Man, that tip about angling them in opposite "v" patterns was one I had not seen before, brilliant!! I had always thought they dart to the side based on the way the tips are beveled, but your anatomy lesson about the flex of both directions makes a lot of sense. Glasses and a drop of oil are how I start all air nailer projects. Thanks for putting this together and glad you didn't get seriously injured!
Thank you brother. I appreciate the kind words about the anatomy lesson. That sounds a little funny. Good to hear from you brother I appreciate everything you do for This channel and how involved you are
Thanks . I am happy that you LIVED to tell your story and that you are able to SEE your work with BOTH EYES ! ! Cheers from Canada, Polar Bear country.
I bought a Porter Cable tank and nailers set. I do not know how to use it so I am watching lots of videos to learn I want to create an accent wall of wood planks. Your video is super helpful. Thank you for sharing your excellent tips!!
Man thank you so much! I saw this video not to long ago. And I just made 12 crates and I didn't have a single blow out! You my sir saved me a bunch of frustration
Dude, Thank you for the Tips. I will be using my nailer I purchased 2yrs ago for the 1st time to install my new sub-floor. It's safe to say I'd be lost had I not watched your video, so Thank you. Also, Great info that I can use on other projects I hadn't thought about doing...
Dude, do more tip videos. Really liked how you explained the nail anatomy instead of just saying "shoot this way." Also, brilliant point on using opposing geometry to get better holds, and love your overhead storage. I've stored mine overheard for a while in a much less elegant solution that wasn't plugged in. Yours is way better, but yeah.. it's super handy.
Thank you so much my man. It really means a lot coming from you buddy! I think I will make a few of these in the future in between projects. Thank you for the insight
Some brilliant tips much apricated video, just bought a nail gun and this is a very valued tips, and the added warning of how easy an incident can occur. That message really hits home, i most certainly wear protective glasses whenever I use my nail gun, I probably wouldn't have had I not seen your video. So thanks for a very enlightening lesson on nail gun use. (UK)
I learned a lot, especially from the wooden model you made; the whole video was informative. You were so lucky that nail didn't do any permanent damage! Thanks for sharing, you are a very good teacher.
I bet that brad nail accident is 1 in a billion. Thanks for sharing. I have unwittingly cut many nails in the past. I hope now i will be more aware of the potential dangers going forward.
Thank you so much, I've learned so much from you about properly using a nail gun and proper safety precautions. People like you that really know what you are talking about really makes us all better people. Knowledge is so powerful. Excellent tips and tricks. Man, I am so please that your serious injury wasn't as bad as it could have been and thank you for sharing. Be safe.
Seeing your angled nailing reminded me I was taught this trick at school sixty years ago - it was called *dovetail nailing*. In all the years I've been watching YT vlogs I've never seen anybody else adopt this practice, so thanks for reintroducing it.
Hey Chris: I have watched a lot of videos and yours is about the best, I mean it one of the best. You have a great sense of humor which as to your sincerity great video.
Great video. Very easy to understand. You didn't have to act like a goof ball like some videos people make so viewers will keep watching. I shut those down before I get to far into them and waste my time. I enjoyed the video and I learned something. and no cussing in the video . Thank you...
I am a homeowner with a day job who does not do anything construction related for a living. That being said I am working on framing out my basement and Bought this ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHQsUrwNr5GQrnx9V4xDdUr56qxwuiBHt gun. I have done a few walls already, have probably shot a couple hundred nails through this thing and have yet to have a misfire. It works awesome, good depth on every nail if you have your compressor set right. My literal only complaint is that it is a bit heavy and my arm can get a little tired especially whrn I am nailing at odd angles. That being said I am super happy with it and would buy it again. Hoping the old girl allows me to get my whole basement finished out!
Good video, thanks learned a great deal. I like the angle shooting of the nails, that will help. Stay safe and thanks for mentioning eye protection so much. You can't mention it often enough.
