You shouldn't have to go through that awkward procedure to view your engine vital temperatures, what were BMW thinking!? Old school is best, I don't want to have to communicate with my tach using morse code to view my essential engine stats..

This is rediculous why BMW makes this so hard. Just put a real digital guage on the display. Thats why BMW means Busted -- MY -- Wallet!! Its like they don't want you to know the temp of your engine so you ending up destroying your heads to sell you a new BMW every 5 years.
Small correction. Sometimes Code starts Not from 2 Letters but with 1 letter and second digit. For example w447738 this is my situation, finally sorted 😜 So just use last 5 digits 🤟 Thanks 👍
Pretty much pointless since the temperature display does not stay on screen the whole time. If it could be set to display all of the time no matter what, that would be good. But no… BMW doesn't think you need to have vital engine information... lame.

Great video!! Unfortunately I blew a fuse (vvt fuse) on my battery in the trunk and ever since then I have been unable to read my coolant temp. Every time I go to put in Code 20 (based on my vin) it goes back to the original 1.00 screen. Would you know why this keeps happening? Also I just replaced coolant temperature sensor a few months back. Thank you!!
Make sure not to include the second character in your equation when adding the digits together this will cause the menu return to 1.00, I’ve uploaded a clear concise tutorial for those interested.
We’re you able to add a gauge on the pillar or the corner of the dash board without making it look too out of place I rather have a gauge Idky they decided it was smart to not have one
@@Michael-Ferdinand Tell you what I did. TEMU sells an OBD2 heads up display unit. Comes with the reflective adhesive for the windshield but I can see it fine. This unit that has speed volts and water temp built right into it. It registers in Celsius but that’s fine I just figured out where temp range should be and what the Celsius is. I do not plan to alter the post or drill it. Adhesive tape only. Wires can be snaked out of sight as there is plenty of slack. I’m putting in a multi accessory to accept this and a TPMS that I found on TEMU too. I think it looks ok. No it’s not factory but it gives me real time temp of the water and I think that’s invaluable.

So id done the code OFF part on 01 of the menu, then i go to the 07 part where he checks the temp and let go of the button the same as he does and it just goes back to the original screen of showing the time and under it says +24°C, is that my coolant temp or is my thermostat bad?
When i do this my button seems to not work. I did not do anything after 20 seconds. Even 30 seconds it dont work 😭😢 why you do this so complicated BMW. Even we can not even check oil with a dipstick for the motor. ☹😟
Hello I have bmw e90 2007 I replaced the thermostat and water pump, flushed the coolant and added new one. This BMW model has no electric water pump,right as it doesn't activate by turning on the heater and pressing the accelerator for 10 seconds So I tried opening the bleed screw and add coolant. I patiently waited to make the fluid stable and no bubbles visible. (Not sure if I did the right thing though). I closed the reservoir cap and started the engine. Temperature starting to increase. It reached 105degree celsius and slowly reach 108degree celcius. After 5mins it was at 110degree celcius so I turned it off. Is the temperature normal? If not what should I do? What is the maximum temperature for me to turn it off? Thanks

@@meriss1901 i tried checking with a mechanic they said 230 is too high but he was not sure and i went to bmw dealership but a manager said 220 F to 250 is ok but i dont know who to believe. My display is not working so i dont even know if its overheating. I honestly been driving it. And it hasnt leak antifreeze or had any problem yet with it. I dont use it everyday just when necessary. I want to just make sure its at operating temperature. Do you know what numbers is the correct operating temperature?

My car is going from 73 to 85degrees while driving, and if I stay idle for over 10 mins it's reached 117degrees, I have a e90 325i, please help do I have a faulty thermostat?
I've got a UK E90 320d (N47D20C, belt-driven water pump, 161bhp tuned to 221bhp) from April 2010 and it's usually between 83-88°C off the top of my head. Never seen it higher than I think 91°C. My daily route from a cold start with a mix of 30, 60 and 70mph, it usually takes about 11 mins/6 miles to be at (what I've read is the operating temp) 87°C. So yours sounds faulty; I had a somewhat similar situation in my Focus MK3 - the coolant temp often fluctuated, luckily it'd never go over 90°C but sometimes it would just randomly drop to about 70-75°C for a short while and back up again, like it had moments of opening too much. Changing the thermostat completely solved the issue in that instance, and it always stayed at the spec 83°C. But maybe it was just the coolant temperature sensor as the thermostat came with a new one but I never bothered testing I just replaced the pair.
@PriceyUK Thank you for your reply, I took it to the mechanic they diagnosed it it was my fan not coming on, wires for the fan were cut by previous owner dont know why, It has been rewired and temperature seems better now when idle
I tried this, and it would not work. Watched again, noted steps, tried a few more times, didn't work. Then power lock sensor stopped responding to my key, and several other convenience features also stopped working. After two restarts of the motor back to (apparently) normal. *sigh* the internet....
Bit of a late reply, but from what I've read for my specific engine N47D20C it's 87°C. Sounds ideal, as my last car's thermostat (Ford Focus MK3 with the T1DB engine) had an opening temp of 83°C.

Kat Bil the temperature seems ok, your car can go to 104 safely that is normal for it, 85 in highway is because you are travelling fast and the wind cools your engine and when In city there is no wind and I presume it is very hot , are u sure the water isn’t leaking anywhere?

It has oil temp. And since bmw coolant system is pressurized oil temp is more vital.
If you oil temp is under control then So is coolant
You have a point but when I had my E90 there wasn't any Oil Temp gauge/digital reading on the cluster either.
I agree, bloody stupid economy gauge that nobody ever uses taking up space that could easily have housed a normal temp gauge instead.🤦♂️

Seems strange…….. I was always taught it’s important to watch oil pressure and coolant temperatures when owning and maintaining a car.
Best way is to use a Bluetooth OBD2 sensor like Bluedriver ™ and send it to your phone

You can change the temperature units by going to the setting menu either Celsius or Fahrenheit . I have mines in Fahrenheit. Is your choice

Your number is 38 , but the KTMP -MOM is the temperature of antifreeze , you cant look the temperature of the car in this menu

@@bryanlima3639 after a lot of research i found out that these are the normal temperature for these models, 108c-115c so nothing to worry about

AUTO TUBE should be around 190 to 210. your thermostat probably isn't opening and thats why is sitting at a high temp

Once your on menu 1. Hold the button for another 2seconds and the hidden menu should come up

If it's very warm that's ok, as long as it goes down when you speed up. cars can get hot idling in town without any cooling

Kat Bil Maybe head gasket leak, is the exhaust smokey, lots of white smoke? It then would take water and the car would overheat
