It only takes a tiny bit of movement to make a difference. I hate flight simulators and have no good experience with them. Using a keyboard and mouse taught me to don't touch the controls if it's not necessary and adjust in small increments unless you want the aircraft to crash.

      Its not powered by hydraulics so it will have feedback. Some pilots of the raw feel but really just have to have a good firm grip. Watching where the wind blows helps to. From the video his airspeed is way to slow so he stalls and looses control.

    • @bigblue207
      @bigblue207 2 года назад +1

      Learning how to trim is pretty much one of the highest priorities a pilot has. Trimming is just the word for adjusting this little control that helps keep the plane stable. Some planes have a wheel, some a little joystick thing. Flying should never really require muscle. It takes too much brainpower away from setting courses and doing some mental math or keeping radio calls straight. But as easy as it sounds it’s pretty difficult to learn how to trim right. And when you don’t trim at all you get what happened in the video. People perceive a left turn, so they bank right, but they overshoot it and then they try correcting by overcompensating left. And then that changes the aerodynamics and everything and soon you’re just flailing around when literally all you have to do is keep the controls still and slow everything down. Everything happens a million times faster in a plane and people make really dumb mistakes they wouldn’t otherwise because it’s sensory overload if it’s new. It’s a lot of information to look at and process. Which is why computers fly no problemo. It’s just one of those things your brain takes over and it wants to do something wrong and it takes a lot of familiarity to be able to say “no, I can’t fight it, I just gotta hold it still”. Kind of like hydroplaning in a car and keeping the wheels pointed forward.

      That was the part of this story that just blew my mind. The man must have been struggling against some serious g-forces to make it into the pilot's seat, though to have quickly pulled back on the yoke he at least had a general idea about pitch control. Despite all my hours using Microsoft Flight Sim, I'd probably have failed to establish a radio link with ATC, so this guy overcame several critical and potentially deadly challenges in quick succession. A: “It is turning everywhere it wants to turn!”

    In a simulator, there’ s no feedback from the controls, so it’s harder to control.
    In real-life flying there’s always resistance from the control surfaces, which helps to control the plane.

    First off, the reporter was not taking it very serious at all in the simulator. I'm sure that he was doing it for dramatic effect because it is in no way hard, in the sim or real life, to get a feel for it just after a few mins to at least be able to keep the wings level, make basic turns, climb and descend. My 10 year old hopped on to one of the Redbird sims at my flight school and with no experience could figure it out pretty easily especially if someone like ATC is talking to him explaining stuff as they went. He wasn't listening to the instructor at all really. He would listen a lot more if it was a real situation. That all being said though the craziest thing in this video is , as a pilot myself, seeing the amount and size of those birds flying all around the whole airfield is quite alarming lol. I wonder how many bird strikes they get monthly and how often! Great job to Darren being able to keep his nerves in check enough to be able to listen well enough to get him and the instructor safely onto the ground! Good job as well to everyone else involved from ATC to the ground response crews!

When I started aircraft cost about $15-25K and rented for $30-50 and hr now you can add a zero to that with rentals about 5 times more since 1968 and 1991 and the present respectfully. Cars were all well under 3K in 69 except luxury cars like a 30k Rolls or 9-10K Cadillac with base price of 7K. Now houses have gone from 35k in 80's to 700k for some nice but cheaply made habitat for humanity models.

    Something I’ve figured is that if you’ve had experience playing a flight sim such as fsx, xplane, or even a combat sim such as DCS, you would have a good chance of safely landing basic small aircraft in an emergency without real world experience.
    Something I remember from the first time I flew an aircraft after playing these games in my childhood was my instructor commenting on how smooth my reactive input was on the controls; a trait most likely gained from the sim experience.

That isn't common knowledge it requires research. That also isn't "zero experience". I also find it interesting that he was able to move forward into the cockpit when the plane was descending at a rate of over 6375 ft per minute....which is an unbelievable rate of descent.

Most people fly small planes with two fingers on the yoke and a hand on the throttle. If you fly with small inputs it gets a lot easier and you have a lot more control than rotating fully.
