You guys, and others like mygolfspy, deserve a lot of credit in getting rid of some the bs in the golf industry marketing. Your testing is holding the companies to account to deliver product that does what they say it does. This Mavrik release is another example of the improvement in the industry so keep up the good work guys. Thanks
I picked up a Mavrik Max a couple of months ago and it's the first driver that I've bought and used that I truly love. No regrets, no buyers remorse, no second guessing.
TXG -- Is perhaps the most fact based channel in cyberspace! We golf tech geeks need the best combination of left and right brain perspectives on the physics of golf technology and TXG is at the forefront of fact based / data based information and the most unbiased in their reviews. This review of what Callaway is bringing to driver face physics is very objective and worth exploring in more depth. Kudos to TXG !
Yes. I would love to see more retro comparisons, especially Mizuno, Cobra, and Cleveland, and other clubmakers that aren’t as pricey as the top drivers, but still deliver a good product. Also, I’m not one to change out my clubs every year or two, more like five or seven, so if I’m paying a lot to replace, I’d want a more realistic comparison.
I love your content and your knowledge base so much that I'm saving up to come get a full fitting from you guys. I'm making the 3.5 hour drive from the Detroit area just because I'm so impressed by you guys. I can't wait. I've been playing for 23 years and have never been fitted, I'm a pretty good player but so pumped for the process. Best channel on youtube for golf nerds like me.
I would LOVE to see Mavrik sub zero vs Taylormade SIM when i was fitted a few days ago the sim seemed to be more forgiving on off center hits but still go just as far as the Mavrik on center strikes.
Mattie’s swing changes certainly straightening out the ball flight, 300 on the fly down the middle. Does not really seem to matter what new piece of tech you put in his hands! 💥
Love the channel, content, and Matt's abilities! Suggestion, maybe when testing a new product you could have a couple of average guys (mid handicap) do a comparison with each other. Matt is so much better and his swing speed beyond most of us that it is hard to relate / compare. Just once in awhile a senior test would be great also. Thanks for all you do.
Great video, as always. I was hopeful about Epic V2.0 but just couldn't live with orange. Guess I'll go Epic flash on sale! Propose it's called Maverick Marmite from now on.
I love the idea of doing a comparison of callaway drivers from 4-5 years past. Hope you can start with the Big Bertha double black diamond from 16'. The heel and toe gravity core with the deep face was so forgiving for me that I have a hard time going back and forth between that and the original Epic. That would be great if you had that bc there's just not a lot of videos on the dbd 16'.
All 10.5 drivers as well. The way you see Matt swing you would think he would get away with 9 or 9.5 or was this all you guys have been sent so far. I was watching Matt's swing from about 1½years ago and it looks like he has taken about 3feet of the length of it. I'm currently trying to do the same to help with dispersion etc. But I've lost some distance trying this so need to find a power source. Looking forward to seeing what you do with these fits in future fittings
I wouldn’t consider buying it before I saw this video. I play Ts2 and I doubt anything will be much better then it for me. Yet this was a good thing to watch. It at least intrigued me
Hello Gents, great job as always! I agree that maybe a video session about the relationship between sound and how it affects feel would be great. After my own initial testing of the Mavrik, I would suggest that it has all the face benefits of Flash with the sound and feel of Rogue. That being said it sounds and feels better than Rogue working towards the G400. A constant of all the Jailbreak heads is the retention of ball speed off of low heel strikes. Great work as always keep them coming!
So glad you tested Sub Zero with the 14g weight back. I’ve been wondering how that configuration stacks up against the standard Mavrik. Great comparison!
These were in the local big box stores last Thursday, surprised this is the first video I’ve seen on them. IMO they look great from address but just ok from bottom.
New film coming out this year Top Gun: Maverick. I'm guessing Callaway are saying they are the Top Gun! They could have called the Subzero version IceMan 🤔
@@ItaliaJP400 Star Wars Rogue release date Dec 2016. Callaway Rogue release date Feb 2018 which is a fair size gap! The Nissan Rogue was released about the same time as the Callaway Rogue. I always thought it a lame name anyway as it was already a very well established Aldila shaft product. After all that 48% of people called it the Callaway Rouge! Which is a type of make up that old ladies apply to their wrinkly old faces to give themselves rosy cheeks. Cool!! 🤔 if you are reading this Callaway come to me if you have run out of good names.
