    $20K vs $500 and get within 1-2% on distance is quite good. I have the SC300 and it is great for practice dialing in distances with each club to really help. They just added spin and they are constantly adding updates so the distance gaps and Spin rates will get narrowed in and refined. For me, it's a great tool. Well worth the money.

    Very comprehensive and objective review. I actually bought the SC 300 couple of weeks ago and have used it couple of times already on the range. I use it also pre-tournament to check how my yardage is with different club on that day (in different conditions). I feel also that it does focus me on hitting specific shots which I would play on the course. It is helpful to figure out how you should launch the ball to get best distances - especially with woods. I take the numbers with a pinch of salt but it does give me a banchmark throughout the bag and I have good statistics which I can then work on and improve (swing speed, smash, ball speed). For me it is money well spend. 👍🏌️‍♂️

    One of the things I would say about the spin rate, launch angle, and apex is that as long as the readings are consistent within the device for a given club, one can learn about how effective different swings are in generating relative measures of those data. Obviously, the absolute measures are important for carry and total distance; however, it appears those are pretty reliable when measured against TrackMan. I just bought the SC300 and am anxious to get to the range and on the course to try it.

    I have been reading on the forums that those who have the sc300 agree in that the launch angles are higher than trackman.. however they were able to fix this by not opening the stand to it's fully open position thus helping to bring the launch angles down on the sc300. As the sc300 leverages the launch angles for it's distance calculation this could be throwing off the iron and wedge distance. Are you able to test this out and see if the numbers are more consistent between the 2 devices?

  • @todpharis4996
    @todpharis4996 5 лет назад +6

    Even though some of the “one off” distances are quite peculiar, avg out those over 10 shots and the discrepancy between the two devices almost disappears . You should have given us the 5 shot avgs between the two devices. I think it would be within 1-2%.

    Great Review. Looking at getting the SC300 so nice to know the issue's. I suppose we can't really expect it to be dead on with Trackman as there is €19500 difference

  • @MrGlk

    Great video - it seems the algorithms used are the main difference as the launch angles being off vs. close other distance. The good news is Sky Caddie can always update this with the firmware a la Trackman changing to match GCQuad for indoor calculations.

    Thanks for the reply and I agree that it would not change by 10 degrees but you do not give a fair analyst of the SC300 unless you enter all appropriate numbers and I must say judging it against the trackman is not fair as well. One product is for your average golfer and the other for the pros.

      In fact, the standard loft for the 7 iron in the SC300 is 30 deg. and my 7 iron has 32 deg. so the launch angle should have been lower than trackman?

    • @g4lamos
      @g4lamos 5 лет назад

      Jonathan Taylor there’s loft and then there’s dynamic loft, or delivered loft of club at impact, which this device doesn’t calculate. Also doesn’t measure angle of attack. The most it can calculate is ball speed and then interpolates it all from the settings the user puts in as far as club loft.

  • @peterhammer6915
    @peterhammer6915 5 лет назад +1

    Jonathan, thanks for the review. Probably the SC300 shows a little too high flight but I don't think your 154m 7-iron can be so low apex as the Trackman states. There the Trackman is off, 21 meters is super low. I would guess with your carry the Apex should be around 28-30 meters.

    Great content as usual, would be a little on the expensive side for me but for the cost of a brand new modern day driver it has got a market out there. Have you reviewed or seen the PIQ Mobitee product previously? I got one of these myself in February as I was interested in the fact that it could be used at the driving range and was pleased with the launch angle function and swing speed etc. The only bit it didn't do was tell me how far each shot went where the SC 300 does. Hope to see more great content throughout the season.

    excellent video, just looking up some reviews because i've seen some ads for the SC300. Your review has me sold on the thing. One thing i'm curious about, though --- if the expensive Trackman tracks ball flight from beginning to end, but the SC300 just checks it at impact and shortly afterward, the level position of the device itself could be critical (perhaps this one was standing a degree or two "uphill" and that might make a difference?). Anyway, i loved your delivery and honesty and all the details you spoke of. I'm a new subscriber!

