I beat Kingu without shortcuts and then I accidentally attached a bomb to my face

At 0:21 when he dropped the sticky bomb on himself he could have dropped his mattock and using the same button to grab he could have taken the sticky bomb off his head and thrown it to save himself

The stun timer apparently only runs when lying on the ground or when falling (negative vertical velocity).
He was doing neither of these things.
And the ball wasnt able to crush the jumper pad, so he was never able to break out of the status quo.
Dunno how he got stunned initially though, probably the ball bounce on the jumper pad.

I would say the most "learning moment" way I have died so far was when I tried to Yoshi jump off of a mount with the telipack on and teliported into the ceiling.
And the dumbest way I died is when I spontainiously turned into a ghost in the ice caves during online, nothing killed me, I just decided to no longer exist.
