    Hi! Thanks for sharing. Need clarification. I have the NB-13L Dummy Battery with cable attached and normal 5V powerbank. I would still need a step-down cable, right? If so, can you provide more details or link, please. I do not intend to connect it to the wall socket. Thank you,

      Hi, I use a Cygnett CP2504PBCHE 10,000mAh portable power bank (details here www.cygnett.com/products/10-000mah-portable-power-bank-in-red-1) the key consideration is the 2.4 amp output. It works very well for me. I hope it does for you too.

    Is the NB-13L power charger cable ACK-DC110+DR-110 still working properly? Is this safe for your camera?

    • @makingstuffeasy4827
      @makingstuffeasy4827  4 года назад

      Yes, it is still working for me. The particular unit I have has been reliable for me filming my RUclips videos. I have it plugged into a 2.4 Amp USB power pack with auto-off feature so the process is: 1. Turn on power pack; 2. Turn on camera; 3. Respond No, Yes to the two prompts re using battery without Canon label. It is a bit of a process but no worse than realising you’ve missed filming something because the battery’s limited capacity has been exhausted and waiting for the battery to recharge. You might be able to skip step 3 if you can source and afford the genuine Canon product ‘AC Adapter Kit ACK-DC110’. And you can skip step 1 if you’re plugged into a continuous power supply such as a 2.4 Amp mains-powered charger.

      @makingstuffeasy4827  4 года назад

      If you have a canon 400D you may be able to research a ACK-DC20 AC Adapter+NB-2L battery.
      Similarly, you might also consider researching quality generic batteries that may be cheaper list price to genuine Canon batteries, however there may be associated issues.
      Please note: consider this as information only. I have no experience with these options or this camera so you will need to form your own position on its suitability for your needs.
      Your mileage may vary

    hi. will go the camera in sleeping mode with this cable?

    • @makingstuffeasy4827
      @makingstuffeasy4827  2 года назад

      The device is just an alternate power source. If it’s power source is switched off or interrupted, the camera will stop functioning due to loss of power. The sleeping mode is a setting in the camera and therefore independent of the power source. The device when connected to a suitable power source, does provide extended power over a standard in-camera battery tho. The 4Gb file size limit still applies. Hope this answers your question.

      It’s been a couple of years since I bought my camera and SD card, and things move pretty fast in technology including, capacity, features and pricing. I found a couple of review sites from searching google including canoncamerarumors.com/best-memory-cards-for-canon-powershot-g7-x-mark-ii/. I recommend you research current options that suit your budget.

  • @ZacCraven

    You mentioned you got 120 mins of video recording on the original battery. Is that with the LCD screen turned off? I have a brand new generic battery, but with the screen on I only get about 20 mins of video before the battery runs out. (havent tried it with screen off yet). Does that sound right? I'm trying to work out if my camera or battery has a fault. I charge the battery, hardly use the camera then a week later the battery is nearly dead. My old original G7 was infinitely better in terms of battery life.

    • @makingstuffeasy4827
      @makingstuffeasy4827  4 года назад

      Hi, I can only refer to my own experience using the batteries and camera I have on hand.
      I measured the battery life for the genuine battery and a generic battery before creating and posting the video. I had the screen on when filming however I may have tweaked settings on how long the display is on, how long the camera is in standby mode before shutting down, etc.
      From my own research into batteries at the time, there seemed to be quite a bit of variability in generic batteries including some fakes, some that may be inherently poor quality and some that can be faulty.
      You say your battery isn’t holding charge for 7 days and can only get 20 mins recording from a full charge. This may be down to a fault in the battery, misrepresentation of the battery’s capacity, due to its age, exceeding the maximum number of recharge cycles, or a fault in your camera.
      I took the variability out of the equation by moving to the USB-powered battery replacement featured in the video and I no longer use my genuine or generic batteries. This works for my scenario.and was cheaper than buying a new genuine battery and, from recollection, not much more than buying a well rated generic battery.
      I wish I could give a more precise and useful answer but there are too many variables.

    • @ZacCraven
      @ZacCraven 4 года назад

      Thanks. I just tested again, i got 75mins of video before battery died. Lcd stays on while recording, i see no option to turn it off. When the video file becomes 4GB it cuts off, which is apx 25mins at fhd 25fps. I guess its poor but acceptable i may buy a 2nd generic battery though as backup.

    • @makingstuffeasy4827
      @makingstuffeasy4827  4 года назад

      Yes, the 4Gb file size limit comes into play. It had me concerned too, and applies in all cases including when using the USB-powered battery replacement. The loss of charge after 7 days appears worrisome tho. Perhaps try leaving the battery out of the camera for 7 days to see if it still loses its charge. If it does it suggests it’s the battery. If not, it may suggest an issue with the camera itself.

    Question... If you use the official AC Adaptor from Canon with that USB cable, would it register as authentic?

    • @davidmarriott5057
      @davidmarriott5057 5 лет назад +1

      I believe the answer is yes: it would register as authentic. The behaviour appears, in my experience, to be consistent with non-genuine NB-13L batteries in the G7X Mk II
      I understand, but cannot confirm, that canon uses proprietary components such as special integrated chips in the hardware, to detect whether a product is genuine or not. This is, of course not unique; Canon appear to do the same with printer cartridges and Apple has something similar with lightning cables for iPhones.
      The check I mention in the video occurs only once when the camera is turned on; it shouldn’t check again for that ‘session’ (in my experience)
      In my research I found there are a number of reports of fake ‘genuine’ Canon products (Canon has a team you can send pictures of ‘genuine ‘ but potentially suspect products to get their opinion).
      Also, regarding the genuine ACK-DC110, in at least one case in my research for this response, at least one online Canon store said it was out of stock.
      It would be great if you can share your experience with whatever you choose to proceed with.

    hi i’m planning to buy it but don’t know how long the battery life is do u know

    • @makingstuffeasy4827
      @makingstuffeasy4827  4 года назад

      From recollection.....
      The native Canon battery, at full charge lasted about 30-40 minutes. This will vary with how you use the camera.
      Generic batteries will vary more, based on their quality. They are likely to be cheaper than genuine Canon batteries.
      The external power pack, via the dummy unit., will last much longer (hours in my experience) subject to its Size and capacity.
      The same dummy unit will run continuously if connected to a mains powered USB charger.
      Remember the camera has a maximum file size so it will stop recording when that limit is reached.
      Technologies change so properties of more recent cameras, batteries and related components’ capabilities are likely to change too.

    Which is the best for hours of photos?

    • @makingstuffeasy4827
      @makingstuffeasy4827  3 года назад

      The external pack, in my experience, is best for hours of photos. Batteries are small and therefore have limited capacity that diminishes over time.
      Of course there are limits imposed including image resolution, SD card capacity, a 4Gb limit on file size within the camera and external power pack capacity and charge level.
      I hope this helps.

      I suggest you do a google search for ACK-DC110 and pick from there. I bought mine a couple of years ago and products may have evolved and suppliers changed. Of course, check compatibility with your specific camera model too.
      Other comments on this suggest how to set it up and use it.

    I thought u cant record while charging?

    • @makingstuffeasy4827
      @makingstuffeasy4827  4 года назад +1

      This USB device slots into the camera’s CB V BBC battery bay and looks like a battery, albeit with the cable extending from it to, say, a 2.4 Amp power source. It therefore replacess and acts as the battery with extended power duration. I think the filming-while-charging concept you are referring to is where the native NB-13L battery is installed and a micro USB cable is plugged into the camera body to recharge the battery.. I’ve never tried charging while filming so I can’t advise on that.
      I hope this helps.
