playing, obviously the result of amazing teaching.
Thanks so much!
Thank you Fujita sensei, I need to hear this today. Would love to be able to learn even more from you one day, more lessons are in my future. Learning Katakana and Hiragana has been difficult too, you inspire constantly.
ありがとうございます
Thanks for listening! So happy to hear your thought. Please join my Guitar Wisdom. You will change something. ありがとうございます!
stay positive Tomo. thank you for the video
Thank you! You're welcome!
I'm much happier after watching this.
So happy to hear that. Thank you!
Thank you Tomo
You're welcome! Thank you!
Such a wonderful talk. Thanks for the inspiration and wisdom, I'm gonna make it one day and think back on all your lessons that helped guide me through life. Much Love and Peace
Thank you so much! You're very welcome!
you’re such a positive guy tomo. love this.
Thank you!
Thanks Tomo very inspirational
Thanks so much!
Good job! Thanks for sharing!
Of all the videos of yours that I’ve watched this far (I’m working my way back through your catalog), this is my favorite.
Glad you enjoy it! Thank you so much!
Thankful!
Don’t worry
Don’t compare
Don’t expect too fast
Be kind to yourself

Thank you!
I always play guitar when i feel sad or anxious. And life feels better
You are expressing yourself with your feeling! Awesome!
Great to hear that attitude . I appreciate something positive on the internet. I learned a long time ago, there's always another guitar player better than me, so not my goal. Do the best I can do.
Absolutely! Great one! That's what my Karate teacher told me "Do not try to be number ONE, be ONLY ONE!
Needed to hear this today thank you! I am happy with my playing but like you said I am very bad to compare to others
You're very welcome! Comparing a little for learning is good but no hurt feeling. There are so many great guitar players! I have one learned one amazing concept from my Karate Teacher... that really helped ME.
This was genuine. Much respect.
Thank you so much!
Thank you for all you do Tomo. This is a very inspiring video filled with so many gems . Your love of people , music and guitars is contagious 🙏🎶🎸
Thanks for listening! So happy to hear that. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this video clip. It was very inspirational made me realize what I should do to keep moving forward. ありがとうございます。
You're very welcome! So happy to hear that. ご丁寧にありがとうございます!
Wow! So happy to hear that. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing! Good job!
I just want to play a few moderately difficult pieces from start to finish. Thanks for all you provide.
You're very welcome!
Thank you Tomo, you have inspired me and also made me happy by improving my guitar playing. I am a subscriber to your guitar wisdom course and I enjoy it very much. I understand music which is the key.
Love ❤️ and peace ✌️☮️ to you my friend.
Good job Steve! Thank you!
I'm happy after hearing you tallk. Happy and inspired
So happy to hear that. Thank you!
You're the guitar mentor I've never had in my real life.
Thank you!

You are Zen on the right path,,, don’t change don’t stop everything will be revealed
Thank you so much! I am so thankful what I have now.
Kinda needed an episode like this, one funny little incident that made my day is someone yelling Freebird from outside....while i was playing in my old apartment a couple of floors up. Finding my self in a place of uncertainty, & this episode helped a little in putting a few things in their place in my head. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing! You can jam through windows!
I am so happy, I stumbled upon this video!
Great to hear that! Thank you!
I was never after being "the best guitar player". Actually, my biggest role model is probably:
Miya, the bandleader of the japanese band Mucc.
Thanks for sharing! Beautiful! I am really into song writing too.
Love you tomo. Keep being a legend.
Thanks so much!
W O W. Thank you in the beautiful honor of your wonderful words besides the expressive movement's teachings of such excellence music 🎵🎶 instructions may we never lose you in our journey and lives you touched 🥲 today thank you as music honorable mention.

We are greatful and thankful for your honesty in the teaching/musical information you encourage us with. For many other it's a secret they no way can share or show us huh? They had to have learned it somewhere. But from the heart ❤️ feeling's honorable thank's Tomo

I'm very happy. I get to play guitar in a time when I can learn anything and play with others . it's a pleasure 🙏
Great! Keep going!
Thanks for sharing! Good job! Please keep going!
Extremely happy 🙂 What an unbelievable feeling it is to be able to express your true self through sound.
Absolutely! Good job!
I love this guy!
Thanks!
Thanks, Tomo! So important to balance between staying inspired to put in the effort and time (I want to groove like Tomo while playing as clean as Tomo!), but enjoying the journey, because why do it otherwise? Maybe especially, for players like me who started later.
Absolutely! Good job! I practice R 3 7 Swing groove with a metronome even 60 seconds! Thank you!
i think an important lesson is that you do not achieve happiness, it is always there you just have to choose to be happy and it really is that simple you just have to make the decision
Thanks for sharing.
No rush! Thank you so much!
gold mine of a video.
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing! Keep up with your good work!
I appreciate the lessons Tomo
Thank you!
I will, sensei. I should explore more definitive sections of the acoustic. Thank you!
@@thisissourya Yes! You're welcome!
Thank you, sensei!

I play music for her
Thanks for sharing. I still think about my first dog Prince. Please enjoy every moments with her.
@@TomoFujitaMusic Thank you Tomo. Every breath I take is thanks to her, keeping me going this far and for rediscovering music again.

Many thanks Fujita-sama. This lesson goes so much beyond guitars and music.
Glad you like it! Thank you so much!