Gentlemen, Putters, putters, please give us a putter review. Yes, I know new equipment is hitting the streets, but the putter is the most important club. Thank you for everything you do.
TXG, The minute you mentioned sound I became very intrigued. I wanted to share my two cents as I feel (pun intendended) very strongly about the sound/feel debate as someone who works with sound for a job. Here's a exerpt from a GolfWRX discussion I wrote up, thought you may appreciate another outlook. "I work with sound by trade, and in my opinion that is based upon my experiences with audio, and how it inter-twines with psychology, if something has more high frequencies, it is more clicky or tinny sounding. If it has more low frequencies than high, it is more muted. The problem with perception is to the untrained ear, more low frequency content coming from a club (more energy comes from low frequencies) can sometimes appear to me more poppy or louder; poppy can easily be translated to clicky, therefor creating a blur between the actual sound how it's perceived. The same goes for something with a lack of low frequencies coming from clubs - they can appear to be 'softer' because they literally sound softer as less low frequency energy reaches your ears when hitting them. (Remember that low frequencies carry more perceived 'weight' and thus more apparent when there is an abundance of them)."
I felt like Epic Flash was an unfinished product and I was getting a little frustrated with Callaway and their quality after the rogue, and then not lifting the embargo made it even more annoying... but we’ve just got the fitting components in the shop and I’ve got to say, first impressions are excellent, especially the game improvement irons, look forward to testing them with customers to see if they beat the success of the rogue
great video boys. i’ve had this in the bag since early december. sound/feel of the max is intoxicating outdoors. and the thing is insanely forgiving. for me, more so than my g400 max you guys recommended for me in orlando.
Really curious for further testing.. love the fact Callaway changed the sound. That put me of during fitting, this seems like a good excuse to go back to Callaway again next year. Most certainly curious about SIM comparison. Nice vid guys👌🏾💪🏾
Video idea - on the new driver tests, after looking at the pure strikes add maybe 3 each of high, low, heel and toe misses ( we know you have the skills Matt!). Seeing how they manage the misses is more important than the centre strikes imo.
Thank god the sound is better. Gonna make it a lot easier for me to sell this year. Had so many people like flash and hate the sound during fittings I have done
Hi Ian and Mattie Your recent equipment videos are brilliant but will cause “domestic grief” as I’m looking at changing my entire golf bag, yet again !! Anything for an extra 5 yards !!
Great test and love the past driver comparison with current models particularly if you choose a driver that was a very popular model or a big leap forward like M1/M2 but I have seen some of these in the past and the element that is rarely mentioned is ball. It would be great if you could compare those differences. Do the test with ball which would have been available at the time
Agreed. Play 13 Callaway clubs and the TM Udi because it's amazing for links where I play. TM make some amazing equipment as well. I've always thought of them as BMW and Mercedes.
Shows ya what the sound affects. He said it was the best 1 he hit. yet it was the shortest BUT with the loudest club. I have tbe epic flash i ordered in different color scheme. I went with that non sub zero with the atmos black and get some knuckleball rockets lol
TXG Tour Experience Golf Ian, take a look at this comparison test by Today’s Golfer Best of 2020: drivers. Very comprehensive driver test, Mavrik, Ping G410+, Mizuno ST200 and TM SIM MAX are the top 4 !! Ironically these are the top4 drivers i want to compare when i go for my custom fit later this spring. ! Amazing how strong the G410+ is and its nearly 1.5 years old while the other 3 are hot & new for 2020 ! ruclips.net/video/04Tp7fJIJrk/видео.html One element of the overall test is the “Drop off test” which consist of 3 pieces: 1. Drop off between the longest & shortest shots You should consider this 3 element “Drop off test” when you do the DRIVER BRACKET test for 2020!! Interesting point >>>. the “Stock” Ventus shaft performed poorly in the SIM MAX so the pro swapped it out with a Hazardous Smoke shaft and it drastically improved. I read and I’m sure you’re aware that TM’s stock Ventus shaft is a “Made for”, ,they now offer the real deal Ventus for a +$250 upgrade
First off, love the reviews you guys produce and I can't wait to see Matt test the Mizuno line up! I did notice Matt switched back to the Fujikura Pro and Pro v1x, any particular reason?
