My Dad left me his art supplies - all to do with oil painting but it was a lot! I had switched to watercolor when I had kids so….anyhoo… it’s always a joy to see his stuff around the studio. Really enjoyed this video- I also bought pastel and conté sets as Daniel Smith was closing.

Oh, how proud your mom must be! I just can't get enough of this seal! I watched this video once so far, but I will be back to rewatch it. I'm so interested in pastels...l was so surprised to see all of the colors your used so masterfully and how the alcohol wash served as your underpainting. Brilliant! I now want pastel pencils and some Pastelmat. I'm hoping some pastel classes will be coming soon!

Awesome drawing! I’ve never heard of using the alcohol with pastels. Thanks for the demo and sharing your mom’s pastels.
You should be proud - it came out beautifully. I’m sure Mom will love it. Hmm, looks like fun. The alcohol technique is super cool! I like the idea of pastel as the base layer and pencils on top. Something similar to a base of Copics.
That may work great too! I took a class in which watercolor and pastel were used together, so you might be seeing that sometime in the future. I didn’t like it back then, but maybe I will now.❤️

Oh, I watch Monet Cafe too. She did two wonderful tutorials about using isotropic alcohol to create the under paintings. I love this technique too. Your for sale is beautiful. I’m sure your mom absolutely loved this painting.
I have just started working with colored pencils but RUclips got me curious about pastel pencils. Now I know pastels are too messy for me... or maybe I'm too messy for them.Your skills are like magic. The seal looks great, thanks for the video!
Pastels just require some planning, to figure out how to avoid messes. The first couple attempts teach you a ton, LOL!

I love pastel pencils cos they allow for more control than sticks and so vibrant in colours. Your seal on rock is super gorgeous with all the different colours blended tog. I really must try this alcohol wash soon - can save lots of time!😊

You did your mom proud! I'm sure she's going to love this, especially knowing you used her supplies. Quick question - the triangular blender you use, it is foam and replaceable or can you wash it and reuse it? Seen you use it several times now, and it always looks so clean! Also had never heard of the alchohol blending method before. How neat that it turn the powder solid and not dusty! Always learn so much from you! TFS
Yes, you can wash them, but there’s also replacements. I just wish they didn’t pop off all the time, I keep flicking them all over the place.🤪
