Ferreting in a Suffolk paddock

  • At this time of year, the gardens and paddocks require that extra piece of attention. A few rabbits on these environments amplify their presence, as they are always in view and their handy work presents not just monetary damage but emotional distress as well. Tainted grass, shrubs eaten, borders undermined, not to mention the amount of scrapes and holes that are a danger to man, women and beast. On this particular days ferreting Simon was using Millie, his aging lurcher amongst the rabbits in a Suffolk paddock. Millie’s prime ferreting days may be over but she is still strong enough in mind and body to fulfill the odd day out ferreting on a warren when the need arises. Is speed everything? Not necessarily so as no rabbits escaped the experienced dog, ferret and net combination that operates in complete silence. Millie's body may be old but her ferreting mind is still as sharp as ever. www.pakefieldferrets.co.uk

Hi Simon that was a very good video, I have been ferreting for close to 30 years and only started using quick set long and stop nets about 6 years ago and do not know how I manged without them they just make life a lot easier.

    Nice video.
After having Lurchers for over 20 years I'm losing my love for rabbiting. The humble bunny i'v enjoyed seeing and trying to catch for so many frostie morning and windy nights seem to be in a steep decline mainly due to unsympathetic farming methods to all wildlife and Im reluctant to hasten it further iv breed my next dog for different quarry an all-round lurcher .

No vibrations then as you and the dog running over the top of the ground then 🤔🤔🙄🙄

The dog seems like overkill. The fence already gets them. Ifs more fun to watch without the fence.
