The actual origin for paul is that when they were making anton's sprites they used the idle sprite of wario from warioland 3, the devs actually finished an original sprite sheet for anton quicker and the only sprite they made from editing wario's sprite was left as a joke, that's why paul is only an idle sprite
It would have been cool to have seen Paul's transformation scene animated, but honestly, it's way funnier to have Anton's transformation scene, then to suddenly see THAT beast show up at 6:12! XD
I mean what's the spoiler? It's preety obvious from the outset that Satan will be the final boss, and the thumbnail doesn't even show one of his later phases. While in Paul's case he is taken out of context, so you probably don't know who/what he is.
