I have lived in Bangkok for 13 years in 4 different areas and of those places you mention I would choose Asoke. If your coming on a holiday especially as it has the BTS and MRT to get you almost anywhere you would want to go. However there are other places to live long term which is better like where I live. Its only 15 minutes by train from Asoke but the cost of living is way cheaper. The locals are old, friendly and have been living in the area all their life. A pint of beer will cost you 85 baht. Food is crazy cheap. Live music venues. Great bars. Renting a 45 sqm condo will cost you 10k a month. Where is it you ask? Haha. I want it to stay just the way it is.
I agree. Asok is always great for a newcomer…then it’s nicer to migrate a bit further! Followed the same path here haha
10,000 baht, I hope!!
Great video! Anywhere in Bangkok that has a bit more green space that I could walk my dog and enjoy some trees etc?
What area are you in please ?
As Thai, I’m very impressed you know Bangkok very well! I can say that his info is very accurate.
Thank you for the kind words!
I was born in Bangkok outer area. I really never knew areas outside my home location. 😅😁🤭
Cal you did a great job! Very informative! 👍🙏😍
Thank you for the kind words! It’s a huge city. I love how many different neighborhoods there are 😊🙏
When coming to Bangkok I always stay at one of the little guesthouses in Dusit (Tavee Guest House, Sri-Ayuttaya GH etc.). Short walk to the river, a Wat nearby as well as a market. Pretty quiet, and cheap as well. Hasn't changed much since the early 90s.
Sounds like a great place! Some areas have remained hidden gems. Thanks for the input!
I know all these areas except Thonburi. I think you break it down well. As a first time tourist with some money I think I would choose Asok or the Riverside. After a few visits would shit to Thong Lor as it is still fancy but it is interesting to hang out in a less tourist-centered place. For a western backpacker, Khao San. I wouldn't recommend Rama 9. It's very very busy and traffic heavy, and generally low on charm.
That's a good plan and good advice. I agree. Cheers!
Thanks to the old Metro route map, the new Metro route map has 11 routes. and And the MRT blue line is already circle line.😊
Ah yes you are correct 😅 I didn’t pay close enough attention to the map…funny because I actually lived near Bangyi Kahn for 6 months on the newer addition to the MRT for the circle line 😂 thank you for the input!
Good content as usual, Cal. I really like the area between Asok and Phrom Phong. With all the shopping and transportation available, it is easy to get to just about anything you need. As a techie, having Fortune Town only a couple of stops from Asok is the icing on the cake.
Thank you! I agree. This is a great area…love all the parks and green spaces as well.
@@thebangkokguide Please would you do something similar for Hua Hin?
Want a good clean room, safe, with a bar and restaurant with both Thai and American food? One of my favorites is Bourbon Street. Give it a try, I think you will be very satisfied.
Thanks for the recommendation! Cheers
Hotel rooms in Thailand are very clean, better than those in Japan, South Korea and Singapore
The hotel rooms are definitely nice in Thailand!
Awesome video thanks. Both times in Bangkok I stayed in the sukhumvit area. I'll be coming back to Bangkok for a year as soon as possible and I plan on living Riverside. I figure I can get to sukhumvit easy enough for nightlife and a bar that I like and have the beauty and accessibility of Riverside. But your video has opened up my eyes to even more about Bangkok which I will be happy to explore over the next year.
It's such a wonderful City. And crazy too, and I love that.
I love the riverside area. Lived in Thonburi right near BTS krungthonburi for 3 years. One of the nicest most relaxed areas in the city. Thank you for the kind words!
Cal this probably one of your best location videos I've seen on your channel. Moving to BKK next year because of company relocation and All of your vids including renting condos has been AWESOME!.
Thank you for the kind words! I’m glad it was helpful! I’ll be making an updated version about locations for living in Thailand soon which covers some more residential areas as well. Cheers!
I really enjoyed this video Cal , so informative and the map locations were very well done , I definitely could lost in BKK and be happy, stay safe mate cheers!
Thank you for the kind words! It’s much appreciated. I love wandering around and getting lost in Bangkok 😅
Enjoy your informative vlogs.👍
Thank you for the kind words!
It depends on the location of the places you want to visit. It always the best if you stay near the main transportation like MRT or BTS.
The new locations are near the yellow and purple lines which may far from the central of Bangkok, though there are many interesting areas you can visit and less scammers.
If you have a plan to travel to other provinces or other countries, the red line which connected to Donmuang airport may be another option.
Most of the malls and markets open until 9 or 10 PM and some open after midnight. (Though you may find it harder to travel without the metros).
Good advice! Thank you for the input!
This is a very timely video for me as I will be landing in Bangkok in eleven days and I am still having a tough time deciding which area to book accommodations. Thanks for the info.
Are you sure? Now it's summer in Thailand. 😅🥵🤭
I’m glad it was helpful and thank you for the kind words! Safe travels!
