I did my handbrake shoe adjustment yesterday. But....man my disc backing plate is so corroded and holed! Here in the UK the Japanese metal can and does suffer. Mine is a 2007 STi, and mine too had the bracket at the back for the caliper. Not sure what the round thing is on it, maybe just for vibration / sound deadening. That bracket was also nasty, so for that and the backing plates I used Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80, Isopon primer and Stonechip paint. My shoes would start binding after a while, and the other day the drum part of the disc was very hot, now adjusted it seems ok....for now. 2007 STi with 100k miles lol. Caliper was good, and the piston went back just by hand no problem.