Great tip on the brad nail gun orientation! I had several blowouts of brad nails flexing in the wood and coming out the side of a piece, until I figured that one out! Always orient the gun perpendicular to the piece of wood that could suffer a blowout. The nails are connected in the strip side-by-side on their narrow side (if they were stacked flat, connected on their wide side, that would be more plastic-connected surface area for the gun to have to break when it hammers the nail in). So the nails stacked side-by-side in the magazine like that, causes the nail to flex out the left or right side of the gun, not toward the top or bottom of the gun, and thus orienting the gun perpendicular to the wood means any nail flex would still leave the nail fully embedded in the wood. SO key to understand that, as a brad nail blowout is very difficult to pull out. You can't grab it and pull it through, since the head resists going through the smaller hole the nail body created. And the nail itself is too flimsy to grab with pliers and push out backwards, at least very easily, plus the plastic coating that held the strip of nails together heats up from friction during the driving, and cools like a glue. VERY key tip there, and thanks for getting the word out!
Those are all great tips and especially how to drive the brad nail into the wood. Your accident was more of a saw table accident and they tell us that saw table accidents are to be avoided at all costs and can be very dangerous and possibly deadly. I am glad things worked out for you and that you are safe.
i just get my box of three gun and Bostitch compressor,,,,thans to you ,god bless you man.just start wood work two years ago. at 65,stupid me,,, just my hobby man thanks again...from Canada.
I have been using a nail gun for years, to say this video was one of the best informitive practical vidios I have ever seen would be an understatement... Your channel has now become my favourite must see channel, always, very informative, instructions easy to follow. You have a natural talent for this too. Keep up the good work. Ps I will send you my address so the money doesn't go astray.
Thank you for taking the time to upload this video and share your tips. I just brought my brad nail gun home and if you’re definitely pointing me in the right direction. New sub 👍🏻
Awesome video Chris! Wished I had found you & this video about 1 month ago since I dealt with that exact problem with the nails shooting out the side of my cedar chests I was making for my daughters!! Nails shooting pout the side like that is a huge headache, especially when they occur in very tight areas! Great tips !! Btw, your garage set up is spot on, with everything in its place! I'm just now trying to get mine going as well and I love the way you have it all arranged! Thank God, you didn't end up with serious reprocussions from that nail shot to your throat! Wow! 🙏 You just made me a believer in wearing my safety glasses now for sure bro. Chris! Thanks! New sub. brother & Thanks again!
Hey Chris. First time viewer for your channel and now a new subscriber. Wanted to quickly share a saw related near miss injury. Coworker was using a POS company owned miter saw which was missing parts including any safety features. Not quite sure what he was cutting however he managed hit something metal and one of the carbide saw teeth broke off and hit the brim of my brand-new ballcap I was wearing. It hit with such force it almost knocked my hat off as it lodged into the brim. I am one of those who always wears safety glasses on the job site. BTW, after that near miss, I cut the power cord off the saw and pitched the saw in the dumpster.
Thanks for an EXCELLENT Video... You pointed out several things i was not aware of... Also your tips were outstanding, very relevant and informative.... Greatly appreciate your efforts to make us better (and safer) 'Brad nailers'!
Chris, great tips on nailers. I was browsing and came across your channel. Looks like you know what your doing, and it is nice to see your enthusiasm. You teach like many of my old Navy instructors. Great job, keep creating. I have a lot of catching up to do, I subscribed and and looking forward to watching all of your videos. Work safe, work smart!
My construction professor always has a lesson about safety. Treat it like a gun, because it is one. He also taught us that once you disconnect the line to try to fire it into a piece of scrap just to make sure that it would not fire (if there was leftover air in the gun).
It's much easily to glean info and tips from your videos than some others on youtube, LOL. Your mix of great tips, solid info and your humor make the videos fun to watch and educational as well. Keep it going big guy!
Very Cool video Pal. Lots of great tips, thx for sharing them. I had the same thing happen to me with the saw and brad, but in the shoulder.Stuck in me like an arrow. Many years ago but I still have the scar.....Stay Safe Bro. 👍👍
Great tips buddy! I feel silly admitting this, but I did not know about the direction of the brand nail! Thanks for the info!!! And glad you weren’t seriously hurt!