    I bought a sc200 first time out at the range it called a distance when I had a practice seeing hitting the mat. Put the gadget away and sent it back for a refund. I cant understand how this one is spot on one shot then miles out on another when comparing to the track man. Shame as I would definitely purchase one if it was within a small difference of tolerance to the track man. Enjoyed the honest video by the way. 👍🏻

      Hi, even Trackman will miss a shot or give you a goofy reading from time to time. What the Swing caddie is trying to do is very demanding, especially when hitting from turf which often confuses the radar (flying debris). It is very good for the money and you can delete any shots from your stats that you know were bad reads.

  • @donaldwagner524
    @donaldwagner524 5 лет назад +2

    I saw that when you entered the club you did not enter the loft of the club in the SC300. Would that cause some of the differences in some of the numbers. Trackman should always be the most accurate.

      Jonathan Taylor Hi Jonathan. Most helpful review. Your work is first class! From my research a significantly cheaper option now appears to be the PRGR monitor (£199) You can tell I am from Scotland. To a higher handicapper this appears to offer the essentials-as well as giving club speed swinging without a ball. I saw one very favourable review of the PRGR by Mr Short Game on YT. Do you have any knowledge/experience of the PRGR which might help in my decision? Many thanks. Regards. Ian

    I was looking at this, but it's almost $1000 (around $850 to $900) in Australia, and I'm just not sure it's worth the money for an amateur. There seem to be some fairly large discrepancies in data between the two machines here and I'm not sure how having any of this data would improve anyone's game in the first place, maybe aside from giving you some distances (some of the other numbers may be important as well, but didn't seem to be accurate enough to mention). I think I'd be better off dropping money on a swing analyzer of some description which would be a quarter of the price and give me data that would be more relevant to game improvement.

    Thanks for the video. Do you ever do an actual tape or laser measurement to confirm both of these? I have a private range and I plan to have a friend stand out on the range and stand by each shot to compare with a laser measurement. It’s great to compare them with each other but even better to compare them with an actual measurement.

    Hi Jonathan. Great review thank you. On the back of seeing this I have also subscribed to your channel. I’m extremely interested in the SC300 but can you tell me if it has a separate “swing speed mode” like the new SC200+ please? I am currently using the SuperSpeed sticks and need a launch monitor that can also detect swing speed without hitting a ball as well as being a launch monitor for when hitting balls. I’d appreciate your response if you have the time.
    Thanks

  • @davidwang9579
    @davidwang9579 5 лет назад +1

    SC200 main issue is that each iron will require a different distance from ball position. If I am hitting a 7 iron, the SC200 might be accurate 7 feet behind me but as my clubs getting shorter and shorter to wedges, I have to move my SC200 closer to my ball position than I have for my 7 iron. Does SC300 have the same issue like what I have mentioned?

    All this thing measures is ball speed and interpolates all the other data from that relative to the user inputs. It’s not seeing strike, smash, aoa, launch angle, spin axis, etc, which is what will really tell you how you’re hitting and far more important than a made up distance.

    • @JonathanTaylor63
      @JonathanTaylor63  5 лет назад +2

      Even Trackman is calculating some of the data that it is giving. In the end, we need accurate distance, club head speed and ball speed readings irrespective of how they get them.

    SC is not doing customers favors by having an algorithm that is that far off what the benchmark systems players will use from coaches or fitters. It comes across as ham fisted coding to me.

      i think it’s great for the price, as an amateur golfer who wants to get an idea of their club gaps you can’t beat it, i’m not going to spend $18k for that. plus the track man is tacking the ball so it’s taking in the wind and sc300 is just monitoring it off the the first 50ish yards and calculating the distance which wind isn’t really a factor at low altitudes. you would just know that “ok my 7 iron is about 150 yards” then you make the right choice of club at the course. no average golfer is gonna consistently hit their clubs exactly the same, the consistency can be like +/- 10 yards so like 140-160 yards
