  • Very old rusty lock restoration. I found this rusty padlock in the woods on the site of an old house. This type of padlock was used in the 17th and 18th centuries. The house was destroyed in the 18th century. The padlock was very rusty with a broken key. I decided to restore the padlock. I removed the rust and preserved the old iron. I hope you liked my restoration.

I wonder what treasures this lock protected. It must have had great value for the owner. I often wonder about the life of these items when they were new. Someone cared enough about something to protect it with this lock, I would love to know what it was

Designed for the town's Virgin's Chastity Belts by the town's Blacksmith.
Required constant in-shop adjustments by him for the girls.

Реставрація чудова… тільки я щось не зрозумів принцип роботи самого замка(

Ключ різьбовий, він вкручується і відтискає пружину, замок розмикається, коли ключ викрутити, то пружина повертається в своє положення, замок замикається.

Also, if you come across something like this again, and you find there are large-ish portions or holes that must be replaced, is there something like a red epoxy product you could use so that it’s more obvious what is new vs old. I love these vids, don’t misunderstand, but I like the museum pieces where it shows the restored pieces and shows the areas of decay that time has erased. This for example the repairs in red and the rest left cleaned but as found. No one is going to look at this lock in either case and think, “hey, I’m going to use this to lock a trailer to my truck”. I don’t know. I’m jabbering. Maybe if you find another axe with a section missing. Instead of adding a weld that just fades away make the restoration back to whole noticeable and nodding to time that goes by. Love to hear thoughts.