I’d take Matts “miss hits” any day of the week. Could we see a test where he strikes it a bit more towards the toe and heel (just like us mortals!) to really test the forgiveness of the new drivers. Cheers
Gentlemen, thanks for the great content. I’d be very interested to hear your continued commentary on perceived improvements these bigger OEM’s are claiming over previous models. I was listening to a podcast by Jason Hiland (sp?) of sub 70 golf talk about how as a company, they will not replace anything in their line up of offerings unless they see significant improvements in materials or technologies. They will only introduce something to “fill gaps” in player profiles if needed. He also mentioned that the bigger OEM’s need to do this 12-18 month cycle of new products due to high cost of operations (i.e. player sponsorships, travel costs for executives, etc.). If they didn’t do this, they wouldn’t survive. Your thoughts on this and is this model of business is hurting the industry. Seems like “direct to consumer” model companies (Ben Hogan, sub 70, etc.) have adopted a less aggressive product introduction mindset that many golfers are starting to be attracted to because they are high quality products, lower cost, and the consumer doesn’t always feel like their equipment is out of date after 12-18 months. Thanks again!
I should have added a disclaimer before. I currently play clubs by one of the big OEM's (all are at least three years/editions old except my 3-wood) so this is not a promotion for the "direct to consumer" companies. But as I watch Matt test clubs (or any of the other youtube guys like Crossfield, Shiels, etc.), nobody is hitting that much longer, straighter, or have better smash factors, even though company lines all make claims that this year's editions will get you more club head and ball speed or more forgiving than last year's models. Just curious as to how guys in the business feel about the trend of 12-16 month cycles.
Jason Pentico I mean my conversation was on here with him so I would have expected for him to have replied to you already if he was going to. If there were replies to others, why not you?
Would be great to see 10 years of Tech. I just changed my driver for first time in 10 years so would be interesting to see the actual gains versus the claims!
I agree fully...I am playing a 7 year old driver and it performs the same as one it replaced also 7 years older. Compared both on a simulator and very close in distance to the most recent stuff.
Hell Brandell Chamblee(yes he's still a tour pro) is playing a driver that has got to be 10 years old and he told me he tries all the new drivers every year and he hasn't found one better than what he already has in the bag. Or is it that he can't afford a new one, I think not.
I used to watch Rick Sheils and now I just bypass his videos and go straight to TXG videos. I think you guys could shorten them by about 5 mins and eliminate some of the fluff conversation but I thoroughly enjoy the vids! Intro could be a bit more brief and get straight into the hitting .. then wrap up the data a little quicker. Other than that I love the content!
Always loved Callaway, I have the Rogue draw and that fixed my slice more than I expected, The year before I was hitting 3 or 4 faiways per round and last year was 7 to 8 per round! ok the Mavrik, I sure love what it looks like, love the Orange! I may try and get to hit it at my golf store just to compare my Rogue draw to the standard Mavik! Love your videos Keep it up!!
Great videos guys. Love to see comparisons with older Callaway models and other new drivers. Lots of marketing claims but are they really true. It would be great to see performance comparisons but not just carry distance but dispersion. Are these new drivers getting minimal extra distance but tighter dispersion even with mis-hits? Are the differences in the drivers real or minimal? Some golfers will always like the latest but for $500+Cdn I'm not buying a new driver for a couple of yards of extra carry. Great work guys. Wish I had Matts swing - other than just in my dreams :)
A video where you record all the sounds of the available drivers for this year would be sweet. Then have a poll of which one we thought sounded best too
Thinking of demoing the Mavrik Sub zero from Global Golf. My current driver is the 2016 M1 430 with an aldila rogue silver 70 stiff shaft at 45 inches. Should I demo the Sub Zero with the aldila rogue white 130 msi stiff at 70 or 60 grams?
Sorry Brandon but I consider the FT3 to be the worst sounding driver I have had in my bag over many years. Maybe associated with that was my perception of lack of feel off the face. It was long when hit out of the middle but I couldn’t feel where I’d struck it. I guess beauty is in the ears of the beholder.
@@derekwhyle1884 I'm only saying that because it was such a different sound than any other driver on the market without being absurdly loud like the Hi-Bore. My brother has a custom one that I like to hit every once in a while and I don't mind the feel but I will always stick with my custom 905T. I wish companies would come out with some lower cc drivers in the 380-420cc range because all these new drivers feel like I'm waving around a balloon on the end of my club lol
Does efficiency decrease with speed? I swing around 105mph and see efficiency up around 1.5-1.55 on good strikes and notice values of 1.4 for Matt, are there any reasons for this?
