Last time we heard The Doctor's Theme was during Jodie Whittaker's debut in Twice Upon a Time. After several years of absence, it's finally back, and I absolutely love this new variant. I don't just associate the theme with one incarnation, I see it as a theme for all Doctors no matter who.
Absolutely! I've always seen it this way! The theme is the same, it just evolves with every incarnation of The Doctor. Just like how the core essence of who the Doctor is essentially the same, but with some changes in behaviour.
I almost lost it at this scene. This piece of music is so deeply ingrained in my brain, and I get goosebumps every time I hear it. And this version was beautiful!
What I love about this is it’s absolutely the theme we love but channeled through the darker, more ominous, mythic sound that Murray evolved over the Smith and Capaldi eras.
So in this episode we had music from the 10th, 11th and 13th Doctors. I wonder if that means something. Not to mention that one of Rose's stuffed toys was Karvanista, they even played back his howling from The Vanquishers
@@swanboyproductions there was a remix of the themes when the Doctor was sitting by himself, analysing the ship, if you listen carefully you can hear most of it and the 11th Doctor theme was inside the ship with Donna, that one was obvious
I love how The Star Beast was peppered with variations of these kinds of nostalgic themes, but mostly not in an in-your-face sort of way. I've missed Murray Gold's music. Not that I disliked Segun Akinola, but Gold wrote so many tracks that just instantly became iconic and have stuck with me.

Was at work when I saw The Star Beast. Mind you i have Murray Golds entire Who catalog memorized from years of relistening, and decided to use this episode to get one of my cases into the show (im a social worker and it was a saturday) and everytime a familiar theme played i had to maintain a professional facade so hard otherwise i would have burst out in tears right in front of my case. This along with donnas theme were 2 prime examples of the challenge.
I was so happy to hear this return in a new episode, one of the things I didn't like about the Chibnall era, bad writing aside, was that we basically lost most of the musical continuity from series 1-10 and that was a pretty big deal for me as I've always loved Murray's style of music and the established themes. The return of Gold's music makes the 13 era seem like even more of an odd 5 year intermission overall and now we're back to business as usual.
What i dont understand is he just gets a new sonic out of nowhere? No explanation for what happened to the old one? Its details like this which kinda detract from the episode
While I love this track ... If it's not too much to ask, would you be able to do the track that 'DW Unofficial' calls The Battle in their Soundtrack for most of the episode? Because it's one of my favourite bits of music from The Star Beast, and that's a high bar of praise.

@@techandtrains101 It's not the reason because I also do story-medleys with quotes from the episodes and released music! I just didn't have the heart to do anything from the 13 era, especially after Spy fall and destroying Gallifrey off screen. The Day of the doctor in theatre was one of the best day of my life and now part of it is ruined.
@@OswinPond Jodie's era's music literally sounded like the PS2 Menu Music. I tried as hard as I could to listen for any themes or leitmotifs, and there was just nothing. The whole era was nothing. Honestly, it would have been better if Dr Who had gone on hiatus.
@@TamrailKinogo i just feel like if the music is trying to tell us how to feel every second, instead of highlighting what’s onscreen, it’s distracting. Good music supports the scene. Sometimes it rises up to be the star. But if it’s constantly trying to call attention to itself, it’s bad. I think Gold was great in Moffat’s era. Often too bombastic in RTD’s

It has chanting similar to the 13th Doctor's theme but more introspective or melancholic in a way, with the 10th Doctor's theme/leitmotif mixed in

I think it’s part of the whole ‘reset’ they’re doing, particularly with the new Disney audience in mind, not trying to over complicate it.

I didn't like the era and I didn't like the music in the era either, I tried to force myself doing medleys but I didn't have the heart doing it

I have the opposite opinion. I thought it was a bit tame for Murray Gold. He's usually more bombastic!