You are amazing!!!!! THANKS A LOT BROTHER. Just started with doing some woodwork and this tips and tricks are wonderful THANKS FOR REAL🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 GOD BLESS.
Never mind dodging a bullet, more like dodging a nail ouch, some great tips there the only one i didn't know was the slight angle nail now that was a great tip. I haven't used my Compressor for a while now since i bought the Ryobi battery nail gun, a brilliant piece of kit i love it, plus i have loads of Ryobi drills and stuff so i have the batteries for it, anyway once again Chris a great video, take care mate. Barry (ENG)
Thanks as always Barry. I’ve contemplated upgrading my Nailers to those battery powered ones. I bet they’re super convenient. Probably going to do that in about a year. As always great to hear from you brother
You made some very good points. I like the curve on the nails to keep them going through. As far as hitting the nail with the saw? Man I always check that. I've seen some stupid things happen. Here's a tip for you. Even with safety glasses on people tend to turn their heads. This will allow small parts to come in through the side of the glasses. This happened to me 3 times in 15 years requiring an Opthamologist to dig and drill the pieces from my eyeballs. I now look at my work straight on and have not been hit yet.... I will sub to you channel. I think we have much to teach each other..................
The kind of point on most Brad nails is called a chisel point. The nail will bend parallel to that chisel. If you want your nails to bend less try taking the sharp point off the tip. This tip also works well when nailing into very hardwoods. Old carpenters would take a nail and rub it on concrete before using . So check the angle of the bevel on the tip it will point to the direction it will blow out.
Ok so until i saw that first tip you gave, i was ready to toss my brad nailer because it was always blowing brads out the side. A thousand thank you's Chris.
Ah, now that is smart! You have a light that mounts low and reaches around the garage door when open. That is smart. When my door is open I lose the lights above.
just got my nailer thank you for a really great heads up awareness review. I'm nailed to your chanel.
Thank you so much broTher
thank you very much !
Try walking around your house for 10 minutes with your eyes closed. It suddenly becomes super important to protect your eyes. Great advice bro!
Thanks for making this. I am just now starting out with woodworking ....after 40 years of observation and appreciation for the craft.
Man, that tip about angling them in opposite "v" patterns was one I had not seen before, brilliant!! I know I’m late but thanks for the tips. I’m using a nail gun for the first time and your tips helped me a lot. Thanks
Hey no worries better late than never. You’re very welcome thanks for the comment
Great tip on the brad nail gun orientation! I had several blowouts of brad nails flexing in the wood and coming out the side of a piece, until I figured that one out! The nails are connected in the strip side-by-side on their narrow side (if they were stacked flat, connected on their wide side, that would be more plastic-connected surface area for the gun to have to break when it hammers the nail in). That’s probably the best way you could articulate that in words. I appreciate the very thoughtful comment and I hope all is well with you
Great advice. I have used a framing nailer, but was never owned one. I bought my first brad nailer and this video is a great way to get started.
Yikes! Glad you didn’t get injured worse. Thank you for sharing your experience and let’s all stay safe ✌🏽

First time viewer. Fantastic video.
Great video keep safe
Great video, should have 900, 000 views ! Thanks for posting Bud :)
Sounds good man thanks for being here. Welcome aboard man I’m glad you’re OK brother I hope that wasn’t too much damage done
This is really good information thank you so much for sharing
Thanks for this info very helpful - I used to get those blowouts - makes sense when you speak about the orientation.
I’m so glad it was helpful for you. Thanks again for let me know
Very good. Thank you.
Thank you as well
Ok so until i saw that first tip you gave, i was ready to toss my brad nailer because it was always blowing brads out the side. A thousand thank you's Chris.
Please do not toss that thing into the trash. LOL I hope you find some great uses for it now
great "anatomy of a nail" section
Ah, now that is smart! You have a light that mounts low and reaches around the garage door when open. That is smart. When my door is open I lose the lights above.
Good stuff. Thanks for the injury info.
You got it Jim you’re welcome thank you
You nailed it.