As he says in the video it really depends on what you're looking for. Sukumvitt those where I stayed both times in Bangkok and I love it there. The first time I stayed at the solitaire Bangkok 11. The 2nd time the Miami hotel. The Solitaire was definitely more upscale but the Miami was good value. Either way enjoy your stay it's a great place.
I was also in Hua Hin and Sam Roi Yot and Jomtien Beach. All were cool for different reasons. When I come back to retire and live it will be Bangkok for the first year. I'll choose to live in the Riverside area but party and hang out in Sukumvitt.
Thanks for another good video. I’ve really enjoyed staying in Saphan Taksin over the years. I like that it hasn’t changed much and location is very convenient. Trying Thong Lo at the moment and so far so good. Moving to Ekkamai later on to see what that’s like. I didn’t know much about Rama 9 so thank you for mentioning it. I’ve also read somewhere that Bang Na is an up and coming area so I might explore that too.
I totally agree that access to public transport is a must in Bkk. More than 10 minutes walk from a bts station in this heat is a deal breaker lol
Thanks again and all the best.
Thanks for the comment and kind words! Saphan Taksin is a great area. Really love Thonburi across the bridge as well. It’s barely changed in a decade since I first lived there… it’s probably the most relaxed and peaceful area in Bangkok. I stayed in Thonglor for a few months. Definitely a nice area but I wanted a little more mall a/c 😅 I like Rama 9 but it can get a little busy. It probably gets divided opinions from expats! Haven’t spent much time in Bangna. Shall check it out! Thanks for the input!
This video definitely deserves more likes!
Thank you for the kind words!
Great video. Ive been to Thailand 3 times and best neighborhoods for me were Rama 9 and Lat Phrao
I live in Rama 9. Great area!
Khaosan Rd was famous long before the movie The Beach. Backpackers started going there in the 1970’s……hell I landed there in 1993 for the first time and it was absolute chaos back then.
You are definitely correct. I guess that I meant it entertained a kindof mainstream popularization. Was it it Silom back then?
Awesome video. Super helpful. my 2 cent: First timer, stay close to the river cuz all main sightseeing attractions are close to the water. Returning bkk addicts: stay close to Asoke/Siam. JIMHO: Siam paragon food court is the best in the world. Pier 21 is 2nd. but Siam paragon blows pier 21 out of the water. Judd fare is a tourist trap.
Staying near the river is definitely nice for an introduction to the city as well.. the only challenge is that river ferries don’t operate very late. So it can be a bit more challenging getting around at night. Paragon def has a nice food court too, and Jodd Fair is def a tourist zone at this point. Cheers!
Will be there in 2 days from PHUKET, this is a needed guide. I’ll be in Sukhumvit! It will be fun 🎉
Sounds great! Enjoy the trip!
Video was perfect timing! Heading BKK next week!
I'm glad it was helpful! Cheers

this video should be the official guide for bangkok
great job bro
Thanks for the kind words! Much appreciated!
แถวจรัญสนิทวงศ์ ก็สวยนะคับนถไม่ค่อยติดด้วย แล้วก็เส้นราชพฤกษ์ 🎉
It’s a nice area too! I agree! I lived there for 6 months ☺️
Bangkok so beautiful city 😮🤗🙂👍🎉🎊
Very! ☺️
Thank you for this fun video. I enjoy it very much! It transported me to a warmer place in my mind. Viewer from Alaska!
Thank you for the kind words! I’m from Canada so I know how Alaska must be feeling! Cheers
Great info. Thanks.
Thanks for the kind words! Cheers!
Great video. Thank you!
Cheers!
nice video! too many choices lol I think if someone has a trip planned, ideally a few nights in a few different spots you mentioned. cheers !
Definitely. Totally agree! Cheers!
I love your videos they make me wanna get on a plane to BKK
It’s a good idea 😅
Excellent tour! Many thanks!
Thank you for the kind words!
Great video! Thanks for all the valuable information.
Thanks for the kind words!
I’ve gravitated to On Nut,Phra Khanong ,Ekkamai, and Phrom Prong. But I’m going to check out Thong Lo.Thanks for the lead.
All great areas as well. Almost added Onnut-Phra Khanong to the list, but it started getting too residential. I'll cover the more residential areas in another video. Cheers!
@@thebangkokguide For a short time visitor my favorite BTS areas wouldn’t be too appealing. Not much night life. But as a slow and solo traveler there is a lot of services in this area and very low costs.
I agree. These are great longer term areas though…after spending a while in busy touristy areas it’s much nicer to stay in the more relaxed and authentic residential areas.
@@thebangkokguidewhere would you recommend for a solo male traveller looking to stay for 6-12 months in BKK?
Cal, u are awesome! Very informative

This is how I ended up here for 8 years now lol. Enjoy!
I came back a couple weeks ago and can't wait to go back. Just got to sell a few things first.

Thank you for the kind words!