Guys, what are your thoughts on the standard shaft options? I’m very much from the TXG school of thought and always get fit and go as exotic as needed(or not as the case may be) however they are advertising stock options of the rogue white 130 msi and the px riptide?? Are these real deal? If so the rogue white is a rare ltd edition shaft(or was) and retails at over £300? How have they done this? Or should I say have they done this or is it smoke and mirrors? Thanks and keep up the great work!
It sort of is. Rogue was developed to compliment the Epic and Mavrik has been developed to compliment with Epic Flash, not replace. So, like the Rogue, developed for speed and forgiveness.

Great video guys. Just got fitted for a full bag of Mavriks,

Easily my favorite golf channel! Would love to schedule a fitting. Great job guys!
Good hell the standard Mavrik sounds unbelievable 😍
Great video as always gents. I would LOVE to see the original EPIC vs MAVRK because I still use the original Epic and love it absolutely to death.
I’m using this with my statistics class, been going on about standard deviation and golf club testing!
Excited based on this first look and other details I’ve seen!
I would LOVE to see Mavrik sub zero vs Taylormade SIM when i was fitted a few days ago the sim seemed to be more forgiving on off center hits but still go just as far as the Mavrik on center strikes.

He could play golf with rock, paper or scissors and hit it 300 down the middle 😆
This is going to be a big year for them with the new line and ball. Great video guys!
I love the look and the idea behind Maverick. Looking forward to testing one out against the SIM

Jason Pentico - I was communicating extensively last night with Ian and he said he was going to respond to you. I don’t see anything yet. Lol
Jaime Gaskin I’m a pretty patient guy.
Jason Pentico I mean my conversation was on here with him so I would have expected for him to have replied to you already if he was going to. If there were replies to others, why not you?
It looks so much better than the initial pics
agreed
Yes please, original Epic SZ vs. Mavrik SZ.
Not sure if it's possible but I'd like to see you go back to the TM Superfast TP driver and compare with the SIM.
Loving the colour of these clubs ;)
Great 1st look!
When do we get the iron reviews?
At the end of the day I am awaiting a ten year driver review across all brands..
@@wesleyfontaine3438 I'd be interested in the results of that test too.
Interesting...cant wait for the fairways..🤔👍
Are you going to review the iron also if so see if you can get a mid and high handicap person to test the max irons. Keep up the great work
When you brought up sound all I could think was c'mon Callaway bring back the FT-3 sound, who else is with me?!?!
Question for you guys... why do you use the Fuji 2.0 TS for all the driver test when Matt games the Ventus black?
I'm just waiting for someone to make one that literally looks like robocop! Great vid boys!
I loved hearing people hit the M5/6 with the really muted sound. Is the SIM similar?
Crazy how far he can hit with such a short backswing and no wrist hinge- that’s a strong dude
Great review! Now where can I buy or get his swing, If I had a swing that solid and fast I could hit any driver good. Keep up the great work.....
For weekend warrior, Is Mavrick WORTH buying as an upgrading from Flash or M5/M6? Thanks for the video
depends on the player, really something that needs to be tested in a fitting
Mavrik launch...great name...timing! Maverick back soon in TG movie....TxG?
Does efficiency decrease with speed? I swing around 105mph and see efficiency up around 1.5-1.55 on good strikes and notice values of 1.4 for Matt, are there any reasons for this?
He’s using quad not trackman
@@Stewwwwww So which is more accurate, Trackman or GC Quad?
Caolan McLaughlin they are both as accurate as each other. Quad measures clubface and trackman measure centredness of mass.
Rogue vs standard Mavrik plz
do you think you can do a comparison between the original Epic subzero and the mavrik Epic subzero. This would be interesting.
we're going to try to do that for sure
Also, would love to see a battle versus retro drivers, that would be cool!
Golf Junky d
I thought the Mavrick was replacing the Rogue. That's what I get for thinking! :)
It sort of is. Rogue was developed to compliment the Epic and Mavrik has been developed to compliment with Epic Flash, not replace. So, like the Rogue, developed for speed and forgiveness.
@@cren1676 Thanks for your reply!
Can’t wait to see dialed in and compared to sim
