For anyone driving a BMW E-series, you should definitely try this new beta feature in Carista! I’ve been using it for a bit, and it turns the fuel consumption gauge into a real-time temperature monitor. You can even customize the temperature range that shows up, which is super handy. What I love is that you don’t lose the fuel consumption display either - you can just move it to the center screen by pressing the BC button, so you still have both pieces of info right there. Honestly, it’s been a game-changer for me. Definitely worth checking out!
As an enthusiast car company, I cannot understand why BMW removed the engine temperature gauge on certain models. You still get one on a Honda civic, but not on a 228i which costs nearly double when adding a few options. As an example, I would say the 228i is right up there as a enthusiast product with a smaller niche audience but no engine temp gauge? Throw in the e46 sub frame issues and I'd have to say as the years roll on, BMW continues to bewilder me in what they charge for their products.
Inconvenient but I think their thought process is something along the lines of their customers are gonna keep up with servicing so they don't need to check the engine temp anymore😭
no the reason is because you don't need a temp gauge, the old style temp gauges where next to useless, the BMW temp's vary a lot so you can't really tell much, if there is a real problem, the screen will tell you. You don't need to wait for the car to warm up, you just drive it. BM's also run hotter, there is a LOT more involved that what you have asked and has been answered, but the answer is def NOT so you can bring it into the dealership... MOST owners form new are not interested (especially on a BMW) about engine temperature
Most manufacturers don't display the water temp accurately on their gauges. They are all designed to sit just below the middle when the temp is anywhere near the normal operating temperature. In some ways, factory water temp gauges just indicate cold/normal/hot.
@@BeamerFanaticsE39E90do you know if you can alter the ac settings somehow by the tripmeter button that your using in this video? My ac randomly quit working when trying to pull up my engine temps on the dash.
Hi. Very useful, thanks. Question, though: Will this coolant temperature display stay enabled (on) henceforth or do I have to do this every time? It would be very useful if it stayed on for good to take the place of the non-existent gauge.
You should still allow your car to warm up for a few minutes before you do any hard driving you can't tell that on a temp gauge as I've already explained some mild driving in the cold as it can take longer to warm up.
yes but yh8s depends how is bigger engine and if you drive car is more high temperatures. I'm have Bmw series 3 and temperatures is 106 in summer time inns normal engine don't show anyway errors and termostatem open 100 C 105 c
Hi there, thank you for this info. There is another video on youtube trying to show the same thing but your way of showing is very straight forward. I just bought a 335i M-sport wagon and i love it but one of the coolant reservoir lines blew, I fixed it but I am a little paranoid, not i can keep a close eye on the temp. You may have saved me A LOT of trouble mt friend!
Thank you for sharing the knowledge to check engine temperature readout, I have 330Xi 2006 E90, The amber engine light warning comes on, and the Fault memory Code is 002FOD, could you please explain or what it is pointing to check. Thank you
Hi Great videos! I clicked like ! I suspect there's something wrong with my thermostat and I have a slow leak in the radiator because I did get the warning that the engine is running hot and it feels hot in the cabin. What would you recommend? I'm not an auto Pro
My 2009 328i overheated yesterday in stop and go traffic. Then added antifreeze, it took a while for the engine to "suck" it up, one mechanic said it was the thermostat (possibly) another said nothing is wrong with it. The second mechanic let it run for 2 hours and it did not overheat. Do BMW's get low on antifreeze in general? Also, no leaks were found. Thank you.
Thanks for your videos, very informative, I have a 2007 335 i, while driving the Fahrenheit code goes off, starts yellow then goes to red, I immediately pull over, turn off car, take out key, wait 5 seconds, then put key back in and keep driving if it was water pump there's no way my car could keep driving, u think I have a bad censor? That's ridiculous who in the world has time to do that, my engine is always extemely hot. BMW was a better built vehicle before it was built in the USA.
+Maria Torres well this is water temperature, since it is pumping through the engine it gives you an idea of how hot everything is. generally you do not want the water to boil. 100 celcius is still driveable, but you are getting to the point where your car will start to overheat. please do not drive any further once it gets to 115 celcius, if you care about your car.
What in the hell! I have been driving my bmw diesel without knowing the normal engine operating temperature! If thats long it takes to know your engine temperature, the engine could have blown off before you even know the temperature! I find it weired! Is this their culture? Why only in BMW? Other German cars have temp gauges! Oh i remember the old beetle, does not have gasoline gauge!
Armandtirol Davila trust me, it will let you know when it gets too hot in two ways.Youll get a yellow warning telling you the coolant is too warm. Then you will get a secondary warning displaying red meaning your about to cause some serious damage.
Michael G lol. I haven't found the transmission temp yet, my main concern was the coolant, and still think it was a dumb move by bmw. My old e36 had one and it had far less technology it.
Devolution RC Some newer BMWs dont even have a dipstick. You cant check the oil, unless you have the car on, and the display in the center console is operational. What annoys me about not having a temp gauge (same will not having an oil pressure gauge either) is there is no indication of the progression of the problem. Like with the temp gauge you know where the needle usually sits at, so once it starts to creep up you can shut it down waayyy before damage is done. Mean while, a warning indicator tells you after your engine has already started running hot... you have a much smaller window to react. Seconds count at that point, and it doesn't take long to warp a head or blow a head gasket. Or like my friend with his Honda civic that didn't have an oil pressure gauge, just an idiot light. You know what that light came on to warn him he had low oil pressure due too low oil level? After the car already had an obvious rod knock... lol.
Yeah my stupid e90 doesn't have a dipstick ether. Some times I think I'd have been better off fixing the old e36 or getting a lexus. I have a small coolant leak atm so I just don't drive it :-( I'll have to save for a pressure test and then the repair. Kinda pissed off that the leak wasn't found when I had it serviced. I'd try working on it myself if 1, the car wasn't so low and 2, there wasn't so many plastic under trays.
Thanks. So there's No Dipstick, No Oil pressure gauge, No coolant temperature gauge, just a STUPID MPG gauge. No wonder way BMW motor keep blowing up. Ha! What a joke.
