- After a bad cold I finally got back out on the water. Spent the afternoon chasing and catching beautiful native wild brook trout on one of Pennsylvania's many Class A trout streams in the wilds of the "Endless Mtns" in the north central part of the state.

That dark snake is actually a completely harmless black rat snake
Thank you for the identification, I didn't think it was a rattlesnake at first but then saw its tail "rattling" although it was silent and I looked up eastern timbersnake and saw they could have darker coloration but now that a couple people corrected me I understand that the "rattle" is more of an evolutionary mimic, pretty cool regardless but thanks!
@@deaddriftoutdoors2940 A lot of snakes have learned to mimic rattlers. It's more effective if they are in the forest as their tails hit leaves and vegetation that makes them sound more like a rattlesnake. I used to see black snakes do that all the time at the hibernaculum in Glastonbury, CT when we'd to count rattlesnakes.
Awesome video.
Snake pictured is a black rat snake. They are non-venomous and shake their tail to imitate rattlesnakes to scare off predators. So I guess it worked on you. 😉
Hahahaha it totally worked. I didn't think it was a rattlesnake but the shaky rattle like tail totally fooled me and I guess rattle snakes can be darker? but after your comment I see that it is a black rat snake lol. Thanks for the correction
I was thinking you might lose your net. I always keep mine on a lanyard. Thanks a million for taking us along again. Stay hooked! Bill
Yeah I do often use a lanyard cause I lose mine all the time haha.
Since I like spinning deer hair, the Adams Irresistible is one of my favorite flies for this kind of Brook Trout fishing, along with all the Wulff patterns. The Grey Wulff has been a particular favorite of mine for 60+ years. Nice stream. I was in Poe Valley this past May and June.
Nice. Yeah I love the wulffs.
Some of my favorite fishing. Small stream with a lightweight fly rod. Good stuff!
Thanks so much I appreciate it!
Nice video with the light on the moving water. You always show your appreciation for the stream beauty and it is appreciated!
Thanks so much I appreciate your comments as always!
That was so beautiful, I hope it made you feel better, it sure helped me after a long day at work, good therapy. Tight Lines!
It did the trick for me, finally got me back to feeling normal haha! Thanks
Another beautiful video. I really like your 2 camera setup. Please keep posting. Tight lines John
You got it! Thanks for the comment!

Enjoyed the video thanks John.
You are most welcome
Awesome video thanks for sharing and hope you get to feeling better
Thanks so much for the feedback I appreciate it!
Great photography, Enjoyed it.
Thanks so much I appreciate your comment!
Great video of takes. Makes them look like giants! Lots of fun.
I know I almost feel guilty when you see a great take and then I pull in a 4 incher haha but they are still awesome.
Love the videos! I just got 4 brookies, 3 browns, and a sucker on my usual trout stream in the "greater Binghamton area" on my centerpin in a few hours at first light over the weekend. Nothing over 13" though. The biggest brown and brookie were both right around 12"
Nice glad you had some success!
Another wonderful video Jon. Always nice to see you fishing some PA waters :)
I almost never disappointed when I head down there!
Great shot as always john. Amazing little stream and awesome brookies
I agree its an awesome little stream.
those tier'd falls at 13:49 are stream features that are just about as fun to find as the fish!
I agree they are such a gorgeous feature!
Beautiful work, John. Take care of yourself. We need many more adventures like this.
Thanks, you got it!
What a take @ 8:01...!!!!
Yeah there were some good ones!
That first Brookie really wanted that fly!!
Right ?
Beautiful video great looking stream
Thank you kindly I agree that it is a beautiful stream
Great work and editing. I'm guessing that these streams are spring fed.
I am curious about water temps in the middle of July.
It was 58 degrees
Watch those temps nice trout dude
It was ice cold, 58 degrees but thanks
@@deaddriftoutdoors2940 That makes me wonder if the brookie stream near me is cold, I live I. South central pa and i have a couple of small secret mountain freestone streams full of brookies. I haven’t been to one since April so it makes me think the stream might be cold if the one you fished was chilly
Nice you were able to get some brookie fishing in, must have been after some recent rain in that area? Around here its been so dry and the water levels so low that the brookies get spooked 30 ft before you can even reach the pool.
Yeah we have had pretty regular t storms that have kept levels decent.
No brook trout fishing in Southern PA and Western MD. Streams are extremely low and the temperatures high. Brookies are very stressed and catching one puts it in greater peril. Need rain badly.
We have gotten pretty good rains up in my area. The temp on this stream is not issue. It was 58 degrees
Debby took care of that!
What time do you usually go out now that it’s in the summer temps?
I try to go early in the day but these brook trout streams are ice cold all day.
pisses me off when I see people fry these gorgeous fish up in a pan
It depends on the fishery but in general I think habitat loss is their biggest enemy. I do notice on these roadside creeks that the bigger fish are gone in the early spring which is frustrating.
Nice video, my only concern is... What was the outside temp when you were fishing for those natives? Because if it was over 90F, you probably killed every one of those natives you caught due to temperature shock. I've been guilty of doing that to rainbow trout in Monocacy creek before. Dont fish for them in the heat, or if you take them out of the water, take them home for dinner because they will most likely die anyway. Which s what I ended up doing on Monocacy creek, never to be duplicated.
This was a month ago. Nightime temps were cool and the stream temp was 58 degrees in late morning, temps aren't an issue on this stream but thanks for your concern.
@@deaddriftoutdoors2940 Nice video, just didn't want to see a beautiful fish die due to someone's carelessness. You clearly are careful.