Great video, Cal my pal. 🎉
I’ve been in pattaya for about 6 weeks now and I’m finally doing a weekend trip to Bangkok on March 29th. I’ll definitely be having this video playing on repeat as I plan my weekend.
Hope your enjoying pattaya! Safe travels!
Thank you suggesting attraction
Thank you for the kind words!
Would be cool to hear about actual rental prices
I'll cover that in another upcoming video. Cheers!
Wake up babe Cal just posted another banger
Thank you for the kind words! 🙏
You videos are sooo informative! Thank you.
We will be traveling to Thailand and will be bringing our small Chihuahua. I have not been able to find a pet friendly hotel or any type of pet friendly property. Can you help with this?
We will be there in July 😊
Thanks for the kind words. For condos, there are plenty of pet friendly ones. Normally it is best to ask an agent when you are looking after you arrive in Thailand. And for the hotel, I would recommend checking Booking.com as they have a pet friendly hotel section. Here is the link: www.booking.com/pets/city/th/bangkok.html?keep_landing=1&sid=5fb115421024448d78054d7adad6741e&aid=318615;label=Low_CPA_English_EN_TH_21461894665-_*wrNf_0EmJ2E6HXFRdRXgSM640874783491:pl:ta:p1:p2:ac:ap:neg:fi:tidsa-55482331735:lp1012728:li:dem:dm:ag21461894665:cmp340122385;ws=&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD_Ls1JwsKdunq0Ap3KNI_QjKK0oB&gclid=Cj0KCQjwlN6wBhCcARIsAKZvD5iblYwiUsKxEqNEsQVW3Ud6OT15blD2yKRAPDst__kTl8gb2bckKngaAuSQEALw_wcB
Bangkok is City of Angel
Beautiful city!
Hello cal 🙆♂️
Hello 👋
Is the Jodd Market staying? I read somewhere it was being redeveloped.
That's correct. It's moving up the street...it will be at the next MRT stop: Thailand Cultural Center.
Wow Cal
Currently staying in Phrom Phong 1st time totally different vibe/area
I think you covered everywhere we have been during the last 4yrs we have visited Bangkok
1st year done 2 days in Khaosan Rd then on to Siam
There is Always something new and exciting to do
It’s a great location
Thanks for the kind words. I was hoping to cover most of the interesting areas. I love the range of different experiences on offer. Phrom Phong has become really nice in the last few years. Enjoy!
How long would you say a couple would need, to see all of what Bangkok has to offer, without rushing?
Haha I’ve been here for 8 years and still haven’t seen everything. But in terms of travel, you could easily spend a couple of weeks here is you want to get out and explore. There is plenty to do!
westin pool party is closed?
I believe it is still running... I stopped by a month ago.
Bangkok is similar to Bekasi, part of Jakarta districts
I must visit! Thank you for the comment!
What apps are you using for hotels Find those prices
Agoda mostly…occasionally booking.com but I find Agoda has lower prices and deals.
What do you mean the vendors at Terminal 21 dont pay rent?
They are subsidized by the owner of the mall to attract more customers. I believe they pay a commission to the owners rather than actual rent.
It's only for the restaurants in the food court. Not all of the vendors and shops.
Hvordan kan det være du laver overskriften dansk og så snakker engelsk
Mvh
You can add translated subtitles and title. Did you use subtitles?
สวัสดีครับ
👋🙏
In other words, the whole city is a good place to stay. *Sigh*
There are lots of great areas. The perfect area is just different for each person because people want to see and do different things on their trips.
Can you also be a tour Guide ?
I haven’t done any of this kind of work before!
Soi 4😂
Haha yeah it’s a good spot too 😅
Hello; bro,, your Oke Anton Madura Indonesian bro,, So; In, your Oke Jakarta Bali So, Okey ,🤗😍🙏✌️👍👍💞🇲🇨
Thank you! 🙏
The one with the least face masks is the best area
I think that's probably the Asok area. They are definitely coming off slowly over here!
Ummmm ... Authentic and instagrammable ...
Fair point 😂
I came to Thailand in 1967 and acummulated over 25 years and can only say you know nothing 😢
I mean… I guess. Thanks for commenting!
How about you impart your decades of wisdom, instead of just criticizing someone?
hello Cal is there a bitcoin culture in Bangkok that you know of ?
Yeah it’s quite popular…a lot of people in crypto live here at list part time
Great thx Cal jus want to meet likeminded people once I move there !@@thebangkokguide
@@marcinliandzis1827 all good. I’m involved in the culture myself along with many friends. Probably one of the #1 destinations for crypto folks due to favorable tax rules…although that may change with new tax rule enforcement.
Perhaps we should have a drink once I get there , hoping to move no later then next spring , things are really getting out of hand in the western world and sad to say Canada is leading the way !!
I moved from Woodstock Ont . To Kelowna BC back in 2008 and love ti here but even this can't stopme from leaving @@thebangkokguide
Sure. Give me a heads up! I’ve considered moving back a couple of times but everyone says not to 😅
