      Don't think its a case of dislike, but more the idea or reputation. Similar to the early BMW M3's that were automatics. They were labeled as trophy wife cars. The same with these. I've heard them called trophy wife cars or similar. Which imo is wrong, as its a good looking and sounding car. Along the lines with Miata's. Despite being such a good car, the label will probably always be there.

      V Dub in the HAUSE yo, the first ones looked like Karmann Ghia's and had transmission troubles I remember, they didnt shift well, and they just looked nothing like a ferrari should look, like some idiot from lamborghini came by and thought lets make one of their actually good looking italian cars, look german.
      thankfully they fixed and they dont look that bad now, but when you use the name of a legendary car for your car, you better measure up and the first ones didnt
      granted no where near the scale of fail that that new countach knock off is however, like 3.2 million for a car that looks like a mclaren that you could do way better yourself with a 350K bodykit on a 550K car.

    So that you know some insights, Michael Schumacher himself took part of the development and testing of the Cali. Ferrari exposed it in its "Timeless masterpieces" exhibition at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello among the most iconic models designed. The V8 engine is also exposed at the Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena, like an art piece. Some people used to hate it when it was presented and while in production, usually haters who could not afford and owned something else, or some Ferrari "purists" who didn't know much about Ferrari history (full of grand tourers with front engines) who complained a bit because of its concept. Not anymore. Now, it is appreciated a lot, more and more overtime, thanks to Pininfarina's timeless design and the glorious sound of one of the last naturally aspirated V8. A true Ferrari, no doubt, to whom that know a bit about Ferrari and how the Cali was developed.

Recently one of these parked opposite to our house (black)and I was amazed how huge this thing is. Remember the original 250 California? That was a sleek and slim sports car. This is definitely not. Greetings Maurice, as a longtime gearhead, both 2 and 4 wheels, but primarily 2, I have always had a love for Italian supercars, especially Ferrari's. The California was introduced at the Paris autoshow in 2008, and was met with more than a little scepticism. The fact that being a front engined V8, certainly not the norm in Ferrari's history , and that the California actually started out as a Maserati project that became too expensive but the research and development process was too advanced to cancel just added fuel to the fire for disdain. Ferrari's own marketing nomenclature at the time stated it's styling was meant to attract a 50 percent ratio of women buyers. In all honesty, there is some credence to the criticism of the Coke bottle -kick swage-line on the doors. Some said it was corny and overdone. Compared to OTHER Ferrari's, perhaps. But, I think if you step back, the overall look is stunning, if not just a tad chunky. But nothing is perfect, the overall car is still beautiful. The example here, in kinda a slate gray, is very nice. I had to chuckle a bit when Mrs Wizard pointed out the 240 mile per hour speedometer. No, the car won't go that fast, the top speed of a California is around 198 miles per hour ( which I believe is fast enough!) The back seating arrangement( right!)was originally designed many decades ago( for these types of exotic G.T. cars) to just offer enough storage space for luggage for a weekend getaway for your mistress and yourself. That's where the term 2 +2 came from many decades ago. You are correct era wise on the introduction of the 458, it was 2009. When introduced, the 458 was the marque's most powerful v8 road car ever. Anything wearing the prancing horse insignia is stunning and timeless( with one possible exception, a mondial 8 from 1981!),and I lust whenever I attend a Italian autoshow. But, I tell myself to be satisfied for possessing a very cherry jaguar XJ8.Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Cheers!!!!!!

    I’d buy this. I’ve had 7 Ferrari’s since 1985, but always the ones people look down on. Four 308 GT4’s, a Dino which was considered not a proper Ferrari, too at launch, and a Mondial 3.4t & now at Mondial 3.2 Coupe. The fact is Ferrari do not make rubbish cars. I chose the 3.2 as they are used for Historic Ferrari Racing & the engine is reliable. The handling is wonderful and I just had the Koni Dampers rebuilt for this year to sharpen it up for trackday use. I deliberately chose a high mileage car with a full history. I’ve got it up to 73,450 now. English owners try to keep the mileage low! Crazy.
    I like the idea of the California for daily use in the sunny days, being newer it is probably more useable in Cities than my Mondial. The Mondial was designed for crossing Europe in comfort and it’s fine at that!
    The advantage of the cars people look down on is they cost less to buy! Mine has increased in value by £8k since I bought it despite using it a lot! The running costs are similar to my Saab 900! It is manual, no powering steering, no ECU and little to go wrong.
    The California will be more costly on service but look how fabulous it is. All this talk of its not a Ferrari is rubbish, it’s not intended for high speed racing. It does a fine daily driver job.

And if my priorities were otherwise I could drive something other than a New Edge Mustang for a fun car (stock look and stock motor) ... but "bro" it scratches the itch for probably less than a tune up on a Ferrari. I was thinking the same thing if somebody got onto me about having a Ferrari California I’d absolutely prefer it over any Mustang or Corvette… If I had one of those I would drive it all the time too. At least parts are available, and when people “store“ cars like that they getting bad condition faster than if they would just drive it a couple times per week at least start it and let it run and get warm once a week drive that thing enjoy it that’s what they are for this isn’t an f40 this isn’t the last modelT. I’d still be beyond angry if somebody bumped it though lol

    Several years ago I talked to a teaching physician who drove a California as a daily driver until the California T came out and then he traded up. Then the Portofino came out and you guessed it.

    I've really never understood the hate for the California. I've always thought they were awesome grand-touring cars. So they're not the track-weapon that the Enzo or the F50 was. Big deal. They're still great.

    I passed through Newton on my way to Dodge City on Saturday and drove by the shop. Just judging by the exterior, no one would predict the kind of exotic cars you guys are working on in there. Outside it's all rusted-out Gleaners and high plains drought. Inside, Porsches and Ferraris. Still and all, my dad's favorite video of yours is the one about your new airport people mover and your plans to convert it. Go figure.

    Very nice, the way that California is presented, but at the start Wizard you'd say you'd take this over a Mustang, Camaro or Vette anyway....but it's an 11 year old Ferrari, that certainly costs more than a new Mustang or Camaro at least..with huge insurance and running costs. For most people a new Mustang or Camaro IS better. Personally I'd take the Lexus LC 500 over all of them, it's exotic and desirable like the Ferrari...yet better built and more reliable than ANY of the above mentioned cars!

    • @Isalei84
      @Isalei84 Год назад

      Lexus "exotic and desirable like the Ferrari? You need better source of information, man.

    • @KnightIndustries572
      @KnightIndustries572 Год назад

      @@Isalei84 My eyes are my ‘source’ and the interior of the LC 500 craps all over a California in pretty much every measure. No shortage of motoring journos and reviewers that say the LC is one of the most beautiful and striking designs on the road too, not to mention that magnificent Yamaha tuned 5.0 litre V8. In styling terms, the California is pretty meh for a Ferrari. Now a Roma on the other hand, that looks amazing but is priced in the stratosphere.

    a black A pillar and roof were often a common option on California's and other Ferrari. I find it odd someone would wrap the pillars and roof black in this case. is it paint? it's hard to tell when the roof goes up in the video. I would leave it regardless. I think the black A pillars look sharp.
